Yeah Euro level a step too far but British and Commonwealth champ at 2 weights is pretty good going.
Shared a changing room with him for one of his Brit defenses, at the Marriott I think, remember him as a nice guy

I notice Keith Holmes took the unbeaten records of Richie Woodhall and Robert McCracken on stoppages. No one ever mentions Holmes these days but I bet you he'd have been top 5-6 MW in today's division.

Quite a few of Bernard Hopkins middle weight opponents seemed to be very diminished afterwards. Not necessarily from any sort of physical beating but in the eyes of the boxing community. Keith Holmes was more of a technical boxer, who didn’t have the strength and power to make a fresh start at super middle.

Danish Promoter Mogens Palle used British fighters extensively on his cards in the 1970s and '80s. His fighter Jorgen Hansen beat 19 British opponents.

Its funny that after what Matlala did he was considered a soft defense
IIRC he and McCauley were mates and sparring partners, and Dave didn't think it was an easy touch

Amazingly he had a terrible time on these shores (losing three of four) but he was ancient when he dropped decisions to Terry Downes and Coventry brawler Mick Leahy (who looked lucky), and Nigeria's Johnny Angel gave him a belting for three rounds before the 43-year-old Robinson asserted himself and won in the sixth in London in 1964.

I’d imagine top 3. He’s certainly on a par with Demetrius Andrade. They are probably actually quite similar fighters.

I think it’s a bit of a tragedy that fighters like David Tetteh got sent off to obscurity after a good bit of Brit Bashing. He really leathered Billy Schwer.

i never actually saw Romanov at the time I just remember hearing he absolutely sliced the likes of Thaxton and Vanzie apart
