it's true, cant hate him at all, he's just playing the role that's been made available to him by how boxing is in this country. changing that to make things more competitive is up to ppl with more power than him

Shouldn't he at least be trying to win? Isn't he in essence, throwing this fight?

Sharp clearly loves the feeling of punches whistling past his head.

What does this really teach Fletcher though? He’s not going to encounter this style again if he steps up. They’d have been better getting a heavyweight journeyman who can actually rough him up a little bit.

Not sure this fight should be on television live. It should have been a prelim.

the system is set up for him to fight like he is now and get the greatest reward from it that way. if there were stricter requirements on matchmaking and performance level he'd be forced to give it more of a go

I admire him - gave away a foot and 2.5 stone of natural weight and never looked like getting stopped.

ya the usa has a totally different type of journeyman scene and their guys usually give it more of a go or get pulled in, very rare to see anything like a 100+ loss record there. there are still loads of mismatches there, but usually more lively

i dont think the individual journeymen here should get any blame though, it's the way the system is set up and they are just acting rationally by approaching it as they do

Surely all boxers start off with the dream and hopes of being a champion...
At what point does one become that kind of journeyman....

Ahh shite, another loss...okay I won't be a champ but I don't mind being beaten up for a few hundred quid a pop....

maybe when they find out instead of having to sell tickets and fight for free to get a win, they can make pounds just by covering up and going rounds. kind of like finding out the cold hard reality of the world you once dreamed of.

obviously if you're good enough to make it at a high level it's better to be a winner, but lower down it makes sense. pounds pay the bills, but wins only pay the ego for many pros

I've even seen guys who's primary focus is just, not getting stopped or cut. The way a lot of these U.K. guys are, and even they will still wind up giving a better effort.

I seem to recall some Cruiserweight who basically stank the joint out on ESPN 2 years back, he had a .500 record or something near it, and was clearly the guy that was supposed to lose. If I recall he won basically just by shutting down the guys offense, and jabbing him all night. Wasn't exciting, but he legitimately shut down the Prospects offense, and beat him with jabs.

I actually think most U.S. Boxing commissions would strip your license if you had 10 losses in a row. Seems like I've heard that somewhere before.
