Suppose if you want to pay for it then fair enough , Only time i would watch him is if my mate rang me up and said , Heh , Ricky Hattons coming down the gym next monday for a move around with a couple of my lads , come on down and watch the sparring .
Its horses for courses ,, lad who i trained from being 13 till the pro's , his dad is a boxing fan or at least he was when his lads were boxing and he always chased these things where name boxers were he' would pay to go listen to them at dinners ect , usually come back with winning the auction of a signed pic , pair of gloves or something , spending money he really did'nt earn and could'nt afford .

Always got his pic took with them , arms round each other fists up sort of thing ,, they get prize spot blew up on his bar , and he tells storys when people are around of them has if they were his best mates. I sit there listening ,to his stories shaking my head and think is it sad or funny
Reminds me of a chippy in York I used to go to with a whole wall of photos of boxers, sometimes with the owner. The highlight was a photo of him grinning broadly while shaking hands with Lennox Lewis, who is looking the other way having a conversation with someone out of shot
Where?

It’s because prices are mental… factor in food, travel and booze (it’s 6-50 for plastic shite pint at MEN) and it’s an expensive night… especially for those that don’t earn too much money (me).

Through Boxxer, you could get good lower tier seats for £47.50 as the top wasn't open.

If its for the fans then the tickets should be free or minimum enough to just cover costs (venue hire, security, staff etc)

Just admit yiu want a bit of easy money. Always had Hatton pegged as a closet prick.

Do people do this to try and look like their friends with the boxers?

Like if you ask about it, he'd say "Yeah, i know Lennox" and act like they were old sparring partners when in reality Lennox doesn't know his name or remember their encounter?

Guy i'm talking about he definetly does that , lost count of the amount of times i've heard him tell storys about his mate or how he knew such and such quite well ... after he's been to there book signing or whatever, but not just boxers , he plays darts with me , were in the bottom team of the lowest division in other words were useless , but he tells storys of when he used to play against Eric Bristow , Jockey Wilson in competitions and quite often beat them

How exactly were Hattons show working with the Hughie Fury card?

I`ve not followed this too much. But from my initial understanding Hattons show was a mix of bands with Hatton sparring Barrera topping it off ... is Hughie Fury merely been added to this? Bit of a knock to Hattons ego if a supporting bout getting cancelled is enough to derail his initial show.

Has Barrera even been promoting the show?

The show was Hatton headlining with some random undercard fights (Dan Hardy, a U.K. former UFC fighter was boxing an exhibition against Diego Sanchez, a top UFC fighter from 10 years or so ago. Dan had said the exhibition purse was more than any UFC purse he received). As Mick said, it performed awfully at the box office. I think they did probably something like 3,000 tickets. There would have barely covered the costs of the arena etc let alone the fighter costs and leaving some for Ricky at the end.

I don’t know the details but they did a deal with Boxxer to have the Boxxer show (including undercard) added to this. It would mean Ricky didn’t need to pay as much to bolster the undercard, they’d probably split the cost of the MEN etc and Boxxer wouldn’t need to have to find another arena where Hughie would likely be a tough sell.

Originally Sky were just planning on showing the Boxxer fights I.e. none of the exhibitions but last week it was announced that they’d show Ricky’s fight too.

Boxxer announced Fury’s injury and said the whole show was being postponed but that seems to be news to Ricky.

It may well be that they just looked at all the costs of the show and realised that the slow ticket sales plus Sky rights fee wasn’t going to cover it so decided to pull the plug. I’d be surprised though and I think Fury probably is legit unwell (he’s a growing lad which likely makes him more susceptible to things).

Probably tough on Hatton’s ego that he is reliant on Hughie Fury for his ‘fight’ to go ahead.

He probably assumed this would be a sellout with Stubhub reselling for x3 face value. That was before Fury got added.

In his own arena… to sell so bad must hurt; never mind the fact that Ricky has come out and said he’s not decided what to do with the fight (go with postponing or go stand alone).

My guess is he won’t have a choice; he’s just trying to save face.

Guy should’ve got in shape to do a sub 4 hour 42km run; not use it as an excuse to rekindle old times.

Yep. Must hurt for he ego but people need to be realistic. It’s tough enough to sell good fights on the whole let alone 2 great boxers just having a glorified spar. He’d have been better off just doing in a much smaller place and charging a fortune for the tickets so his rich/celeb mates can take the cost.

I think Hatton just needed a goal to get in shape and drop the weight so needed a fight

Manchester Arena is a big place to fill at the best of times even with the top tier curtained off .
I’ve recently took up offers on late very well discounted tickets at that venue to fill up empty seats ( Gregory Porter & Steve Coogan ) .
Freebies were even available for Barry Manilow there tonight ! ( no I’ve not took that offer up ! )
No real comparison but an indication of the times and the lack of disposable income around where choices may have to be made.

It’s a tough sell for two former greats , well past their prime with Ricky the wrong side of 40 and Barrera pushing 50 .
His popularity and selling power quite clearly over estimated and nothing remotely like back in the day .
The addition of Hughie Fury brings very little to the sales - I was at his world title challenge against Parker and there was hardly anyone in the venue who had not received a complimentary ticket ! We were asked to move nearer the ring for the main event !

How do you go about getting complimentary tickets ?

How do you go about getting complimentary tickets ?
[/quote]
I’m fortunate enough to have an excellent close connection within the sport who is well aware of my interest and willingness to attend events at short notice. I’m simply not prepared to pay what I consider stupid money to sit ringside or up in the gods .Quite frankly I can’t justify some of amounts paid out .
Absolutely nothing guaranteed ( some no chance ) but usually he has a good indication of how the ticket sales have gone and what might be available.
I normally get a phone call or text the day before ,after a weigh in to see if I’m in luck.
It’s quite common practice for various events to either sell at a more affordable price on certain websites or to give complimentary tickets to those in the sport to fill up gaps in the crowd.
The Fury/Parker one my contact gave me four and talking to others in the crowd it was quite clear very few had paid . I recall Ticket touts we’re almost giving them away that night as we approached the venue .

Thanks :TU:

It appears to be dead in the water then. Hatton no longer able to draw a crowd - no shame there after all these years. Has his sons career diminished Hattons in some way by connection??

If this was really 'for the fans' then he could have done something around the local pubs for £20 each with Barrera in tow. I'm sure that would have covered expenses for both.
