6 people thought Theophane would win by decision..
Re: Sam Eggington vs. Ashley Theophane - 11 December 2020
know what you mean you could bash hall all night doubt he would go down, but mckenna is going places looks better a ko on the record
Re: Sam Eggington vs. Ashley Theophane - 11 December 2020
I was looking forward to seeing Scott Welch's son's debut but they ran through the rest of the card giving each fight maybe a minute each.
You can't knock Channel 5 for picking up the baton for terrestrial tv boxing but why not show the undercard on Youtube?

Hall was supposed to have said that he was pissed off because he got a win and a draw in something like 20 fights last year because the win and the draw made promoters suspicious of him (because he is hired as a durable loser).

If Theophane calls it a day it’s been a good career.
Whatever he decides he’s one of my favourites.

Good performance by Eggington last night although this stationary version of Theophane was tailor made for him.
The bulk of the undercard is, in general, one of my big issues with boxing. The McKennas were good amateurs and have had 10 and 5 wins respectively. Why are they fighting opponents who have a combined 7 wins in almost 150 fights? Surely it would be a better for a 10-0 fighter to fight someone who’s trying to win rather than what we saw last night?!

That’s how it is. My Mrs doesn’t even come to small hall shows now because she says it boring. She didn’t even watch BJS-Murray because she knew the score.....maverick23 wrote: ↑12 Dec 2020, 04:10 Good performance by Eggington last night although this stationary version of Theophane was tailor made for him.

It’s how it is on certain shows. There have been more TV shows since Covid that have had more competitive undercard fights. I don’t even mind it particularly if it’s a case of we’re 95% sure of the winner but at least the fight’s competitive because the other fighter is trying to win.mickey1975 wrote: ↑12 Dec 2020, 04:46That’s how it is. I don’t blame your Mrs. A good chunk of the small hall shows I’ve been to haven’t had one competitive fight.
I much prefer a good boxing matchup vs. an MMA fight but at least the vast bulk of MMA I’ve seen on TV or live has involved 2 fighters trying to win.

It’s worse when you can see the journeyman can really fight if he wants to. It’s as good as being corrupt.
Re: Sam Eggington vs. Ashley Theophane - 11 December 2020
Decent little win for Eggington. Theophane simply cant compete at this level at light middle weight.
For me into was refreshing to see a ten rounder with no meaningless title
Feels honest and the viewer isn't paying hefty subscriptions to watch on Channel 5.
Ashley's had an excellent career and far exceeded what I thought he would achieve when I saw his 2nd pro fight....Southern Area title at best, but he went much, much further.
What a shame they didn't show the Midlands area title fight properly
That was probably the fight of the night.
Someone at Channel 5 doesn't know what their doing and how to get the most out of the card for the viewer
They've had a few goes at this now and keeping selling everyone short

Yep it is. Often see some journeyman give away most of the rounds and then occasionally make the last round competitive. Really frustrates me.mickey1975 wrote: ↑12 Dec 2020, 09:25 It’s worse when you can see the journeyman can really fight if he wants to. It’s as good as being corrupt.
It’s one of my big bugbears of boxing. People say it helps the fighters go rounds but I don’t think it proves much - it shows they can rounds against someone not offering a threat. It’s very different going rounds in a competitive fight.
