The Sport has been on life support for 30 years.

I don't really see too many ways in the modern world that it's audience could grow again to be honest. Not unless Streaming platforms just like in the old days of cable decide it's easier and cheaper to make deals with Boxing promoters than say the MLB or NBA or whatever.

But then you'll have some fighters here fighting for this guy. Some fighters over there fighting for that guy, and the waiting game for the big fights, as has become the norm.

That kinda sh*t is what's not gonna allow Boxing to bounce back. The big game doesn't take 5 or 10 years to happen in any of the other sports.

The media has been saying boxing’s dying for over 100 years. I did think MMA was the biggest threat for years as it seemed to have grabbed the youth market… but I’m not sure now. Boxing has several advantages over other fighting sports - 1. Its rich history 2. Boxing is featured in the sports pages in a way other fighting sports aren’t 3. Boxing is easy to understand - punch someone in the face more times and more effectively than a opponent (a simplification I know) - it’s not as complex as MMA 4. Bizarrely I actually think the misfits style boxing, whilst offensive to the hard core, actually brings in youngsters’ interest 5. There are loads of boxing keep fitters and white collar gyms out there which draws in interest. Everyone loves boxing training it’s more interesting, easier and fun than say wrestling or jiujitsu

I genuinely believe, despite its problems, boxing is in a pretty healthy state.

It's not, though. Look at the crowds the big shows still get over here. I agree it could go that way soon as this era of fighters retire.

Yeah it'll never go away, but it'll also probably remain pretty much as it is now. A niche thing, and that's alright. As long as it's around. I just hope there's always some sorta platform for it. I can't imagine the DAZN model will work forever.

Yeah boxing always flourishes when there are big names especially heavyweights…. And maybe that’s the problem. Once Fury / Joshua / Usyk are completely done who will carry the mantle? Itauma probably needs a bit more charisma to become an international name. The stone faced deadpan approach and lack of controversy might hold him back.
If Richard Torrez gets significantly better he can grab headlines he’s very sellable.
Opetaia would be great but he suffers from the same issue as Itauma.

That's a good point :TU:
And is also true for the lower weights.
Bud, Canelo, Davis are all past the sell by date. Maybe Crawford has another year.
Who's coming up to fill their shoes?
Maybe PPV will implode on it's self, just because there haven't been any stars developed for mainstream appeal?

Great points - who are the up and comers to fill in the gaps?
In the UK we have Itauma, Wardley, Pat Brown maybe…. What’s happening in the US and overseas? Shakur just lacks excitement. Richard Torrez likely isn’t good enough…. Gilberto Ramirez - overrated. Benavidez? Lacks some star power. I think we’ll go through a down period in boxing but someone usually comes through…. Let’s hope so!

@DAZNBoxing has today launched a new ULTIMATE subscription, which will include pay-per-views at no extra cost along with 185+ fights from across the world each year 🥊

Available for £22.99/month up until Dec. 1 and then from £24.99/month.

Isn’t that how much you pay for a normal sub?

Yeah just saw this, currently costs below. The ultimate plan doesn’t seem to bad when you consider Sky Sports a similar price. Maybe see if any Black Friday deals too

The monthly “flexible” plan (cancel any time) is £24.99/month.

The 12-month contract plan (paid monthly) is £14.99/month

One-off annual payment: £119.99 upfront for the year

Works out £9.99 a month

Are all these for the ultimate pack?

£24.99 a month, is like 1 ppv cost. they saying minimum 12 ppv's a year.. but half the stuff they put on ppv is regular sub standard a the best of times.

and we still get the regular dazn shows too?

Looks like they scrapped some of the plans, looking on their site I can only see Ultimate Plan (£22.99 month) or Standard Plan (£14.99 month)

Can't see the one off payment anymore

Edit, my bad, you can get Ultimate for a off fee of £229.99 so that works out £19.16 a month (saving of £45.89 over year) and includes a minimum of 12 PPV fights.

I'm a massive boxing nerd and my days of booze, drugs and wild spending are behind me. Christ, in the dark days, I used to blow £250 an eight of Bolivian and do it all in one night - more fool me. I know it's a lot of money, but for the hours and hours of enjoyment, I'll definitely pay what equates to 63p per day. I sometimes stream a PPV, but they aren't reliable and a colleague has a firestick which let him down just as Usyk and Fury got the ring. Reluctantly and under protest, yeah, I'm in.

Buying unknown is risky, could be a load of poor PPV's which would normally be on normal DAZN

this is what I said.

The quality isn’t even that good already for most ppv’s

Is this gonna just be Turki ppv’s? Or are we getting Matchroom/Queensberry too.

But what isn’t clear, will there will be other PPVs that aren’t included in the above that you still need to pay for even when you have the Ultimate plan?

This what I’m wondering. Cus before they said they will do a special price for Riyadh season and Ring cards.

This didn’t include Frank and Eddie

Maybe the Ultimate customers will get a discount on other bigger PPVs? The likelihood is the PPVs included shouldn’t be PPV in the first place and include misfit cards that are being sold as PPV that most boxing fans wouldn’t pay for. The only PPV that is being mentioned as included that might interest some is the Benn/Eubank rematch and Yarde/Benivdez fight.

I hate to sound too pessimistic, but there will definitely be PPV's on top, maybe not at first - but the DAZN modus operandi is to lure you into a deal, then whack extras on top. And then put the deal's price up.

DAZN Ultimate is just what DAZN was supposed to be when it first launched.

There's not many more dishonest companies in the World than DAZN, and I can't imagine they'll last much longer with the way they operate.

Yeah I don't doubt it, the fact they haven't said 'you never have to pay for a PPV again' suggests there will be others excluded, you would hope you'd get those cheaper if you are a Ultimate subscriber.
