The naivity shown is breathtaking.
If anyone seriously thinks that Junior will fight Hatton for nowt is deluded.
Have any of you that believe this been around boxing at all ?
The bollocks spouted on a regular basis with tongue firmly in cheek to either 1/ Gauge or gain a reaction 2/ Simply get your name in the press is there for all to see.
As an example, do you believe Nelson when he says he's coming back to take on Haye ?
I say all of this as a full on supporter of Witter and all of the lads based in Sheffield.
Witter - despite all of you believing that money is not a motivator - clearly sees an oppertunity to make a shed load and FFS who wouldn't want to as the WBC Champion by fighting Hatton.
The difference is that this oppertunity to exploit his opponent's obvious pulling power and public appeal also comes against a man he truly believes (and has done for many years) that he can beat !!
I'm sure that Hatton can't wait to lose his title, and make the man he hates vehemently very wealthy.
Boxing has always been and always will be about clever match making once you get to the higher echelons.
That may stick in the throat of genuine fans (it does with me) but it will never change so live with it.
The biggest issue I have with Junior is that he himself has not exploited his own position as WBC Champion and I blame his advisors, Managers, and Promotors for that.
Anyone would think there was no other fornicator to fight but Hatton.
In the time he has wasted energy focusing on Hatton he could have made a couple of voluntary defences, tried to re-establish his credibility over the pond, and turned the circus around Hatton v Witter into the greatest money spinner of all time.
At the same time (whilst tiny in comparison) banked a few quid.
People mention Golden Boy.
They signed Witter nearly 5 years ago FFS and as WBC Champ don't you think they could have done something to the exclusion of Hatton ?
Look he's not marketable. Period.
Hatton has the perfect excuse not to fight him. Period.
Please move on !!

I'll be posting on this subject until the fight happens or til one of them retires, it pisses me off that the fight isn't happening and this is the perfect place to vent my frustration, even if it is futile.

Chambers,
We've been about boards for many years mate, and I hope that you don't think that I'm any less frustrated by you over this.
In some rspects it's worse for me, because I know a lot of the Sheffield lads personally.
It's just that I've moved on - on the basis that I'm wasting my time.
However, I would ask you to consider the latter part of my post about Witter and his team itself.
Do you agree ?

excellent post twenty six.. its as ive said before, win, lose or drawn this fight would make junior witter a household name, put him on the chat show circuit etc etc... he'd have a ready made retirement fund within a year or two.. why does ricky hatton want a part to play in that?? he's already made his dough and doesn't like the fella.. people cite the benn/eubank rivalry in comparison but benn and eubank both acknowledge they wouldn't of made half their money without the help of the other one.. that's not the case for ricky - he's cracked america, got a huge fan base and doesnt need to dance to anyone else's tune... now id love to see another great domestic match-up as much as anyone else on here but i've followed boxing long enough to understand how sometimes you don't get the big fights you really want to see...

I should probably move on as well.

Witters been trying to break into the US market for a while, for whatever reason it hasn't happened yet (Judah fight, poor promoting, lack of fans and ££'s, Witters style of fighting..... I don't know), I was hoping and expecting him to have it easier now that he's got a World title, but alas it hasn't happened yet... although if he can win impressively on USTV against Bradley it might open some doors.

Hatton is obviously the fight Junior wants, but I don't think Junior and Mick have been putting all their eggs in the Hatton basket, they still seem to be trying to progress his career with other fights (which also haven't been forthcoming - D-Hop dropping out, and USTV turning down a host of replacements, Paulie being lined upto fight Hatton) as they know that Hatton has little intention of squaring upto him, maybe he should have been more active, but I'm not too sure that a couple of voluntary gimme defences would have aided his cause. One thing's clear, the Golden Boy link wasn't worth the dust its gathered under.

I disagree that Hatton has the perfect excuse not to fight him, the fight has all the justification it needs and plenty more IMO.

All this talk of being at the upper echelons of the sport means NOTHING.

If Witter just appeared then yes, he would have a right to challenge him, but the fact this has been going on since they were both BRITISH LEVEL speaks volumes.

Hatton had moved the goal posts and abused himself and his fans with the crap he talks.

Until they fight - I - DG - will be asking for this to happen.

:D

ps.

Spuds a pudendum

He should have fought him for the British instead!

Why Hatton cares what Witter makes is beyond me.

its beyond you? are you stupid or somethin? Hatton has said he doesnt want to giv Witter the best payday of his career cus all Witter has done for years is bad mouth him. If i was Hatton i wouldnt fight him either, there are better pay days out there for Hatton and bigger names
Didn't Hatton badmouth Mayweather to get him in the ring?????? boxing would be a shit sport if everyone adopted Rickys attitude

Lets get something right, Hat boy.

The excuses are ( in no particular order up to )

1) Let the fight build- check!
2) Its in 'me' contract- ?
3) Win a world title - check
4) Be exciting - Check
5) I don't want to give him a pay day
6) He said 'one day'

So, Hat Boy - you would not fight Witter either? LIke Hatton - you are scared and a coward.

Or did Witter slag you off also?

You should hear what PBF and Maliginagggg said about Hatton.

I reckon Junior could get Hatton to hit his head off all 4 cornerposts from one precise punch
