Fury won two very dominant but fairly careful and boring victories over Johnson and Chisora before Wlad. He lost his head against Cunningham without his uncle in the corner, but that was the exception.

I think him vs Haye at that point would have been a lot of fainting from both, Haye waiting for an opening and Fury not giving him a look in.
I've never watched either since but as I recall Fury threw plenty of leather at Johnson who was still useful and did the same thing he did vs Vitali: fight extremely defensively. In fact, I thought Fury did a better job on Kingkin than Vitali, as KJ opened up a cut on Vitali. Fury didn't do his jerky feint thing against Chisora, who just plodded forward and ate jabs. Haye made Chisora miss much more than Usyk and also knocked him out. Haye's head movement against prime Klitschko, who's jab was better than Fury's at that point, was excellent and so he would have had more opportunity to land rather than be shut out like Dereck, who was never anywhere near as good as Haye. It would have made for a more competitive fight.

It never happened but you've got two of the best British heavyweights of the past ten years who were going to fight so why would you go "oh yeah I ran a stimulation in my imagination and it was absolute dogshit: they just stared at each other and barely threw a punch: it was a draw but neither deserved to win. I hated it"?

You miserable git!
LOL, I was more responding to you point about there being no indication he'd be in chess match mode. I seems like, Cunningham aside, that was his usual approach under Peter.

Never said it wouldn't watch had it happened, but I do think it would have been very cagey.
 I think in retrospect that my ire was directed more at the Leprechaun lad, who seems to be writing off a fight that never happened far more than you! :TU:

We'll never know what the fight would have been like and how it would have gone, but everyone was looking forward to it and Haye was on the decline and Fury wasn't the finished product, so why just go "it would have been sh*t"?

This is all in our imaginations, so use your imagination and imagine they both brought their A game, neither feared each other and both fought to win. That's how I like to think it would have gone down. And I'm not being optimistic: I genuinely think Haye thought Fury wasn't all that and I genuinely think Fury knew he was better than people thought he was.

I think it would have been a brilliant fight personally.

haye would never be in a brilliant fight vs any shw with a pulse

we already saw him with the run and throw 10 punches a round act, including vs the slow-motion big nik. 2 of the worst fights you'll ever see. even vs audley he hardly threw a punch for 2/3 of the fight

sure haye looked better vs chisora than usyk did, not sure what that really matters to how he'd look vs 6'8 tyson fury, who is a much tougher proposition and the exact dimensions that turn haye into mr track meet

let's be honest, haye fans absoltuely ripped onn w klit for years for his style, but haye was very similar with his approach when faced with big men. in fact it was funny enough wlad who pressed more in their fight lol

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it? At the time Fury was widely regarded as some clumsy oaf and chinny at that, and had also clearly bottled the Price fight. I'm sure Haye was confident he'd KO him and would have fought him with far more confidence than when he took on Wlad. Haye was always super cautious with very big men over 6'5" (Wlad, Valuev, even Audley) but when he went for it he got results, except against Wladamir who was in his prime and the best fighter of the whole era.

Fury vs Cunningham was great for entertainment value, but Cunningham was probably the best fighter Fury had faced at that point. Haye was a better fighter than Cunningham, and fought better when he was confident. So he would have been braver against Fury than against Wlad, who I thought beat him before he got to the ring. I don't think Haye was scared of Fury. My impressions were during the press conferences was that he thought he was an irritating dickhead. As a subsequent Fury convert, I'm happy to say I thought the same too. Fury wouldn't do the head to head, or take off his sunglasses and look Haye in the eye. To me. it looked like Fury who was pratting about and bottling it. Like I said, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Fury was too unstable and hadn’t fought in front of a big crowd yet.
Tyson doesn’t get into the ring unless 100%. He certainly wouldn’t get chinned at the Manchester Arena. Who’d do that?
Doesn’t he? Okay. Can think of many times he looked like a slob in there. I don’t know what you’re smoking.

I don’t smoke. He’s been a distance fighter all his career, regardless how he looks. Never gassed once.

Doing 12 rounds is easy if you are relaxed and setting the pace. There have been times that Fury has been out of shape but it's never mattered because he's so good.

He’s more relaxed in the ring than out of it.

It’s called tying them up like an octopus, arm punching, moving (one step like two of a 6ft1 man) and fencing to see rounds out.

Umm, don’t know about that. He often loses concentration in there

Can still happen.

Buatsi doesn’t have an ‘0’ anymore so we may see it soon.

It’s 4 years since this post but I still can’t believe it. Genuinely staggering they never fought each other at all. Saudi money would have got them together for sure.

Yet they all fought similar opposition. Just not each other! Wow!

Crazy to think.

British level, fringe level. Any level.
