How can you be marketable if most of the world wouldn't have a clue who you were if you walked down the street ?
I wouldn't recognise Naomi Osaka either, but it doesn't mean she ain't marketable.

It’s kind of weird reading people doing mental gymnastics to try to get this to make sense
Katie Taylor is not, in reality, the most marketable boxer in the world, by any measurable metric.
totally, a strange one. so she doesnt sell nearly like the others but she's far more bland, great argument

I can’t believe some people are trying to justify this list.
95% of the population wouldn’t recognise Katie Taylor. The argument ends there.
It doesn’t matter if there is one or two niche products she would work well for.
Overall, across a range of products, she would not generate anywhere near the publicity of others.
What fee would she command compared to AJ?

I don’t think anyone would dispute that she’d generate far less publicity than many other boxers.
Strangely though that’s not all what some companies look for as their ads will get eyeballs regardless of who’s in it. Many big companies are choosing now to work with women sportspeople over men to actively show their diversity and she’s clean cut and inoffensive.

That just isn’t true though, when looking at the actual real world

This thread is ridiculous

It’s basically the equivalent of people arguing “a Ford Focus is the best car in the world, because it’s inoffensive. Lamborghinis and Ferraris just can’t compete with that. Never mind that they are much more expensive and have far better performance, that’s irrelevant”

Nice way of putting that.

There’s a ton of companies looking to prove their diversity credentials.
Not sure we’re going to see her on a box of cornflakes any time soon.

I own a Ford Focus, it’s actually what I say to people

Just because some companies might work with Katie on that basis, doesn’t make her the most marketable boxer in the world!
She just isn’t, on any sensible measure, and I don’t see the logic of anybody arguing otherwise!
More importantly, why has my post reappeared dated yesterday?! I made it weeks ago!!

there's an option to bump threads if you're the threadstarter, which then make it look like the last post was just posted. ruthy evidently did that
