It was a close fight, both Harrison and Williams are shite. I think Harrison probably has more ability but he is woefully out of shape, when he hurt Williams in the 11th he couldn't even follow it up with more than 2 or 3 punches, it was pathetic.

Yeah he was tired but from what exactly? He had done phuck all for the entire fight...

The last 3 rounds were a bit more exciting but on the whole it was a poor night for boxing because a lot of casual fans would have been turned off by what went before. Example of this is that I watched the fight with 3 others at 1am after a night out. By the third round they were all fast asleep...

How the hell did Audley jump up 35 places to 18th in the boxrec rankings off the back of this performance!!! .

He lost a close decision (SD - average 2 points per judge) to higher rated Williams. So his cut is set to 40 points below Williams' current rating, and as his basic rating was higher since times, he gets this current rating.

This was an achievement and an improvement for Harrison, as this was the first top boxer he met.

I was expecting to see the best out of Audley when he was under pressure, but I couldn't have been further from the truth if I had tried. Terrible work rate, fought scared and I wasn't impressed with the punch that put Audley down either. Even when Audley had Danny hurt in the 11th he seemed reluctant to unload.


Let me talk you through my day (yesterday), because some of you might find some sick sort of humour out of it. Me and 3 mates (Kev, Rob and Rich) were travelling down to the fight yesterday, all 3 of them dislike Audley, 2 of them are EXTREMELY vocal in their dislike for him(Kev and Rob), I've been having the Audley banter with Kev for years and since Rob recently found out I was an Audley fan he has been e-mailing with Audley abuse, so I've been 'correcting' him with stats and opinion for the last week

We had a 2 and a half hour journey to the Excel arena (2:30-5) and I've got both of them in my earhole giving me loads of anti-Audley abuse from the moment we got in Kevs car, with comments like "Audley is spineless" and "Audley has got no heart", but by this time I was still feeling confident about the fight, so I was giving them some pro-Audley comments back. By the time we got to London the abuse had degenerated into (and I quote) "Audley is a wanker and so are all his fans" and "Audley is a spineless pudendum"

During the week I'd been talked into driving back after the fight, because I've had a bad stomach and wasn't going to be drinking, as soon as we got into he arena (5:30) Kev and Rob headed straight to the bar, the next time I saw them was 5 minutes prior to the main event and they were both fairly leathered, the anti-Audley abuse continued just a 20 decables louder than previous. The fight started (which was the most frustrating 48 minutes of my life) and I've got these pair of clowns starting "Audley is a wanker" chants and I've got their commentary being rammed down my throat from start to finish with them both screaming in my face in the 10th when Audley got put on his arse, they momentarily went abit quieter in the 11th and I got abit louder, which was a mistake :(

As soon as the fight finishes we go back to the car which is when Kev and Rob get into full flow, Rob is the funniest bloke I know and he can destroy people verbally and comically... as I found out. Kev just applies the more direct route of ribbing me with regular shouts of "Audley A-hole Harrison" and "Audrey is a total and utter wanker" (I can't write some of the jibes they threw at me about Audley, but beastiality was involved amongst others).

I would hear this following conversation at least every 10 minutes on the way home

Kev:Where you been tonight Rob?
Rob: I've been to watch the boxing
Kev: oh yeah, who was fighting?
Rob: Audley "I'm a spineless pudendum....[more abuse]..... got no heart" Harrison against Danny "I'm distinctly average, been knocked out a few times got outclassed by Vitali" Williams
Kev: Who won?

I've had to sit through all of this in total silence, because what the fornicate could I say that wouldn't have made the situation worse.

On the way back I took a wrong turning and then tried to convince them it was the right way, it added an hour onto the journey time and what by now was becoming a really long day. Now with their new found ammunition of my fucked up route home and due to the fact that their hangovers were kicking in, they quite remarkably managed to up the abuse level another notch.

The fog was terrible in places, the car was a shed and I wasn't insured all of which added to a nightmare drivehome

I finally made it home at about 2:15am, so I thought that I'd watch the fight again to TRY and grab ANY sort of a positive from it, only to find out that sky+ had somehow fucked up and not taped the coverage that was on ITV1. Which topped off a truly fantastic day!!!!

Now I've got to come and face the music on numerous British and general forums (me and my BIG mouth ) and to add insult to injury I've had a ten pound bet with a casual fan from work


I saw Audleys interview on the ITV4 coverage where he said that he lost the use of his left hand in the third, which would explain alot to me, but I'm not going to start to try and make excuses for what was a dismal performance.

In fairness I've said that Audley still had questions to answer on his stamina, heart and chin, but I thought that he would prove he had some of these attributes when put under pressure.......I WAS WRONG!!!!

The most frustrating part was the 11th round when Audley had Danny hurt, I thought right then Audley throw the kitchen sink at him here and you might be able to use your get out of jail free card, but he couldn't keep up a sustained attack and it soon slipped back into the same dross. Audleys workrate throughout the fight was diaboloical, I expected the usually slow and cautious start from him, but he never got out of second gear and if thats Audleys "full arsenal" then..........

Audley can still comeback from this, but there are some fundamental issues that need to be raised and my expectations of what he'll achieve have been severely altered. Audley needs to bounce back with a BIG name fight and BIG performance in the US asap.

Anyway Gentlemen have I told you how good David Haye is?

Was wondering when you'd brave things. You're more of a man than Audley anyway. He really has slid his fans up totally, and has proved every critic correct, sad though it is.

I think your all missing the classic comedy value of this fight:

Audley throwing 2 punches against a stationary Williams missing both by a meter
Williams late wild swings missing by feet
Audley get decked by Williams Right Wrist
Audleys poor impression of Ruiz jab and grab

Audley just wasn't that good - I hoped he was but he wasn't - could even throw 1-2 arm punches properly. He was a world champion hope if he beat Williams convincingly. He threw some resonable leather in rounds 11-12 but I think him even landing those shots showed Williams was tired.

Williams may be in with Brewster next according to King - pretty interesting

I'm at a loss to know how Audely hurt his left hand in the third as I can't remember him actually throwing it in the first 3 rounds. Perhaps it went numb through immobility!. Either way though proboxing is all about winning fights with injuries and the hand excuse is a nonsense.
Regarding Haye, Gurov has a tasty punch himself and I think if he goes past the 4th round David could well end up with simular career prospects as Audely....
Anyway at least you had a good night.

Sunday 11th December 2005. Audley Harrison Statement


Firstly, I would like to congratulate Danny Williams on gaining victory last night. The best man won on the night by a split decision.

I cannot make any excuses about my performance. I did not box to my full potential as anyone who has seen my previous fights would know. I apologise to my team, family and fans for coming up short. The boxing road to the top is a rough one, but this is a blip that I am determined to overcome and that I will overcome.

I feel like when I was an amateur back in 1999 and going to the World Championships with all the fan-fair only to disappoint with a dismal performance against Samil Sam for which I was rightly crucified. That made me look at my attitude within boxing and I made changes. The following year I won the Olympic Gold. I will study myself once more and do wherever is necessary to overcome this setback.

I damaged my knuckle in about the second or third round and Danny’s rough tactics got me out of my game. It is a lesson that I will learn from and if Danny and Frank grant me a rematch in the future I will rectify my errors.

I have suffered my first professional knockdown and loss but the positives I take away from the fight are that I can take a punch and come back strongly as I hurt Danny in round 11. This gives me confidence that I am capable of giving punishment and can hurt these strong guys.

Those who still have faith in me, I thank you for your continued support and promise to make the sacrifices necessary to fulfil my potential and I will be back in the ring as soon as my hand settles.

On a final note, obviously the problems between allegedly and A-Force Promotions have been well documented but I would like to thank allegedly and ITV for their professionalism on this promotion.

Well done Chambers for coming on, I do actually feel sorry for you. You've championed Harrison to the hilt, but I don't buy the injury at all - for the reasons Silkov outlined. I didn't see him throw any less punches from the fourth and what about the left, did he hurt that training?

I know how it feels when you champion a fighter on forums, on a different forum I championed Danny and also David Starie as potential world class fighters - and I had to suffer the Samil Sam and Andre Thysse losses. Another poster championed Joe Calzaghe as this potential great champion who will beat the best - he suffered more abuse.

Its good that you have shown faith with Audley in the past and when critics questioned you, you stuck by it. Admirable, I'm not going to gloat as you said there was undoubted question marks, he just failed the test.

Chambers, you have my sympathy. As appalling as last night was, at least I hadn't been championing Audley. You must be gutted pal. Still, fair play to you for showing your face.

I spoke to my Dad today, who whilst not a massive fight fan, had watched the evening's 'action'. He summed it up when he said "Audley's shorts made it look as if he'd soiled himself. And he certainly fought like that was the case."

One thing I did notice, that I hadn't before was just how small Audley's upper body is. When he was covering up, there was not alot of room for Danny to catch him clean to the body. He has the perfect build for it... which makes it a crying shame.

He is definately capable of performing alot better than that, but he needs to show more aggression and fight with a better work rate

i was there as well and just astounded by Audleys approach.

I really thought he would step it up but he ran away like a petrified abused hound. Only bearing his teeth in the 11th briefly.

He landed 57 shots all fight, and didnt throw many more than that.

it was abject, lacking in desire and skill.

Im ashamed I even picked he man to win let alone supported him the past few years, Kilburn tyou were right along mate, I was wrong.

Audley does not have the heart, desire, workrate, nor determination to win any version of anything.

He has the skills alright, but without the above this means nothing.

Anyone who doesnt think Williams won that by a very clear margin is daft, the judge that gave it to Aud needs striking off. There was no "subjectivity" argument applicalbe. its was two average guys, one who tried and one who didnt simple as that.

How anyone can still have any faith in Harrison after that pathetic effort is way beyond me. He was diabolical and did nothing apart from a few shots in the 11th. He should have had points taken off for the excessive holding he was warned countless times. He needs to learn how to take a shot but its got to be too late for that now. I have always thought he looked tentative in the past when he was caught but the guys he has been fighting really were cannon fodder. I always suspected that his big confidence was a bit of a facade, it was always so over the top I thought he didn't really believe in it himself and that seems to be the case as he had zero confidence on Saturday. After all the boasts he made Harrison has lost to a guy who probably couldn't even beat the current British champion. As for Williams he was woefully out of shape he needs to drop some weight its been long known he loves his junk food but he really needs some real discipline. Skelton will hammer him if he rocks up to their fight in the sort of shape he was in at the weekend.

I wonder if the likes of Lennox will continue to show their support for Audley now he has lost like this?

You're definitely a sucker for punishment aren't you?

Obviously Aud hasn't got the heart, or chin, for a battle - which are not problems you can correct, and a bit of a problem if you're a heavyweight boxer - in fact, chin up is the last thing he needs!

He was calling out Jameel McCline a few months back - all I can say is, thank God it never happened...can you imagine those two giants , backpeddling around the ring away from each other for 12 rounds?

By the way, this wasn't the worst heavyweight 12 rounder we've ever seen in UK - that honour goes to Funso Banjo and Hughroy Curry in the 80's: 12 rounds for the Brit title, where absolutely NOTHING happened.

Likened to watching two statues for 45 minutes. Johnny Nelson would've been proud.

McCline would beat Harrison easily, I thought that before the weekend even moreso after seeing him on Saturday.
