Well, arguable. He was tracked almost to the undisputed championship.
True.
I just believe that he waited too long to go pro, necessitating an over accelerated pro career, no matter how impressive. He should not have been in the ring with Salido when he was, no matter what anyone thinks of the decision.
That does bring up another poorly managed career, IMO; TRex Jr (Gary Russell Jr.), although it seems to be just how he chose it to be.

Moruti Mthalane, at least for a large portion of his career (and tbf a LOT of recent South African fighters in general). Mthalane is, of course, a 2 time IBF Flyweight champion, but had little to no financial backing, seeing him vacate the title the first time rather than gave Amnat for pennies in Thailand. He should have been a big home star at that point...
... Given that Amnat won the vacant title then got huge fights with Shiming, Ioka and two big fights with Casimero, you need to wonder just how much money that decision left on the table for Moruti. Likewise the issues at the end of 2020 for his defense against Mama.

To be fair, he has made enough to retire on pretty happily.
It was the huge fights so soon that attracted all the attention, which in turn attracted the money

I read it on the Internet 20k english/ 30 in dollars.
Nevertheless Fielding hasn't fought again and Welborn is taking fights in the away corner, suggests to me he didn't bring in the big bucks!
I'm sure anything over 20k was well worth it, but going back to management, it was Fielding who got the retirement payday.

That’s the number the commission reported but they’re pretty much always understated.

Yeah but even for American fighters the numbers aren’t correct. I can’t imagine Welborn would have got any/much upside from U.K. PPV buys for the wilder/fury PPV but he would have got more from the promoters for the fight than listed by the commission.
The commission numbers are the lowest the guys receive. The amounts will likely be accurate for the journeyman away fighters down the card but for anyone further up the card they’re always underreported.

Surely a huge difference between being managed to make the most available money vs making the most of your talent and gaining the most significant victories.
Sometimes you can do both.
But Kell Brook is the perfect one that fits into both camps. I have no doubt he could have had a number of elite fights between 2014 and 2017 with other welterweights, and would have been highly competitive in each of them.
But other than making what appears to be an unmakeable fight with Amir Khan, would he have made financially what he made headlining PPVs against Gavin, GGG and Spence Jr, before his cash out against Crawford? Prob not.
Badly managed - not in my view. Achieved his potential by way of significant wins - no.

Yep, Groves is the complete opposite to this topic.

GG's career panned out soundly whoever managed him.
No mention of any ex-Don King fighters on the thread ? The epitome of scumbag along with his (step)son.
Tim Witherspoon one of his worst victims. Signs for £400,000 net guaranteed v Bruno, ends up with 90K in his mitts after The
Kings had done their sums. One of many shaftings for the likeable boxer.
Read up on the excellent Saoul Mamby. Scandelous treatment.
For knockout.

Is it worth being “badly managed” if it means you make millions?
Boxers want to make as much money as they can in what is a short career

Michael Hunter, Hughie Fury, Demetrius Andrade, Opetaia
Probably have more talent than their resumes show, in varying amounts, but inactivity and can crushing will leave them forgotten.

David Price. Some numb nuts decided that he should go from Matt Skelton straight into a fight with a proven contender, who was a rangy southpaw. Absolute madness.

Yeah, but it should been one step at a time. A couple at European level, a couple at fringe world, then a carefully selected contender who's style suits. Not just go from British to World level in one giant leap.
Luke Fury was well managed, because Wlad's people enquired about fighting him earlier in his career and were told that Fury "Wasn't ready". That's smart management.
