116-112 Haney
Haney was winning a near shutout until the end of rd 10 when he got hurt, so Linares swept the last 3 as Haney was mostly trying to hold in 11-12.
Haney was great on his backfoot! It was only competitive in the pocket, where Haney still typically had an edge. He could have won all 12 on his backfoot. However, he did not show great power as he never had his man wobbled. Linares on the other hand probably wishes he threw caution to the wind earlier. Linares didn't win the fight, but he won some respect from the crowd in the end, where Haney probably lost a little with all the holding. Haney was the crowd favorite going in, but he is catching a lot of boos in his interview (not that I agree with the attitude of those fans; what do they want their fighter to get stopped?)

Right now, no. The potential is there. Brilliant jab for example.
maybe, nowhere close to it now though. personally i think he is very good but just doesnt seem to have an x factor that really jumps out to me

Great job by Linares!! What a job. Haney got worn down after trying too hard for the ko. Haney is a good fighter but not top shelf with Lomassiah and Teo.
Depends if he’s a fighter that learns. If he learns from this experience he could be top shelf. He performed brilliantly the first 6 rounds, almost flawlessly. He has the potential. Needs to be smarter though and play the long game as he won’t be blasting anyone out early it seems.
Agreed. He is not top shelf, yet. He may or may not get there.

Haney is not ready for the top end, yet.

More importantly, that performance is cured cement for Linares’ legacy. What a fighter!

117 - 111 Haney. Both guys were great, Devin is still learning... at this effin' stage, though.

Linares was definitely quality and showed true heart coming on late after absorbing a fair amount. Well done. Good fight.

Haney doesn't carry enough pop.
Good card, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it for the most part.

if he's struggling to dent guys this much at 135, could be an absolute pillow hands at heavier weights if he doesnt get stronger
and i mean, he's skillful, but he's not THAT silky smooth or anything
i dunno, ive just gone off him his last few, he's good no doubt but way too much talk about him being super special

This was BETTER match making than the Gamboa fight (which was always going to be a bad outcome for Haney), but the result here is a lot worse for him. In the eyes of his detractors, he's just gone the distance with a 35 year old, china chinned paper skinned, shot fighter, who was stopped just a few fights ago by Cano. And not only that but he was rocked, hard, and never really seemed to recover...in fact he held like a desperate child for 2 rounds.
The gulf between him and Lopez is huge on the back of their last performances.
Issues for Haney is that it's not a one off performance either. An inability to finish Linares and Gamboa, a dull as fornicate performance against Santiago, Mini Burgos losing 2 of his following 3, the fact Ndongeni was blasted by a journeyman soon after taking Haney 12.
Any one of those things in isolation would be easy to write off, but instead they are adding up...

ya, i mean his resume and performances are pretty good if you just look at them on their own
but when you're constantly being told that he's some super special, already great fighter, and when you have guys like gamboa and linares whose 8 other losses were by ko.....it's a bit lackluster. he's nowhere near that for me.. its not just that he doest stop a lot of these guys, it;s just not 'x-factor' qualities he shows me.
he's not in teo's league right now tbh

If Haney dosent get baited and fights how he fought the first 5 rounds I have him even money vs everyone at 135/140. I think he is slick enough to get it done, just gotta avoid getting cracked (which is hard when people don’t have to respect your power).
But make no mistake of it, Haney could of boxed a shutout tonight, just still has a chip on his shoulder and is trying to prove he can KO guys... needs to stop trying to prove that an just win 10 rounds a fight for the rest of his career...

being a pillow puncher will make it hard for him to box like that from start to finish. and he's not elite level slick to me where he can just be counted on to cruise vs serious opposition. chin didnt look too good either when he was caught....he was never even recovered 3 rounds on
good fighter no doubt, but this common idea that he's 'great' or really special just doenst fit with what ive seen. think teo is the total package and at a different level

I don’t think Him being great is that common. Eddie and his dad really, And me on the fence. I kinda do think he is elite slick, At least elite slick for his age. Hope he fights lopez next, I’d have it genuine 50-50 with my judging, but I think judges would favour lopez if it goes 12. But has to become happy with being semi negative and fighting off the back of his jab.

All iv seen lopez do is spark an eh comey, credit to that and beat loma who decided to give away the first 6 rounds. I dunno mabey I should credit him more but I honestly think that was more a bad loma performance, how I remember it I was basicaly yelling at my tv for loma to throw a punch for 20 mins then a competitive 2nd half.

im sure haney would win a blistering 8-4/7-5 decision over commey
hmmm, negative opponent, not punching much....isnt that how you want haney to fight?

I'll take some of those 50-50 odds too please! Lopez should be, at worst, a 65-35 favorite vs Haney on recent performances.
Matchroom need to do their darndest to get him a suitable opponent next time out, not a shot guy, not a guy with a padded but pretty record, or a smaller guy, but a legit prime contender or recent champion (Commey would be ideal or Berinchyk, Yoshino, Tanajara, heck even William Zepeda would be fine). Someone there to rip the title away. See how he performs there, see what he can deliver. He needs to stop being put in these no win situations again smaller, older, guys that he's expected to blow out.

Nice one
I'm less impressed with Haney after that for the reasons you listed.
Definitely not a hard hitter, Linares had to be stopped or at least dropped a few times for me to think Haney is ready for the next level.
Great jab, but it's not enough.

with a ref doing his job how many clear warnings issued and resulting points deducted if he still would've continued to hold should haney have gotten?

Nothing special about this fight and the performance of the email champ. Linares' relevance became questionable after the Loma loss followed by the first round KO loss to some noname. The ending of the 10th round was fun though.
The email champ should have fought the instagram champ instead. But these "champions" keep fighting leftovers of Lomachenko, claim mental health problems and do any possible kinds of sh!t instead of providing quality boxing. That's the boxing fans, who really get depressed, after watching all this sh!t.

Haney, for a young kid and his first big test did fine. He landed more punches on Linares than any previous opponent, including MGarcia and loma. It's funny people say Linares is shot, but Floyd wasn't when he fought Canelo or Pac at an older age.
