Contract chaos continues with resolution still not reached days before fight
Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron are reportedly yet to reach a resolution over their contract dispute, six days out from fight night.
Cameron informed talkSPORT two weeks ago that Whittaker's promotional outfit, BOXXER, was trying to reduce the number of rounds for their Easter Sunday rematch to 10 despite him already signing to compete in 12.
It was later disclosed that an 'administrative error' had led to both men receiving different contracts: Whittaker for a 10-round fight and Cameron for a 12-rounder.
According to Ring Magazine, the issue is still ongoing as of Monday.
A source involved in the deal told the Bible of Boxing: “Roundgate is still in full swing. We need a resolution soon.”
When Ben Shalom joined talkSPORT last week, he revealed that Cameron's team were still haggling for a better deal despite BOXXER agreeing to fork out a considerable compensation fee to change his agreement to 10 rounds.
"It's a 10-round fight," said Shalom. "In the first instance, there was an admin error in the office with the paperwork.
"I think it was a couple of days when it was noticed, and to be honest, as sensible partners, I thought it'd be all worked out quickly, and it seemed like it was getting worked out.
"They wanted extra money and compensation, and we agreed to that, and we felt like we moved on from that.
"Since Liam's interview [with talkSPORT], I've spoken to George Warren, and George had agreed on the terms to get it done.
"They're agreeing on something, and then looking to draw it out as long as possible.
"And that's what's happened now a couple of times. They want to play games. They want to mess around.
"I think Liam is being told ultimately what to say. But it is a 10-round fight, and I agreed that in writing last week.
"We actually were demanded to make a ridiculous request, to make a payment into the Board and lodge the payment.
"We had a deadline of last week, we did that. And so at the end of the day, it's a 10-round fight...
"Ultimately, our mistake is an expensive mistake that has cost me money.
"I'm holding my hands up to that, it's nothing to do with Ben Whittaker. But it has been dealt with."

Re: Ben Whittaker vs. Liam Cameron II | Sky Sports - 20 April 2025
Shalom was vague enough to me to signal it wasn’t sorted. He certainly implied it was sorted by saying things like we’ve lodged money with the board, we’ve agreed financials, if Cameron doesn’t want it we’ll find someone else etc but I don’t think he ever said that they’ve got a formal signed deal for 10 rounds.coneye wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 09:54Interview , i seen with Shalom , a few days ago , he said its been resolved , admits there was a stuff up and blamed the lawyers , he also said its been sorted , its cost him money , he's paid the extra they wanted and its officialy been changed to 10 rnds .. Frank is playing it perfectly. It helps promote his fighter, may impact a competitor for ticket sales (will people on the fence buy if there’s some doubt about the fight?) and with it being left so long they’ve got Boxxer over a barrel to pay more to amend the deal.

I like both these fighters. I put Whittaker's antics that make him unpopular down to a lack of self-confidence rather than over-confidence and I hope he can get control of that. I think Whittaker probably wins but his handlers screwed up matching him with Liam so early in his pro career even if they do want to rush him on at 27.

I don’t think his handlers did screw up in terms of the matchmaker. Cameron was a commonwealth title fight level fighter (nothing wrong with that) at weights below light heavy and then had an extended period out of the ring before coming back and his best result is a fairly close lose to Lyndon Arthur.Jimmy2025 wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 11:52 I like both these fighters. AJ fought uneaten Whyte after as similar time of turning pro and Degale fought 29-1 Paul Smith for the British after a similar time period.
For Whittaker I think he partly underestimated Cameron, partly over estimated his own ability and from what I’ve seen and heard perhaps doesn’t have the heart for it when things get tough.
Dom Ingle said he had one of his guys spar Whittaker when Ben was an amateur and Ben looked awesome early doors but then stopped the spar early just as things got more competitive. You can get away with that fighting 3 rounds. Not 10 though and probably explains why they’re not willing to do 12 and would rather pay a load of money to avoid it.

I just hope there's not a danger Cameron might underestimate Whittaker this time who will know last time he bailed, whether that's spooked him and done some psychological damage or whether he uses that to drive him to correct the mistakes, I want Cameron to win I just hope he's better this time too and is expecting a better Ben Whittaker

The switch to Andy Lee might help with a fresh mindset and some new tricks. Also Andy is great to have in your corner come fight time
It is definitely an intriguing rematch and I'm not a big fan of rematches*
* Also looking forward to the Allen Fisher fight

Re: Ben Whittaker vs. Liam Cameron II | Sky Sports - 20 April 2025
Depends why he bailed. In a non-boxing situation I failed something really badly once because I was unfit (relatively) and it probably looked to others that I spewed it. I did and I didn't. I objectively knew I didn't have the conditioning I needed and stopped. Could I have done more? Yes. Would it have made any difference? No. I went away, trained differently and harder and the thing I had failed became very easy (again, relatively) next time around. In short there's a difference between quitting because you are objectively and measurably unfit and quitting because you aren't mentally hard IMO.handsofstone wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 14:25 I just hope there's not a danger Cameron might underestimate Whittaker this time who will know last time he bailed, whether that's spooked him and done some psychological damage or whether he uses that to drive him to correct the mistakes, I want Cameron to win I just hope he's better this time too and is expecting a better Ben Whittaker

That’s not to say he can’t win the rematch. He can fight a lot better than he did.
Re: Ben Whittaker vs. Liam Cameron II | Sky Sports - 20 April 2025
I cant see how one fighter has got a 10 round contract and the other a 12. The contracts would be virtually identical apart from their names and purses and a few other details. The rest of the blurb would be a copy and paste for both fighters so someone is telling porkies.
how has 10 got changed to 12 or vice versa. it just doesn't make sense.

What a way to earn a few extra £££ for nothing. Rookie mistake from Shalom and he got stung. Hope some of that money found it's way into Liam's pocket too
Re: Ben Whittaker vs. Liam Cameron II | Sky Sports - 20 April 2025
Big Fraze getting back in the saddle has gone under the radar. Shouldn't take more than a round or two to see off Tetteh but it'll be interesting to see how he carries himself this week, the manner of his loss to Wardley must have taken a toll psychologically.

First round KO losses can often be devastating to a guys career so fair play for Boxxer for getting him back out so quick.

Re: Ben Whittaker vs. Liam Cameron II | Sky Sports - 20 April 2025
You’d think that Ben should win the rematch here, I mean surely all the experts who were saying that he’s the next big thing can’t have been that wrong?
He’s got the money behind him, state-of-the-art gym and top-class sparring you presume, and he’s looking for the magic dust lucky charm of Tyson Fury’s trainer to see him over the line.
One thing a humiliating performance like that can result in is a massive determination not to let it happen again ..I mean if he loses this, where does he go? His career is in the dumper. He’s got a lot more to lose than Cameron, so that might be the difference
Although I imagine Frank is desperate to get one over on boxxer here, and he’s probably bringing in quality sparring for Cameron too.
One thing Ben appears to be lacking is the big punch to hold Cameron off him
