Closer this gets the more I think Wood has made a bad call and Lara does him. I think Lara just has proper knockout power and is quite vicious, might even be a proper hood belt holder for a while.

I’ve been away this week and promised my girl we’d go for late Valentines this Saturday instead and I’ll be watching on my phone in the restaurant and end up getting told to sleep on the couch and will deffo be free to post about it, at least.

"I just saw Mauricio Lara in there. It sounded like someone was getting shot. Those left hooks pinging in there," Hearn told iD Boxing.

"Leigh Wood looks in tremendous shape and ready to fight. Leigh is nearly 3/1 in this fight. It's madness. I can't believe it. It's a 50-50 fight.

"People keep saying, 'Mauricio Lara, Leigh Wood late,' but really, I think Leigh should be the slight favourite in this fight."

Hearn added: "He's coming off a win over [Michael] Conlan; he's the home fighter, he's got 9,000 fans cheering him on, but Lara is very dangerous.

"How good is Maurcio Lara? We know he's dangerous, but Leigh Wood and Ben Davison see something."

Hearn does point out that Lara is going to be "so dangerous" in the early rounds against Wood.

"We're so lucky to have this fight. With experience," Hearn continued.

"Don't forget, Leigh Wood is a massive puncher. He [Lara] got hurt in his last fight, the one before.

"Leigh thinks he can take him out. Lara is going to be so dangerous early."

Wood's the world champ, can't be ducking dangerous foes, Lara has been creased in a round mind

There's often a weird, implied criticism of the matchmaking when UK fighters start as the underdog against an overseas opponent.

Wood's a top 10 featherweight, this is exactly the type of fight he should be having. If he loses, at least he aspired to more than beating Kiko.

:salut: I thought that as soon as the fight was announced. Lara is all wrong for Wood.
If he does survive the first 4-5 rounds and isn't too far behind with KD's etc, he may be able to turn around a points win, but even if he does manage that, Lara is going to put lots of miles on Woods odometer by the end.

Yeh Leigh’s definitely gonna be walking a tightrope sat night, he can punch though, and Lara’s not bulletproof, but the Mex seems to have the extra TNT …

I’m not complaining about the match up, it’s a great fight!! but when your man has just won his world title in a life and death fight of the year, it’s unusual you right away throw him into such a violent first defence. Normally you get a money earner winnable defence, then it’s crunch time. Unless it’s an overdue mandatory waiting his shot…

I guess Woods is no draw, so it’s Eddie cashing in because he needs to, and taking a gamble at the same time.

I don't know, the Gamal Yafai fight should be entertaining and action packed, and Dalton Smith - well agreed its pretty poor for his second defence of the British, as was his first.
Heck, I've fast forwarded through a lot worse lately!

Lara's team acting up a bit after Wood got off the scales. Hearn gave them a load of verbals.

I watched the weigh-in on Youtube on my lunch break(with less than 500 others, one of those metrics that show you the limited audience Matchroom is actually going to these days).

Lara looks very very tight at the weight. He was chugging away on drinks for a good while afterwards.

I had Lara as favourite beforehand, but not sure now.

Reports are that he was on the treadmill yesterday evening. He does look tight but I think he always does.

Both have been hurt with bodyshots in the past. I think if Wood can get past the first 2-3 rounds and invests in the body shots then he can get Lara out of there.

Buzzing for it now.
