Leigh Wood is definitely too sensitive for me. He’s been made to look a little stupid and instead of laugh it off and let it be forgotten quickly he felt he needed to post a picture of Conlan sitting ringside at what I assume was a fight of his.
Seems to lack a sense of humour.
If anyone sees him tell him his WBA belt is plastic AF.
He will probably fight you right there and then in Aldi.

I haven't seen Wood reaction, but the conlan and Hearn posts are a bit bullying and humiliating. I mean I think it's quite sweet he was a fan boy of Conlan. Esp as Conlan is not that special. It also shows he's a hardcore boxing fan which I like in a fighter.

Terri Harper-Heather Hardy Added To Wood-Conlan Undercard, March 12 In Nottingham

Terri Harper is set for a fresh start at an old fighting weight.

The former WBC/IBO junior lightweight titlist returns to the ring for her first fight following the end of her title reign, moving back up to lightweight to next face former featherweight titleholder Heather Hardy. The scheduled 10-round fight will land on the undercard of the already announced Leigh Wood-Michael Conlan WBA featherweight title fight on a March 12 DAZN show from Nottingham Arena in Nottingham.

“Straight back into the fire,” Eddie Hearn, Harper’s promoter and head of Matchroom Boxing announced Monday. “Terri Harper’s first fight at lightweight will be against former world champ Heather Hardy on the big Wood-Conlan card March 12 in Nottingham live on DAZN.”

The fight marks the first fight at lightweight for Harper (11-1-1, 6KOs) since 2019, preceding her first career title fight. The 25-year-old Harper claimed the IBO belt in July 2019, making four successful defenses including a ten-round win over Eva Wahlstrom to also earn the more widely recognized WBC strap in their February 2020 title fight at Utilita Arena in Sheffield, minutes from her hometown of Denaby Main, England.

The same venue saw Harper’s reign come to a crashing halt in her most recent bout, a devastating fourth-round knockout at the heavy hands of Alycia Baumgardner (11-1, 7KOs). The November 13 title fight saw Baumgardner land a crushing right hand that left Harper out on her feet, prompting an immediate stoppage in what was recognized by BS.com as the 2021 Female Knockout of the Year.

Harper has since decided to take her 5’8 ½” frame back up to lightweight, in hopes of eventually becoming a two-division titlist.

“Back to work, straight back into a big fight,” noted Harper, who weighed 138 pounds for her November 2017 pro debut. “Thank you, Eddie Hearn [and] Matchroom Boxing for getting me back out so quickly. It’s an honour to be fighting Heather Hardy, an icon and former world champion.”

Brooklyn’s Hardy (22-2, 4KOs) previously held the WBO featherweight title, losing the belt to seven-division champ Amanda Serrano (42-1-1, 30KOs) in September 2019. The bout was followed by a lengthy 20-month ring absence before returning last May 14, only to suffer a stunning eight-round defeat to Jessica Camara in her own lightweight debut. Hardy had never previously fought heavier than featherweight but will remain in the 135-pound division.

A win by Harper could come right on time in her pursuit of becoming a two-division titlist. Irish superstar Katie Taylor (20-0, 6KOs) is the current undisputed lightweight queen and is in advanced stages of finalizing a superlight with Serrano eyed for April 30 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Taylor and Harper are both promoted by Hearn, while Serrano is a promotional free agent and currently signed with content creator Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions in a managerial capacity. Taylor has already satisfied mandatory title defense obligations with the WBC, IBF and WBA all since the pandemic, leaving room for the Taylor-Serrano winner to pursue the next challenge at their leisure and relatively free of the sport’s politics.

Yeah - 4 months is a bit of a tight turnaround after being stopped like that.

It’s a tough one. I’m sure she wants to get back in the ring, Bull will be keen to get his commissions after a dry Jan and Eddie will be keen for her to shift 750/1,000 tickets for a show that may struggle to sell.

I always think in this circumstance it’s down to the trainer/manager to make the call. Bull will know her better than anyone so should know if she’s mentally and physically ready to come back. Saying that I didn’t think she looked physically ready for her last fight.

Leigh Wood: I Visualize Getting Michael Conlan Out of There!

Leigh Wood will make the first defence of his WBA Featherweight World Title against Irish star Michael Conlan at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham on Saturday March 12, live worldwide on DAZN (excluding New Zealand and Australia) - and tickets are on sale THIS WEEK.

Wood (25-2, 15 KOs) stopped China's Xu Can in the 12th and final round to claim the WBA World Title in a huge upset at the top of the bill on the first week of Matchroom Fight Camp in Brentwood, Essex last July.

‘Leigh-thal’ created history by becoming only the second ever boxer from Nottingham to become a World Champion – following in the footsteps of former IBF Super-Middleweight ruler Carl Froch who was watching on from ringside.

"I visualize getting him out of there," said Wood. "Mick is a good fighter but I will be too much for him. When things aren't going right I haven't got a quit in me and I'm extremely confident of getting the win and looking good doing it. I'm a lot bigger and a more seasoned Featherweight. I like to show a lot of grit and resilience. I've taken a hard route to get where I am today. I don't want to get to this level then have to climb back up again."

Belfast's Conlan (16-0, 8 KOs) earned the interim WBA Featherweight crown by defeating former World Champion TJ Doheny on points over 12 rounds in an all-Irish clash as part of the Feile an Phobail festival at Falls Park last August.

One of Ireland's most successful ever amateurs, 30-year-old Conlan has remained undefeated since joining the pro ranks in March 2017 following his controversial exit from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, picking up the WBA and WBO Intercontinental Titles along the way.

"Leigh believes in his own power more than he probably should, that will be the unravelling of him," said Conlan. "I don't need to talk any sh*t, I'll do my talking in the ring. 100% this is going to be my toughest fight but I'll win it comfortably. It's a chess match and I'll be the one saying checkmate at the end. 2022 I become World Champion."

I quite like the fight for a women’s fight. I just think it’s 2 months too soon for Harper but I’m sure her team know better than I do.

Really hope it’s not the co-main though!

Is it me or has there been quite the increase in boxing ticket prices in the last 10 years or so? I’ve done VIP a few times but the most I’ve paid for it was £150 (I think) for Bellew/Cleverly 2. A lot of shows arena shows don’t even have tickets as cheap as £40 now.

Hearn's cheapest tickets for standard shows has always been £40 and kept it at that for a while.

It's a 10k seater arena. So the prices are decent.

Warren has his minimum at £45 to £50 for cheapest.

Seats very close to the ring, free beers (although we couldn’t take them to our seats), some snacky foods (which they pushed as canapés), access to a toilet that wasn’t carnage and the chance to meet some other of the top boxers who are there watching which was always a highlight for me.

I was VIP for Mick's fight against Doheny in the summer. Ringside seats and complimentary drinks were included - although the event had 15 bars and only 1 was VIP so it took nearly an hour to get a drink. Made one trip and then decided to just pay for the rest of the drinks as it was 55 minutes quicker lol still the ring side seats and the event were worth the extra cash.

It’s not a no brainer price though. Probably even more than going to watch Leeds United and you would, if they’re like most other small shows, have mostly one sided prospect vs journeyman fights.

If they still sell them out then they’re clearly not too expensive - just more than I was expecting!

They've gone up a fiver since the lockdown. They're nearly all 60-54 jobs. I feel obliged to go as I know a few lads on usually and they always ask me. Sometimes more than one will, which will put you in an awkward situation. I was buying off one kid and then someone a lot closer to me turned over....
