I always found him quite helpful, but during my time he was still under Simon Block.

I always found him helpful, fair and a nice bloke.
I also saw him plenty of times at shows when I was fighting and as a spectator, he always came over for a chat and to ask me how I was doing.
He was a decent fighter too, he knows the game.
This is exactly my argument with Robert Smith. He knows the game and is an ex pro but imo,hardly ever uses that experience when making decisions. A lot of things get swept under the carpet imo

Robert smith can only do and say what the stewards of the board allow him to do so in my opinion a lot of the criticisms of him are unjustified and unfair

As am ex member of the board you are bound to say that.
He is one of an increasing number of people who feels ONLY those that have boxed are entitled to opinions on boxing.
An extremely arrogant individual who is completely out of touch with the fans.
It is my view the board should get together and vote in favour of “no confidence” in Robert Smith.

Yeah that’s a fair comment but I carnt see it happening can you ? If they were to get rid of him there would have to be a massive redundancy package mate !

Basically he knows they carnt afford to get rid of him etc and also he takes all the flack for the stewards who pull his strings

Boxing has benefited with regards to its popularity to the various forms of social media outlets.
But as soon as boxing is shown in a bad light and there is “kick off” for example fans giving their opinions on poor judging, Robert Smith is in my view very dismissive.
Time and time again Smith has been seen to say … the board will look into this, yet nothing is ever done.
Boxing should be transparent in its rules, investigations and complaints but it is completely out of touch.

Just read the article in BN and have to be honest and say i"m hugely disappointed in Matt Christie for giving Smith a complete pass. Claims the BBC of C were "left with a difficult, almost impossible choice" are just nonsense. Tries to defend the eventual decision by saying that going ahead would have opened them up to "criticism from the rest of the country", just has zero substance behind it... I genuinely can't think of a single bit of criticism aimed at those sports that did go ahead (and the multiple governing bodies behind them that somehow were able to make the right 'impossible' decision).

This event was pretty unprecedented and I for one was pretty at ease with Smith's decision. I think given Boxing stance on Covid (whether you agree with that one or not) I was fully expecting the fight to be cancelled and I know people who did other sports on the weekend (e.g. The Tenby Ironman) - that while they were absolutely ecstatic that they hadn't "wasted" a couple of years of training - where also EXPECTING to see an announcement of it being cancelled.

Stu, the point is that:
a) Nearly every other sporting body proved able to make the right decision despite the "unprecedented" circumstances.
b) The argument used to justify it was proven to be verifiably false.
