i think we are getting carried away on a wave of emotion and expectation here. i love team haye, love the whole hayemaker concept. but...i honestly think that if haye does not get rid of monte inside the first 5 rounds then the fight will turn the new yorkers way. haye has got to put him away early doors...

It's not hard to guess someone's weight when you're stood at the side of them when they do a check weight. :o

I thought Barrett was a terrible choice of opponent... still do.

Have a very bad feeling about this fight.

Unreal odds, amazing - Ladbrokes are still offering 66 for round 1, 50s for the next batch of rounds up to halfway, plus you can get groups of two starting at 28!

I thought that too, but let's face it, Barrett isn't going to be coming out with a high volume of dangerous fire, he's going to sit back for the first couple of rounds or so and that suits Haye. Haye is going to get his shots off first in this one, I'm pretty sure of it, but the question is whether Monte will have the heart to stick around once he tastes Haye's power. I think he will... but Haye will land a LOT and force a stoppage around round 5, that's my prediction. Now I have to find a way to watch it...

You're probably right, or at least I hope you are.

Got a feeling everything will go as scripted right up until the point that Haye gets caught with a bomb.

Having said that, I was the same way before the Enzo fight. I thought that was a risky fight he shouldn't have taken and he did just fine.

The Later this fights goes the better Monte's chances, If Haye doesn't get rid of Barrett very early it could be get difficult for him as early as round 3 or 4, once Monte gets into the fight starts landing and pushing Haye back.

D-Day has arrived for David Haye as he takes on tough and experienced American Monte Barrett in his home city of London tonight.
The once-beaten Haye makes his official heavyweight debut after six exciting years at cruiserweight. The heavyweight division is wide open but first comes its gatekeeper in Barrett, a brash New Yorker with 40 fights at the weight behind him - 40 hard fights. Barrett went 11 rounds with monstrous Russian Nikolai Valuev in a crack at the 'world' heavyweight title, seven rounds with giant Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko, the full 12 with Hasim "The Rock" Rahman... He was fighting heavies when Haye was a gangling teenager - and often beating heavies. Barrett has licked many a young heavyweight prospect, such as Dominick Guinn, Owen Beck and Tye Fields.
David Haye?
Haye is nine years the younger man and can whack - he can really whack - but ask yourself this: does Valuev whack, or Klitschko or Rahman? Of course they do, and Barrett took on Klitschko in London eight long years ago, climbing up from five knockowns before it was stopped. Barrett has seen it all before; he has shown he can hang in there.
Remember when a cocky unbeaten Haye cracked, "I've never met a fighter who doesn't respect my power"? It came just days before he took on a 40-year-old cruiserweight by the name of Carl Thompson, who soaked up his biggest shots and came back to hammer him at Wembley in September 2004. Haye was exhausted, beaten, subdued, all in five rounds. Barrett will know this; he will know Haye is used to blowing away his opponents.
Haye needed just 105 seconds to destroy Polish thumper Tomasz Bonin in a heavyweight 'tester' last year, dropped back down and survived a fourth-round knockdown against tough Frenchman Jean Marc Mormeck in Paris to level the local star with a crushing right hand in the seventh. Then he blew away good Welshman Enzo Maccarinelli in just two rounds earler this year
That was Haye's last fight, and his last fight at cruiserweight.
The Londoner, 21-1 (20), has been the distance only once as a pro: on a bizarre night in Altrincham in the summer of 2006 when he held back and tapped his way to a 12-round decision over Belgian Ismael Abdoul. Haye looked like a man proving something to himself that night, or maybe the sweltering conditions affected his performance, but it was hardly a proper distance fight and you still wonder about his strength and power in the closing stages of a fight, of this fight, although the limit is 10 rounds tonight.
Still, the charismatic Haye is a proper puncher, a natural puncher, quick for a big man, quick and talented. Heavyweight should suit him. He just needs to get past Barrett.

I agree. I'm going for Haye in 5, but after that I'll start to get worried.

Hayes a smart guy, I think he'll be happy to get some rounds in here if necessary and I think Barrett will run (slowly).

I think a late Haye stoppage rounds 8-10 at odds of 8/1 will do me.

I fear an upset. It isnt what I want to see but Barrett can take shots as well as land them. I think his gameplan will be to weather the early storm from Haye and try for the KO from 6-7 onwards. Haye can get it on points, but I dont think Barrett can. A KO either way is the most likely scenario and I just hope its Haye who lands the bomb. Not an easy opponent for Hayes first real fight at HW, but if he is looking at Klitscho then its no good fighting bums.

he very much gave the impression he'd be comming in heavier, however I think this is positive, will be interesting to see how he factors in concerns about HW power to his style I think the low hands could get him in trouble.

Barrett has been handpicked to be KO'ed and luckily got Into the WBO'S top 10 so Haye could get away with picking him.

Too early for that, Teddy. Streams which go live an hour before often don't make it.

Waylon: I agree about Monte's plan. He'll be hoping to come through the early rounds, because his natural strength can wear Haye down. If he's there after four it gets very interesting. Thompson and Mormeck have shown what 'old men' can do.

However, I think David will catch him in the first two, so that's what I clicked on above. DH in less than five minutes. How do the BoxRec wives and girlfriends have it? ;;-)
