So after a quiet few rounds AJ drops Ruiz then goes in to finish, Ruiz keeps calm under fire and rocks his world with a left hook. How does a panic attack or getting dropped in sparring cause this? People are talking absolute nonsense. AJ then struggles to recover and Ruiz is reading his attacks like a book and making him pay via combinations. AJ was absolutely fine before that counter hook in round 3, actually that assault that AJ landed on Ruiz in round 3 was sharp as hell. No panic attacks, no conspiracies and no excuses. AJ has flaws and Ruiz exploited them on Saturday.
On the money, other than it was a quiet two (not a few) rounds.
The Fat King of Boxing did what AJ could not do:
1. Recover from a kill shot.
2. Keep his wits about him and stay patient.
3. Finish.
AJ can retool, stay behind the jab all night, etc., in the rematch. He still has to deal with TFKoB’s footwork, bodywork, power, quick hands, and ATG beard.

A few cannot be one but can be as low as two

Not to mention Ruiz's heart. He's not going to quit in a corner, he'll need to be battered until the ref stops it.

He holds the cards though. Without him fighting, AJ will be struggling to regain the respect and adulation he held and obviously he sure as sh1t won't be getting all those belts back. Ruiz could swerve a rematch, he may get stripped, he may get sued but ya know, he will do fine financially. I doubt they sue him for anything like the amount he will earn in fights.
Make no mistake, to Joe Blow, AJ needs to right this wrong and beating someone for another vacant belt will not cut it.
If I was writing AJs contracts I would stipulate the financial splits in any rematch. Ruiz can demand what he likes but the fight will only generate so much money, if he refuses to fight AJ then he will get stripped dropping Ruiz's financial 'pull' overnight.

I agree and my post did not say anything which disagrees with that.

I'd be curious to see if Ruiz could absorb Wilders punches in the same way. I have a feeling he wouldn't be able to.

I have a feeling that whilst Hearn was wise enough to put a rematch clause in the contract, he possibly may have been complacent in not putting in a clause that said where the rematch should take place, or the splits, etc.
With Haymon representing Ruiz, you know he's not going to make it easy in the negotiations.

they probably already had a rematch clause template they work with, it wouldnt have taken much effort to make a tight clause

everyone already knows wilder hits harder when he lands
If I was going to make a comparison between Wilder and Joshua in terms of punching power; id compare it to the light heavyweight division when it was Kovalev and Stevenson. For me Joshua has that clubbing type of power like Kovalev, whereas Wilder's punching power is more akin to Stevensons. That fast twitch muscle fibre power, where one punch can completely switch the other guys lights out.

Yeah but it could be very basic. It might not be particularly detailed, because Hearn wasn't overly concerned. Aslong as there's a rematch clause there, that's the most important thing.

Ortiz was 7m 1st fight.....10m rematch and 1.5m for extra fight.
Can’t see Ruiz knocking back something similar when he got offered it.

It's not so much the money, Ruiz just might not want to have the return in the UK. He's already said he'd like it in LA or Mexico. So it's gonna be interesting how it all plays out.

im pretty much certain ruiz will say stuff like that for a bit, and then it will end up being in the uk
fighters always say this or that at first.
and no chance this happens in mexico, 0

Oh I definitely don't see it happening in Mexico either, but LA wouldn't shock me.

How does it work if a fighter doesn't agree to the rematch they signed? Do they just get sued or does Ruiz get stripped aswell? How many fights would it take for Aj to get to mandatory surely he'd still be rated by the organisations so could be mandatory after a fight or two

Whilst $10m sounds a lot of money, Atlas said he’d be getting short changed, said Douglas got $20m almost 30 years ago for his first defence against Holy.

So am I understand that there WAS a rematch clause, but there was no stipulation as to where this rematch would take place or any of that? So they still gotta iron out the money and locale details? That's gonna be interesting because I'm sure Ruiz was given a low ball offer for a Heavyweight title fight on short notice, and now he holds all the cards. He's definitely gonna be using this to squeeze something out of the situation either the location he wants or a sh*t load of money if they insist on the U.K.
Either way he comes out smelling like a rose.
Especially if he wins the rematch, but honestly even if he doesn't. He stands to make more off of this rematch than he ever would've made in his whole Boxing career combined without pulling this upset. It's the stuff dreams are made of.

There was way more money going around in boxing then.

Tyson was one of the most famous men on earth. There's no comparison between what Douglas did and what Ruiz did in terms of global awareness. Ruiz result is more similar in stature to Rahman/Lewis.
