Tbf though I think my comment was a bit below the belt, obviously the vast majority of Liverpudlians are decent folk just like folk everywhere. There are always gonna be a minority of clowns who spoil it for everyone else.

That said, we’ve come a long way since the 80s and the scenes at Hagler Minter for example, this paled into insignificance compared with that
It always feels like one step forward and two back with us. I know I’m playing up to a stereotype by waxing lyrical about Scousers, always going on about ourselves….

For every good comedian, actor, band, footballer or fighter we have, it feels like every single one of them is a dickhead moment waiting to happen.

To be fair, I’ve seen scenes like that at a Coked-Up Christening on Easter Sunday, but that stuff usually isn’t on a DAZN broadcast

Some finish from Figueroa, I had Ball a point up going into the last, it didn't look like Figueroa was gonna get a KO, Ball was busy early, landing his jab, catching Figueroa with uppercuts, Figueroa fought mainly southpaw, was in front of Ball but not as active as he usually is, he did look like he was closing the gap down the stretch but the finish came out of nowhere, poleaxed Ball with a left hand, Ball badly hurt and couldn't avoid the follow up, Figueroa putting him down through the ropes, pretty big upset

I suppose people were made they'd lost their bets, or perhaps just upset that the hometown boy got beat. It was a great battle though.

Figueroa looks more world level than Ball, who has done well considering his physical disadvantages.

The finish last night was quality, that's how you seal a performance. After watching Kelly get a hometown decision last week, I was dreading another.

Anyone seen the Robles interview saying when they arrived at the venue Ball’s hands were already wrapped and the WBA wouldn’t do anything? Ditto Ball an hour late for weigh in

Did people think the Cain fight stoppage was dodgy? Cain was down twice and given every chance, Gonzalez down once and waved off albeit his eye was bad. Seemed very poor refereeing.

Also anyone know why FW wasn’t there?

That’s just standard practice in boxing - home fighter gets given every chance (sometimes even to the point of being dangerous), away fighter gets stopped at the first sign of trouble. It’s not right, but has been the way for as long as I can remember and can’t see it ever changing.

A Scouser is a person from Liverpool. You can use Scouse as the adjective. I love my city and the people from here but we’re never far away from someone doing something embarrassing and at times I find it hard to defend.
I get ya. It's not uncommon for a lot of drunken fans to be rowdy in support of their hometown guy.

If Ball's hands were wrapped in some sorta way that was giving him extra oomph on his punches, and he was still the guy who wound up KO'd that'd be pretty funny.

Kinda like when Vargas tested positive for steroids against De La Hoya, and then still lost.

Yeah, legitimate gripes from Robles, who seemed like a decent guy. These are the dangers of fighting as the away fighter. You need an experienced cornerman who has experience in hostile environments.

Just watched the fight.

Had Figueroa ahead just slightly but it was close. Great left hook and finish, he just kept coming.

I'm not so sure at this weight, where the taller guys have to sacrifice at least some level of muscle, making them potentially weaker inside against Ball's low centre of gravity. I think he'd lose cardio at a faster rate than he gained strength if he bulked. His current balance seems peak.

The reach of someone his height could be a problem, but his doesn't seem terrible. Tyson fought dudes with a foot more span.

He had every right to celebrate. Scousers just being Scousers.

Ball is tough but limited.

On another point, no way Figueroa would have been allowed to carry on like Ball was after that knockdown. He was done

How could you not celebrate a 12th round victory in a fight you were behind in? Pulling victory out of the jaws of defeat has to be about as thrilling a victory as possible. When there's a title on the line on top of it.

It'd be weird if you didn't celebrate, and get excited as all sh*t honestly. That's about as thrilling as life gets ain't it?

Yeah, Ball was ahead in the fight so it's not as if he took a prolonged beating. He just got hammered with a big shot, and couldn't recover. Hopefully the extra hits after that first knockdown didn't do too much extra damage.

Jack Turner is an exciting fella to watch. Really heavy hands and a lovely jab when he uses it.

Loves to be in a tear up though and seems to mark up easily and cut.

Reminds me a lot of the late Eddy Valero the way he just tears into people.

Not sure how he keeps making that weight though, looks far bigger than his opponents in the ring.

Be interesting to see him move up the levels and find out what his ceiling is.

Throw him in with a grizzled Mexican like Perez or Guevera, both beneath him on boxrec rankings and getting on. They would both be real tests

I like Turner but boxrec having him rated 9 in the world with a record like that is ridiculous
