Maybe dominate was too strong of a word, but he was the clear winner despite having an injured arm and short notice to fight a southpaw.lookingaround87 wrote: ↑14 Mar 2022, 08:01He didn't dominate and Pacquiao looked absolutely awful, completely shot.

dont you always say injuries are excuses
Re: Errol Spence vs. Yordenis Ugas | Showtime PPV - April 16, 2022
He didn't dominate, but you're definitely exaggerating how shot Manny looked. Yes he wasn't what he used to be, but he didn't suck and still put up a formidable effort. You could tell that the Pacquiao of years earlier would've beaten the hell out of Ugas.lookingaround87 wrote: ↑14 Mar 2022, 08:01He didn't dominate and Pacquiao looked absolutely awful, completely shot.
It was a good one to go out on. A competitive loss.
I think Ugas is a live dog against Spence, but I'd have to lean heavily toward Spence to win a UD.

Espinoza: Butaev-Stanionis, Lee-Ochoa On Showtime Before Spence-Ugas PPV ‘An Experiment’
Showtime will air live boxing before a pay-per-view event on the network’s main linear channel for the first time April 16.
Stephen Espinoza, Showtime’s president of sports and event programming, considers it an experiment. For at least one night, however, boxing fans that subscribe to that premium cable channel can watch two more bouts before the pay-per-view portion of the Errol Spence Jr.-Yordenis Ugas undercard begins at 9 p.m. ET from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The second of those two Showtime fights – Radzhab Butaev versus Eimantas Stanionis – on paper appears to be the most intriguing of the five fights that likely will air as part of the pay-per-view and linear portions of the Spence-Ugas undercard. Russia’s Butaev (14-0, 11 KOs, 1 NC) will make a mandated defense of his WBA world welterweight title against Lithuania’s Stanionis (13-0, 9 KOs).
In the 10-round opener of Showtime’s two-bout broadcast, hard-hitting junior welterweight contender Brandun Lee (24-0, 22 KOs), of La Quinta, California, will battle Brooklyn’s Zachary Ochoa (21-2, 7 KOs).
Espinoza explained the rationale for offering two Spence-Ugas undercard bouts on Showtime during a virtual press conference Tuesday, when moderator Brian Custer unveiled the network’s spring and early-summer schedule.
“It’s interesting,” Espinoza said. “I think normally what people are used to seeing in a situation like this is, you know, prelim fights are streamed or sometimes there’s a special. It doesn’t do this card, this undercard justice to call it a prelim stream or prelim fights. … We’re opening the show on the televised portion of that ‘[Showtime] Championship Boxing’ with Brandun Lee and Zach Ochoa. You know, Brandun’s been getting a lot of heat – 24-0, 22 knockouts, has looked phenomenal. And Zach Ochoa, you know, a good, young fighter as well.
“And Butaev-Stanionis, you know, in that fight to position themselves ultimately to hopefully [land] a title shot. So, that will be its own stand-alone show leading into the pay-per-view. And that will be on Showtime. It’s something that we haven’t done, but again, trying to deliver a huge night of boxing, top to bottom. And, you know, with these two fights, we just had an embarrassment of riches. So, the reality is let’s put ‘em on a platform, on the Showtime platform, where they belong, give them the spotlight that it deserves.”
Mexican lightweight contender Isaac Cruz (22-2-1, 15 KOs) will encounter Cuban veteran Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-4, 18 KOs) in the 12-round pay-per-view co-feature just before Spence (27-0, 21 KOs) and Ugas (27-4, 12 KOs) square off for Spence’s IBF and WBC welterweight titles and Ugas’ WBA “super” belt. The pay-per-view portion of the show will begin with a 10-round bout between Jose Valenzuela (11-0, 7 KOs), a lightweight prospect from Seattle, and Mexico’s Francisco Vargas (27-3-2, 19 KOs), a former WBC super featherweight champion.
Canadian welterweight contender Cody Crowley (20-0, 9 KOs) and Josesito Lopez (38-8, 21 KOs, 1 NC) are expected to meet in the second of three Spence-Ugas undercard bouts.
Altogether, Showtime will offer more than five hours of live boxing the night of April 16.
“Look, I think it’s experimenting,” Espinoza said. “We know not everybody out there is, you know, looking forward to, you know, maybe four, five hours of boxing. You know, certainly our hardcore fans I think will appreciate it. So, it’s an experiment. And, you know, in this case, you know, it’s really a function of an embarrassment of riches, and having so many good cards and so many good fights to do that even, you know, the pay-per-view undercard wasn’t enough to contain all the fights that we had to get done.
“So, I think as long as we deliver that level of quality, why not, you know, double down and make this one of the biggest boxing nights of the year? In this case, you know, two really intriguing, you know, TV Showtime fights, along with a pay-per-view card, that’s a fight card. You know, that’s a great fight card right there.”

Re: Errol Spence vs. Yordenis Ugas | Showtime PPV - April 16, 2022
Press Release Gamboa vs. Cruz, two more bouts added to April 16th PPV show
Three bouts have been added to the pay-per-view line-up headlined by WBC and IBF champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. vs. his WBA counterpart, Yordenis Ugas squaring off in a welterweight title unification clash on Saturday, April 16th live from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in a Premier Boxing Champions event. The pay-per-view telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and features lightweight contender Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz taking on former featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa in the ten-round co-main event. The line-up also includes unbeaten Jose Valenzuela battling former 130-pound champion Francisco “El Bandido” Vargas in a ten-round lightweight fight, plus unbeaten Cody Crowley against veteran Josesito Lopez in a ten-round duel of all-action welterweights that kicks off the telecast.
“One of the year’s biggest events will feature a deserving pay-per-view undercard lineup loaded with consequential matchups that are primed to deliver drama and action,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Isaac Cruz showed against Gervonta Davis that he is a star in the making, and he’ll be looking to display those talents once again against an accomplished opponent in Yuriorkis Gamboa. Plus, another rising star in Jose Valenzuela will step up in competition against former champion Francisco Vargas, while Cody Crowley and Josesito Lopez will both bring their high-octane styles into the ring in what shapes up to be a ‘can’t-miss’ showdown to open the loaded SHOWTIME PPV.”
The 23 year-old Cruz (22-2-1, 15 KOs) will return to the ring after dropping a competitive decision against WBA regular lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in December. A native of Mexico City, Cruz shot up the lightweight rankings in 2020, announcing his presence with a first-round knockout over veteran Diego Magdaleno in October. Cruz followed that up in 2021 by winning a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Matías Romero in March and by defeating former champion Francisco Vargas by decision in June. After making his U.S. debut in December 2019, Cruz went unbeaten in his next four bouts, including beating Magdaleno.
“I can’t wait to be back in the ring and to fight at AT&T Stadium,” said Cruz. “I love the fans in Texas, they always give me tremendous support. My promoter, Manny Pacquiao, has fought at AT&T Stadium before and won both times. I’m excited to follow in his footsteps against a very accomplished former champion in Gamboa. I’m coming to show the fans why I’m one of the best lightweights in the world and to drive Gamboa into retirement on April 16th
Gamboa (30-4, 18 KOs) is a former unified featherweight champion, holding the IBF and WBA 126-pound titles between 2009 and 2011. A native of Guantanamo, Cuba, he now lives and trains in Miami, Fla. He dropped a showdown against Terence Crawford in a 2014 Fight of the Year, before rebounding to win seven of eight fights. That run included victories over former world champions Jason Sosa and Roman Martinez, putting Gamboa back into world title contention. In his last two fights, Gamboa has dropped contests against current lightweight world champions, losing via 12th-round TKO to Gervonta Davis in 2019 and by decision against Devin Haney in November 2020.
“I always come to the ring to display my talents and April 16 will be no different,” said Gamboa. “It’s very motivating to be facing a young, strong opponent like Isaac Cruz. I’m going to test him and see if he can stand up to my power. I’m coming to win and make a big statement that I still have what it takes to become champion again.”
The 22-year-old Valenzuela (11-0, 7 KOs) now trains with unbeaten former two-time WBC champion David Benavidez as he seeks to move from prospect to contender in 2022. Born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, Valenzuela turned pro in 2018 and rode a five-bout knockout streak before earning his first ten-round decision in a victory over Deiner Berrio in September 2021. Valenzuela capped off his breakout 2021 in December, dominating Austin Dulay on his way to a TKO in round four.
“It’s a dream come true to be on a high-stakes, stacked card like this,” said Valenzuela. “I’ve admired and studied Spence for a long time, especially because we’re both lefties. I can’t wait to get in the ring. I’m not overlooking or underestimating Francisco Vargas in any way. I’m expecting fireworks. You always get a big fight when two Mexican warriors go head-to-head, so I know the fans are going to be delighted with what they see on April 16.”
Fighting out of Mexico City, Vargas (27-3-2, 19 KOs) won a 130-pound title in 2015 by defeating Takashi Miura in one of the year’s best fights. The 37 year-old would go on to fight Orlando Salido to an action-packed draw before losing his title to Miguel Berchelt in another memorable affair. Vargas later defeated Stephen Smith and Rod Salka before losing in his rematch with Berchelt in 2019. Most recently, Vargas began campaigning at lightweight, scoring back-to-back victories over Ezequiel Aviles in 2019 and Otto Gamez in 2020, prior to dropping a decision against Isaac Cruz in his last fight in June 2021.
“It is an honor to be on such a big card with so many great fighters,” said Vargas. “I’m going to come prepared for this fight and ready to leave the ring with a victory. I know Valenzuela will be trying to make a statement, but I’m coming to do the same. As always, the fans can expect a tremendous fight from start to finish.”
Representing his native Ontario, Canada, Crowley (20-0, 9 KOs) returns to the ring after a career-changing win in December 2021 that saw him hand the first pro loss to Kudratillo Abdukakhorov by unanimous decision. Crowley had previously defeated Josh Torres in September 2020 following a 2019 run that saw him win a Canadian 154-pound title with a twelve-round decision over Stuart McLellan in February before successfully defending that title with a dominant decision over Mian Hussain in October. The 28 year-old returned to fight in the U.S. for his last two fights after seven of his first eight pro fights took place in the U.S.
“After my win in December, I’m ready to accept the next challenge on my journey to becoming welterweight champion of the world,” said Crowley. “Josesito Lopez is always tough and he brings an exciting style to the table. Unfortunately for him, he will discover what 20 fighters before him have learned, which is that I will not be stopped from achieving my destiny. I want to thank my team for this opportunity to display my skills, heart and relentlessness on this great card at the home of the Dallas Cowboys.”
Lopez (38-8, 21 KOs) earned the nickname “The Riverside Rocky’’ because of his go-for-broke style in the ring. He has stepped in across from some of the top boxers in the sport, including champions Canelo Alvarez, Marcos Maidana, Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz. The 37-year-old from Riverside, California is always a tough out in the ring as noted by his narrow majority decision loss to then-champion Keith Thurman in 2019. Since that loss, Lopez has put together back-to-back victories, defeating John Molina, Jr. and Francisco Santana.
“I’m eager and very motivated to step back in the ring and prove myself as one of the best fighters in the world,” said Lopez. “I expect a stiff challenge from Crowley and the fans can expect to see me at my very best. I’m in great shape and ready to put everything on the line. You will definitely want to make sure you don’t miss my fight on April 16th.”

Re: Errol Spence vs. Yordenis Ugas | Showtime PPV - April 16, 2022
According to PADDYPOWER, betfair, CORAL, betway and Ladbrokes, Errol Spence Jr. is 83% certain of defeating Yordenis Ugas (1/5), with the underdog rated by skybet as having a 22% chance of victory (7/2).
The betting odds I’ve quoted for the Spence Jr-Ugas fight are pretty consistent for 25 bookmakers (as per the stats supplied by oddschecker).
I kind of understand the reason why Spence Jr. is a big favourite, because if he’s anywhere near his best, then he should be able to score a relatively straightforward decision win over the Cuban.
However, by the time he steps foot inside the ring against Ugas, Spence Jr. would have only competed once during the previous 31 months, whilst also needing time to recover from multiple injuries (i.e. the car crash and subsequently the detached retina).
The 32-year-old American might already be past-his-prime.
To be clear, I’m not suggesting that Spence Jr. is shot, but I strongly suspect he’s incapable of delivering the performance levels we witnessed three years ago.
My heart wants Spence Jr. to defy my expectations and deliver a seriously impressive performance against Ugas, because it could potentially build sufficient demand to finally make the Crawford fight.
But my head is compelling me to place a bet on Yordenis Ugas to score the upset, even though I currently favour Spence Jr. to emerge victorious from a highly-competitive bout.
I just think it’s one of those fights where the betting odds are incredibly unrealistic, to the point they’re too tempting to resist.
The betting websites wrongly regard the Spence Jr-Ugas bout to be a borderline mismatch.

Might be wise to slap a small cheeky bet on Ugas.

I guess that's why I rarely bet.
It makes no sense to me to be certain one guy will win, and then bet on the other guy? "A fool and his money will soon be parted"

if it's a draw- this is a little-known fact- it actually means you were doublyright, you were actually right twice over*
* this only applies if you say you pick one fighter to win and bet on the other, because it means that really, in some way you're actually saying both of them will win, which means that each pick cancels the other out, which = draw**
now all you need to do is go on the internet and start bragging about it
** if either of them win you just stick with the 'I got it right again' narrative, and hope nobody will notice your bet-hedging play for attention and respect.

Re: Errol Spence vs. Yordenis Ugas | Showtime PPV - April 16, 2022
Press Release | Showtime Telecast Details, ALL ACCESS Information
SHOWTIME Sports is preparing two significant programs in support of one of this year’s biggest pay-per-view events.
The network will for the first time televise a special Showtime Championship Boxing headlined by WBA Welterweight Champion Radzhab Butaev and top contender Eimantas Stanionis in a battle of unbeatens taking place immediately before the four-fight Spence vs. Ugas SHOWTIME PPV from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Showtime telecast begins live at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT and also features unbeaten rising star Brandun Lee taking on Zachary Ochoa in a super lightweight bout.
Additionally, Showtime Sports will premiere a new installment of the Emmy Award-winning series ALL ACCESS. The multi-part series premieres Saturday, April 2, at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime with episode two premiering Saturday, April 9, at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT in advance of Spence vs. Ugas on Saturday, April 16. Furthermore, ALL ACCESS Epilogue will premiere on SHOWTIME the following Saturday, April 23, and will showcase fight week in Dallas as well as all the action inside the ropes on fight night and the immediate aftermath.
“We are pulling out all the stops for the April 16 event, which is easily one of the biggest of the year. Delivering a special episode of Showtime Championship Boxing to our subscribers before the four-fight pay-per-view card begins is something that has never been done in the history of this network. We are proud to break precedent,” said Stephen Espinoza, President, Sports & Event Programming, Showtime Networks Inc.
“Adding high-stakes, compelling fights to an already strong undercard elevates what is sure to be a memorable night for boxing. Plus, a new installment of our signature ALL ACCESS series to chronicle the divergent paths of Spence and Ugas to reach this moment will be captivating drama. It’s an embarrassment of riches from top to bottom for the boxing audience.”
Tickets for the April 16 live event at AT&T Stadium are on sale now and can be purchased at SeatGeek.com, the Official Ticketing Provider of AT&T Stadium.
The 28-year-old Butaev (14-0, 11 KOs) captured his WBA title with a dominating performance on SHOWTIME in October, as he battered top contender Jamal James on his way to a ninth-round stoppage victory. Butaev turned pro after approximately 400 amateur bouts in 2016 and reeled-off KOs in six of his first seven outings. Butaev is now trained by top coach Joel Diaz in Indio, Calif. His TKO victory over James gave Butaev victories inside of the distance in five of his last six fights.
“I’m feeling very prepared for this fight on April 16,” said Butaev. “Every time I step into the ring, I’m looking to give the fans an exciting fight. Knowing how Stanionis also loves to come forward and compete, this time, it’s a guarantee that there are going to be fireworks. We’re definitely both going to bring it in this fight. Make sure you don’t miss this one, because it’s going to be a brutal back-and-forth affair.”
Stanionis (13-0, 9 KOs) earned a series of attention-grabbing victories as he has climbed the ranks from prospect to contender, including a career-best 12-round decision over Thomas Dulorme in April 2021 on SHOWTIME. The 27-year-old former Olympian from Lithuania, who now lives and trains in California, most recently fought former champion Luis Collazo to a no-decision in August 2021 after an accidental clash of heads prematurely ended the action. Prior to going 12 rounds for the first time with Dulorme, Stanionis had stopped six of his previous eight opponents.
“I’m excited for this huge opportunity to show my skills in front of thousands of fans at AT&T Stadium,” said Stanionis. “Butaev is a strong opponent. I know that this is going to be a hard fight for both of us and that our styles are going to make this action-packed for as long as it lasts. My goal for 2022 is to become world champion. That’s been my dream since I was a child and now I’m very close to bringing the belt back home to Lithuania.”
A highly regarded prospect, Lee (24-0, 22 KOs) has won his last 15 fights by knockout, most recently dropping and stopping veteran contender Juan Heraldez on SHOWTIME in December 2021. Trained by his father Bobby, Lee fought four times in 2020 and three times in 2021 as he continued to pile up knockouts. He had a decorated amateur career with an estimated record of 196-5 and was the 2015 U.S. Junior National Champion, taking home the gold medal at 145 pounds.
“I think it is a great idea to have our fight lead into the SHOWTIME PPV,” said Lee. “What better way to show all the boxing fans out there some of the top young talent looking to become the next contenders and world champions in the sport.”
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Ochoa (21-2, 7 KOs) trains in Philadelphia with highly regarded trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards. The 28-year-old was unbeaten in his first 16 pro fights and bounced back from his first pro defeat to win five straight contests between 2017 and 2020. Ochoa returns to the ring after dropping a narrow, split decision to Argentine contender Juan Jose Velasco in February of 2021.
"I’m very ready and focused on this fight coming up on April 16,” said Ochoa. “I’m sure Lee will be ready too and that just makes me more motivated to be at my best. Trust me, this is a night boxing fans will not want to miss!"

Re: Errol Spence vs. Yordenis Ugas | Showtime PPV - April 16, 2022
Purchase Price And Sweepstakes Revealed For April 16 Showtime PPV Event
Fans can once again expect to pay a premium price to watch unified WBC/IBF welterweight titlist Errol Spence.
The latest Pay-Per-View headliner is far more incentivized for consumers.
Boxing Scene has confirmed that a standard retail price of $74.99 has been set for the April 16 Showtime PPV, headlined by the WBC/IBF/WBA welterweight title unification bout between Spence and Yordenis Ugas (27-4, 12KOs) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The price is in line with Spence’s three previous PPV headliners versus Danny Garcia ($74.99), Shawn Porter ($69.99) and Mikey Garcia ($74.99).
Unlike the other three shows, Spence-Ugas includes a promotion offered by PPV.com (https://www.ppv.com/events/spencejrvsugas), the main online source to order the premium event. Fans who order through the iNDEMAND -established platform will be automatically entered in a sweepstakes where the grand prize winner will receive two tickets, airfare and hotel for the 2022 PPV event of their choice.
“We’re looking for ways to bring PPV events to life for our viewers,” Marc Boccardi, senior vice president of programming and marketing for PPV.com told Boxing Scene.
Spence-Ugas is one of six PPV events from April 1 through May 28 to be carried by PPV.com, which was launched in December 2021 by iNDEMAND—a partnership between leading cable companies Charter Communications, Comcast Cable, and Cox Communications. The decision to offer an online option came out of necessity though also with the acknowledgement of making it easier for consumers to purchase PPV events.
“We wanted to make it as simple as possible,” noted Boccardi. “PPV.com – it’s an easy name to remember, and straight to the point.”
At least five of the six major events on the current PPV.com schedule come with a promotion. Three of the six shows are available on sports streaming service DAZN. The PPV option is for fans who are either leery of committing to a DAZN subscription or simply unaware of how to access the app. All three shows—Gennadiy Golovkin-Ryota Murata (April 9), Ryan Garcia-Emmanuel Tagoe (April 9), Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano (April 30)—will include one-month free subscription to DAZN, with such coupon code normally offered within a week of the purchased event.
Spence-Ugas is distributed and produced by Showtime. A recent online press conference hosted by Showtime Sports sports & event programming president Stephen Espinoza announced Spence-Ugas as one of nine events to fly under the network banner, and one of two Showtime-branded PPV events.
Espinoza fielded a question during the presser of whether either event would include any sport of promotion such as a free month of Showtime. The longtime network executive noted past promotions along those lines, while revealing the decision to instead offer more content on fight night itself. The four-fight PPV event will be preceded by a Showtime-televised doubleheader, to include the WBA ‘World’ welterweight title fight between defending secondary titleholder Radzhab Butaev (14-0, 11KOs) and unbeaten challenger Eimantas Stanionis (13-0, 9KOs). The winner of the fight will be the WBA mandatory challenger to whomever prevails between Spence and Ugas.
To watch both, fans will have to both subscribe to Showtime and purchase the PPV event itself. The latter now comes with the opportunity to attend a future show for free. Additionally, consumers who pre-order Spence-Ugas by April 10 will be automatically entered in a sweepstakes where two winners will receive a boxing glove autographed by Spence.
Spence-Ugas and all PPV.com events also include a feature that enables fans to create personalized, interactive experiences during the event, including interacting with other fans, posting comments, and uploading video selfies.
“We aim to bring extra value to our viewers in terms of content, interactivity, and value,” states Boccardi. “Whether it’s by attending a big-name event in person; winning a signed glove by one of the biggest names in boxing; or by participating in our hosted, interactive live chats during all of our PPV events.”
Spence—a 32-year-old southpaw from Desoto, Texas who represented the U.S. in the 2012 London Olympics—will attempt the sixth defense of the IBF welterweight title he claimed in a May 2017 knockout win over Kell Brook on the road in Sheffield, England. It will also mark Spence’s second unified WBC/IBF title defense, having achieved that status in a twelve-round win over Shawn Porter in their thrilling September 2019 unification bout.
The fight is the first for Spence since December 2020, when he outpointed former two-division titlist Danny Garcia at AT&T Stadium, which will also host the April 16 Showtime PPV event.
Ugas attempts his second WBA welterweight title defense. The 35-year-old Cuban boxer—who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics—claimed a secondary version of the title in a twelve-round win over Abel Ramos in September 2020, receiving an upgrade to WBA ‘Super’ champion last January. Ugas validated his reign in a competitive but clear points win over legendary Manny Pacquiao, replacing an injured Spence atop the August 21 Fox Sports PPV from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Crawford: I Give Spence The Edge, But Ugas Has What it Takes To Derail Him
"I have been the WBO champion for a long time and they have always treated me with great respect. They always open their arms to me and have shown me great hospitality. So, I'm just having fun right now,” Crawford told Antolin Rios.
“It's going to be a good fight. I give Spence a little bit of an edge, but, you know, that doesn't take any credit from Yordenis. I think he is a tremendous talent. I think he has what it takes to derail Spence. But who knows how that fight will go? I see a little advantage to Spence, but it will be a great fight,” Crawford said.
“Hopefully I can face the winner. If not, I want to move up and fight the winner of (Brian) Castano and (Jermell) Charlo."

Crawford and Spence need to stop faffing about, they are in their 30's and need to fight each other soon, or we'll get some kind of both past it battle like Khan vs Brook.

Press Release
Episode One of Emmy Award-Winning Series Premieres Saturday, April 2 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME®
SHOWTIME Sports has released the never-before-seen opening tease from the first episode of ALL ACCESS: SPENCE VS. UGAS, premiering Saturday, April 2 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME® in advance of the three-belt world title unification showdown between WBC and IBF World Champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. and WBA World Champion Yordenis Ugas set for Saturday, April 16 live on SHOWTIME PPV® from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The opening clip sets the stage for ALL ACCESS’ award-winning storytelling as both fighters open up about their complicated and ultimately fruitful journeys they had to navigate to reach this crucial moment. Spence speaks about his near-tragic automobile accident and eye injury that forced him to miss a career-defining opportunity against Manny Pacquiao, while Ugas describes his harrowing journey from Cuba to the United States.
The program peels back the curtain to illustrate the common trait the two champions share in abundance – resilience, and how they each persisted in the face of adversity to evolve as men and champions. As the show’s narrator Barry Pepper says in the closing moments of the clip, “Soon, it will be decided. Two champions who earned their resolve the hard way. What happens after you face death…and win?”
Episode one reveals a surprising lifestyle change Spence has made as he prepares for the fight with longtime trainer Derrick James and introduces viewers to both fighters’ biggest motivation to succeed, their children.
Episode two of the Emmy Award-winning series premieres Saturday, April 9, at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT. ALL ACCESS Epilogue will premiere on SHOWTIME the following Saturday, April 23, and will showcase fight week in Dallas as well as all the action inside the ropes on fight night and the immediate aftermath.

We are proud to break precedent,” said Stephen Espinoza, President, Sports & Event Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. “Adding high-stakes, compelling fights to an already strong undercard elevates what is sure to be a memorable night for boxing. SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING LINEUP
“I’m very ready and focused on this fight coming up on April 16,” said Ochoa. “I’m sure Lee will be ready too and that just makes me more motivated to be at my best. Trust me, this is a night boxing fans will not want to miss!”

Filming is underway in Dallas, revealing a surprising lifestyle change Spence has made as he prepares for the fight with longtime trainer Derrick James. Filming in Las Vegas has also begun, where Ugas is in training camp under renowned coach Ismael Salas.

Re: Errol Spence vs. Yordenis Ugas | Showtime PPV - April 16, 2022
Errol Spence Jr: I got a nutritionist and it’s made the weight cut much easier for me
Unified WBC and IBF Welterweight World Champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr., a Desoto, Texas-native, declared that he is “on point” physically during a media workout in Dallas on Thursday ahead of his 147-pound title unification clash against WBA Welterweight World Champion Yordenis Ugas taking place Saturday, April 16 live on SHOWTIME PPV in a Premier Boxing Champions event from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Responding to a statement made Wednesday by Ugas’ trainer Ismael Salas that he was a “different” fighter in his first fight back after a 2019 car accident, Spence smiled and said he was now in better shape physically and mentally and that Ugas’ trainer would soon see.
Just the 12th unification fight in the rich history of the welterweight division, Spence vs. Ugas will join other classic unification matchups at the weight class such as “Sugar” Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns I and Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao. Spence will look to add a third welterweight championship belt to his resume when he returns to fight at AT&T Stadium in front of his hometown fans for the third time.
Tickets for the April 16 live event at AT&T Stadium, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Man Down Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at SeatGeek.com, the Official Ticketing Provider of AT&T Stadium.
Spence held his media workout at World Class Boxing Gym alongside his longtime trainer Derrick James. The workout streamed live on the SHOWTIME Sports YouTube Channel and can be watched in its entirety HERE. Ugas hosted a live streamed media workout on Wednesday in Las Vegas, which can be watched HERE.
Here is what Spence and James had to say Thursday:
ERROL SPENCE JR.
“I’m feeling good and I’m ready to go. This layoff was easier for me after the injury than the one after the accident because it was a lot less stress on my body. Mentally I was also prepared for what I was going to go through. I had been back in training before camp started for this fight so I’m ready.
“Even half of me would beat most of these guys at the top level. I feel great now and I’m 100%. Physically I’m on point and everything feels real regular. If Ugas’ trainer (Ismael Salas) thinks I’m a different fighter now, we’ll see in two and half weeks how different I am.
“Training camp has been great. I’ve had great sparring partners and we’ve been focused. I got a nutritionist and it’s made the weight cut much easier for me.
“I have everything in my arsenal. Whatever Ugas brings to the table, I’m ready for it. I’m going to dictate the pace and control everything. I’m making him fight my fight.
“From what I’ve seen, Ugas is very physical and very tough. He was waving Shawn Porter forward, so you know he has that fighter spirit inside of him.
“I’ve been putting in a lot of work and I’m not worried about my eye at all. It actually feels stronger than the other one. I’m just making sure that I’m 100% on point with everything.
“I’m not looking to say anything to the rest of the division. I’m going to send my message with my performance. When I have three belts, everyone is going to know what that means.
“I watched the Ugas vs. Manny Pacquiao fight live but I haven’t watched it since then. I thought the way that fight went was more because of Pacquiao being a shell of himself.
“I’ve been looking forward to this fight since I had to drop out of the Pacquiao bout. I knew I would be fighting the winner, and now I’ve got Ugas in front of me. He’s a tough champion who’s been through a lot in his life.
“I can’t sit back and fight a tune-up fight right now. I want to go straight in with the sharks. Ugas is going to push me to another level and that’s what I want. I knew that if I was fighting a tune-up I could sneak snacks in at night and stuff like that. I’m fighting someone on my level.
“Ugas is living the ‘American Dream’ and he wants to keep living the ‘American Dream’. His challenge is beating me and I want his belt.
“Those Mexican fans are a huge part of Texas and I love fighting in front of them. I’m planning on giving them the kind of amazing fight they love.”
DERRICK JAMES, Spence’s Trainer
“Camp has been great. Errol’s working hard and looking strong. We’ve had some very quick, very sharp and physical sparring partners. They’re keeping him on his toes and when he isn’t coming 100%, they’ll let him know it.
“I think the only difference with Errol between the Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia fights was the strategy and fight style he was using. Errol is doing great. We haven’t even thought about the eye. It’s not an issue.
“Errol has known this fight was coming for a long time, so he’s been training for months and months and has been prepared mentally.
“I never think about a matchup with a trainer but I’m excited to be up against a great trainer. He took down Manny Pacquiao so we’re going to be 100% ready.
“To be able to have Errol fight at AT&T Stadium is amazing because it just shows his progression and maturation as a fighter. For a young fighter like Errol, it’s a dream come true. We can’t wait.
“Other than the fight, that ring walk at AT&T Stadium is the best part of the fight. To go out there and be embraced by the fans like that, it’s crazy. It’s going to be a special moment on April 16.
“You’re going to see Errol in his top form in this fight. He’s coming to handle business. We’re not taking Ugas for granted at all. He’s very smart and has a great corner. We’re going to go skill for skill. There’s a true prize to be attained in this one.”

Are Crowley/Josesito and Butaev/Stanionis both eliminators? Nice add with Brandun Lee.

Re: Errol Spence vs. Yordenis Ugas | Showtime PPV - April 16, 2022
Spence: "I Got Into Another Car Accident 3 Months Later; My Insurance Company Kicked Me Out"
“I actually got into another accident three months after my accident,” Spence said. “Somebody hit me from behind. … It shook me up a little bit, but like it’s really hard to just really get like – I’m always even keel. So, it shook me up, like, ‘That’s messed up.’ But like my insurance company kicked me off my insurance because it was a G-Wagon. It was like, ‘He messed up a Ferrari.’ And then I had a [Mercedes-Benz] G-Wagon, 4-by-4. So, they came out of [pocket] like $600,000 in like five, six months, because they paid me outright for both of the cars. … Yeah, they kicked me out the insurance.”
“When I was driving like I’d have like different flashes of like a car just running into me while I’ll be at a red light,” Spence said. “And I’d just have flashes of a car hitting me and getting in car crashes all the time, when I was just driving down the street or at a red light or anything. So yeah, definitely, PTSD is definitely a real thing because I was just having flashes all of like getting in accidents 24/7. I still have ‘em sometimes, like when I’m driving.”
