That sounds like Saudi Arabia. I wouldn't want to go down that route. If you want to show you are better than a backwards barbarian society it's not a good idea to copy their methods. The legal system incarcerates innocent people quite often. Imagine getting a hand chopped off for a crime you didn't commit.

You may take the piss but there's no punishment for committing crimes, I've seen loads of videos of gangs of lads all masked up, wielding knives and hammers and taking what they want in broad daylight and nothing is ever done about it. The do-gooders come out with the ol'shite about how they grew up in poverty, my parents grew up without a pot to piss in yet never turned to lives of crime.
It's easier to blame the victim nowadays, you know, the rape victim provoked her attacker by being attractive or the mugging victim was asking for it for wearing a rolex watch.

I'm actually quite conservative when it comes to crime and punishment but i don't think we want to start killing people or lopping limbs off, that would make us as bad as the perpetrators

The problem with this country is that we, that does not mean me, are scared of upsetting ethnic groups.
It's not ok for me to walk around with a knife, even if I protest it's for cutting up fishing lines that may entangle a fish, but it's ok for other beliefs to have one, no questions asked.
If I went to live in a Muslim country, would it be ok for me to proclaim the lord Jesus F Christ is the only one we should be following?
In my opinion. If I went to Dubai for example I would definitely obey their rules and laws.
This is not the case in the UK, come one come all and do as you please, but if the British step out of line, in this country, even by slagging someone off on Facebook we have the coppers around, fully loaded 6 at a time in the early hours.
I can't even get a copper to help a suicidal person on a bridge with a knife, I cannot get a copper to help me move a person who is sleeping rough and disrupting the running of a hospital. Both examples are fact.
