Yep - their side asked for more info on certain things hence the delay. Crazy that they get away with so much.

WBA Purse Bid Postponed To March 21

Trevor Bryan and Daniel Dubois will have to wait another week to learn their heavyweight fate.

BS.com has confirmed that a purse bid hearing to determine promotional rights for the secondary WBA heavyweight title fight has been postponed to March 21. The hearing was originally due to take place March 14 but was pushed back by one week after “different requirements from the champion Bryan’s team made it necessary to postpone it,” according to WBA Championship Committee chairman Cesar Chavez.

The WBA has set a minimum acceptable offer of $1,000,000 for the fight, with WBA-registered promoters also required to submit a $15,000 participation fee. The winning bid must come with a 10% deposit within 24 hours of the hearing, which will be conducted via Zoom.

The winning bid will be split 55/45 in favor of Bryan as the defending WBA ‘World’ heavyweight titlist.

Bryan—an unbeaten 32-year-old heavyweight from upstate New York who now lives and trains in Fort Lauderdale, Florida—won the belt last January in an eleventh-round knockout of faded, former WBC heavyweight titlist Bermane Stiverne. The fight was pieced together during fight week, with Stiverne a late replacement for Manuel Charr who was stripped of his title due to being unable to travel to the U.S. following an issue in securing a travel visa.

The two were due to meet this past January 29—one year to the day of their scheduled 2021 fight. The same issue forced Charr off the show, this time with enough notice to secure unbeaten though untested Jonathan Guidry as a replacement opponent. Bryan prevailed by unanimous decision in their spirited fight at W.D. Packard Music Hall in Warren, Ohio.

Dubois (17-1, 16KOs) was the number-one contender in waiting, ready to have his mandatory challenger status enforced. The 24-year-old Londoner was assigned the ranking last August as one of several WBA interim titlists who saw their belts removed from circulation. The development took place just days prior to his U.S. debut, a first-round knockout of Jose Cusumano in his most recent start last August 29 in Cleveland, Ohio.

The fight was Dubois’ second win following his lone career defeat, a tenth-round knockout to Joe Joyce. Dubois led on two of the three scorecards after nine rounds but was counted out after taking a knee due to excruciating pain from what was learned to be a fractured left eye socket which required surgery.

Per a previous WBA order, Bryan-Dubois must take place no later than July 28—180 days from the time of Bryan’s granted voluntary title defense versus Guidry.

The winner will hold a secondary version of the WBA “Super” heavyweight title currently in the possession of Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13KOs), who also owns the IBF/WBO/IBO belts. Usyk is likely to postpone his contractually-bound rematch with former two-time heavyweight titlist Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22KOs) due to having to bear arms in the ongoing Russo-Ukraine war.

The WBA should next up in the mandatory contender rotation system, which would leave the Bryan-Dubois winner in a good position.

King won the bid with $3.1m against Frank’s $2.5m.

Will be interesting to see what happens next. Dubois couldn’t fight in the US at the end of last year due to not being jabbed. He’s getting the fat end of $1.4m so that may be enough for him to get jabbed.

Any other outfit wins the bid, Dubois should take the money and hand Bryan the L.

However, what are the chances that this bout is subject to bucket load of cancellations, delays, venue changes etc etc.

Dubois could be older than Luis Ortiz when it finally happens.

TBF, the fights not worth $2.5m never mind $3.1m..

Frank knew he had to dig a little deep to secure the fight..

Unfortunately he couldn’t do that .

DDD gets a nice pay day.

IF the fight happens.

The fights not worth that much... but whats the belt worth? Whats a year of DDDs career wasted worth? hard to say...

for a DDD type, good, young but not quite ready for the top he could defend a WBA reg 5 times, probably adding a million bucks in revenue to each of those fights and making sure he gets the fights he wants. Also allow him to drag people over from usa easier.

He now enters a world where sure frank dosent lose any money on the show, but he probably has his main guy get fucked around forever... Someone earlier said DDD dosent have the needle? watch don king find a state thats mandatory in to schedual the fight...

I’m no economist but that seems a very aggressive bid by DK.
I can see DD having to choose between getting jabbed or waving goodbye to his title shot - and as meaningless as the title is it’s a good belt for him at this stage in his career as others have said. Let’s him develop at a steady pace

I’m guessing South Fla is Florida ain’t it?

London would be good and if DK is clever enough to figure it out, the fight probably sells better in the UK, will likely be a PPV on BT sPorts. :KO:

WTF.

Dubois loses in his first serious test.

Two unremarkable wins later and he is worth close to $1.5m.

This has to be result of two promoters wanting to out macho the other.

Mate, forget that.... trev has done zero ever and is worth near 2 million....

This isnt egos, this is scumbaggery.. Frank bid big because his big names future is on the line and he didnt want that intertwined with don kings bullshit. Don king bid high so he has control and can weezle his way out of the fight, instead having trev fight a binman that magicaly apears in the WBA rankings fight week.

Well DK won the bid, so doesn’t mean Bryan will get what he’s entitled to.

Only gets his share of 3 million if the fight happens. Which it won't. Because it would lose money. So the only option for Don King is shenanigans

Here we go

I guess that means Dubois would still get $775k which is still overpaying. I imagine Bryan would actually see a similar amount or less.

EDIT: For reference, if Frank won his bid of $2.5m, Dubois could have got $1m at 45%.

If there is anyone that should be blacklisted from purse bids, it is him.

It’s not even a real belt!

If he had an issue, he should have taking it to court before purse bids.

Basically, he doesn’t even have $1m to pay DDD his guarantee.

He can pay Bryan whatever he likes anyway.

What a disingenuous little sod!

He places a bid, having no doubt done a side deal with Bryan.

Goes over the top because he only plans to pay Dubois 25%

Doesn’t make any of these noises beforehand so he can play innocent after the event - and doesn’t give the heads up to his rival who is bidding under different terms.

There is no way this can come off. Not even the WBA can change the terms of a bid after the event.
