If its only a couple months delay then i don't see him taking a tune up.

Wouldn't be surprised if Yarde and Tunde decide to sit it out until Beterbiev's ready

Beterbiev Trainer Insists Injury is ‘Minor’; Would Be Able To Return To Ring In November Or December

Artur Beterbiev won’t be laid up for too long, it appears, even if it means his next fight will be postponed into the new year.

In a recent Boxing Scene report, it was noted that the Montreal-based Russian native and unified light heavyweight champion (WBC, WBO, IBF) would not be fighting mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde of England in October at the O2 Arena in London as originally planned because of a previously undisclosed injury. That fight now may not take place until early 2023. Beterbiev had a previous fight—against Adam Deines in 2020—postponed because of a rib injury, but it does not appear that his latest wound will keep him out of the ring for too long.

Marc Ramsay, the trainer of Beterbiev, indicated recently that the injury itself is not serious, saying that his charge underwent a minor right knee operation shortly after his last fight, a second-round demolition job of Joe Smith Jr. at the Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden in June.

“It wasn’t even arthroscopic surgery, it was just to clean out the interior (of his knee),” Ramsay told Le Journal de Montreal last week. “Some of the tissue had deteriorated over time. It was really a minor thing. After the operation, he took two weeks off and he has already returned to training.”

Ramsay told Le Journal that he is waiting on a new fight date from Top Rank, the Las Vegas-based company that promotes Beterbiev. Ramsay pushed back against the idea that Beterbiev would not be able to fight until next year. Ramsay is hopeful that Beterbiev can fight Yarde, his WBO mandatory, in November or December. Yarde is promoted by allegedly of Queensberry Promotions.

“Artur has already returned to the gym,” Ramsay said. “I saw what had been written in the American media. They seemed to have exaggerated a bit … He can easily fight in November or December.”

“Reading all that, they make it seem like this is a Carey Price situation,” Ramsey joked, referring to the potentially season-ending knee injury to the goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens hockey team.

Ramsay pointed out that the surgery was successful and that Beterbiev did not experience any pain. Ramsay says he is pleased with Beterbiev’s current progress.

“It went relatively well,” Ramsay said of the operation. “As a trainer, it was I who pushed the date back to be sure. We started out (training) gradually in the last several weeks. He started lifting and then went into basic boxing exercises. When we go into the intensive zone, we will see what he looks like. For the time being, we are optimistic.”

With the World Cup and also lack of venues, I'm assuming we are looking at February or more likely March now. I hope Frank gets Yarde a reasonable fight to shake off the rust before the end of the year.

Maybe it's minor, but the injury news might be a small glimmer of hope for Yarde, that he can catch an ageing Beterbeiv at the right time.

There’s still over 4 months left of the year and Beterbiev is back in light training. I appreciate that the mooted October date is off the cards but no need to wait 6 months! If Frank can’t do it in the U.K. then they should do it in the states. I’d be surprised if Beterbiev is happy waiting until Feb/March.

Beterbiev will comphrensively take Yarde apart

How Yarde a fighter who has never beaten anybody above domestic/journeyman level has managed to get 2 world title opportunities is a mystery.

Or an example of boxing corruption at it's finest.

Joe Smith would take Yarde apart and he's just been destroyed by Beterbiev.

It's a disgraceful mis-match. Unless Beterbiev is drugged or drunk he can't lose.

With the money that Beterbiev & Yarde will be on it will have to go off on PPV. There’s no market for the fight in the states, which is why Im assuming Arum is keen to send Artur over.

So they need a window for that, plus the WC and lack of venues, and the possibility of Fury-Usyk, there is zero chance they can do it this year. BrickTop mentioned January today, but that’s a very odd month as most people are skint from Christmas, but let’s see.

Beterbiev has been quite inactive over the years, plus they already had the date which was missed because of his injury, so I would be surprised if they made any noise about fighting next year.

I don't see how this fight is financially viable in the near future, in the UK. Has Yarde's supposed TV popularity translated to ticket sales? We've already got numerous PPVs on the horizon, all of which I can see selling better than this.

This is a great fight. Yard surely won’t try box with him. Yarde and Bert in a rumble is excellent entertainment, I’d be shocked if this lasts past 4 rounds, probably Yarde taking the nap but no garentee who.

He put up a decent show in his previous world title fight and there’s every chance he’ll put up a better show in this one than Beterbiev’s previous opponent did.

This fight looks to be pushed back to February 2023.

Yarde is expected to have a warm-up on Nov 26th at the O2 Arena.

It’s actually for the best. Let Beterbiev age as much as possible and maybe the injuries catch up with him also, otherwise Yarde is getting shelled.
