A fighter doesn't have to dominate an opponent to get a 10-7 round. They just have to win the round and knock their opponent down twice. Dolan really should have got a 10-7 round in the 4th.

Are you sure that is how it works in a British title fight?
I was under the impression that scoring was more as described here-
http://www.johnnyowen.com/rules.html
"There is no rule that mandates that a judge score a knockdown as an automatic one-point deduction. It is left to the judge's discretion on how they score each round. Theoretically, a judge could score a round at 10-9, 10-8 or if in the judge's judgment it was warranted due to the complete dominance of one fighter, a 10-7 round."

Ugly frustrating fight. I can't deny a man his success, but Norton is hard to watch. I don't like his counter right hook. Most of the time it's not really a punch, but rather he just pulls the other guy's head down.
Disappointed that Dolan couldn't get the win. Moving down to cruiser wasn't such an advantage because he has heavyweight speed ie can't pull the trigger fast enough. While he has speed/variety at heavy, he looks predictable at cruiser.
Yes Norton is a horrid style, but Mark Hobson didn't have to go nip and tuck, he went right in there outboxing and outfighting Norton. Dolan can maybe win a British title against an orthodox cruiser. I won't write him off but at 29 he looks a bit of a nearly man.

I had Norton one point up.
Dissapointed a bit with Dolan, bit one dimensional and comes forward in straight lines to coin the cliche. Not a lot of head movement and rarely switched to the body.

Got to be honest, I did not think it was a good fight, 5 kds sounds great but arguably 4 of the kds were balance/canvas problems for me.
To be honest I thought it was a very average british title fight, minority for me I guess

Not disputing the fact that the Sky stuff of late has been rank but does that mean we have to say a fight was really good when it simply was not.
KD's were almost all balance issues and problems with the canvas as highlighted with some of the footwork on the other fights and Norton was, well Norton and Dolan to be honest let the fight slip away from him.
On a slightly different angle I thought the scoring was miles off, actually scored the fight a draw but would not have argued to much if Norton got it by one or two but not quite sure where two of the judges got there cards.
Not sure it gets any better next week on Sky either with Cleverly against the reserve Kenyan

Dolan needs to work on his fitness and general conditioning for me. Should have closed the fight out but let Norton come back into things. I would say it was a fight that Dolan let slip from his grasp despire the way it was scored and I'd be dissapointed with Dolan's general lack of mobility to be honest - it contributed to one of his knock-downs for sure.

David just can't handle southpaws..He's never been comfortable boxing them..Felt a bit sorry for him at times as he was trying so hard and Norton was just making the most of his awkward style..BUT this is boxing and styles make fights..David took his opportunity and come p a little short, Maybe with more experience he'll do better?? I hope he does he's a proper gent!!

Maybe, but it doesn't look like he can go further than domestic titles at the moment. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I was personally hoping for more. I think Dolan is too slow and immobile. He was fighting like a Heavyweight at Cruiserweight, yet I was expecting him to have increased speed and mobility.

I enjoyed this. I thought Dolan would win but he run out of gas though. Who would Norton fight next?

Agreed. Messy and frustrating. I wanted Dolan to be better than he was and he just couldn't find the variety or accuracy. Wish we had a good cruiser coming through who could get by fairly tricky foes like Norton.

I do see your points BUT he is so uncomfortable with southpaws mate..I think you'll see the best of david against someone like say Sam Sexton..Smaller heavyweights..I think the Chisora fight would be interesting as Del Boy likes it all at his pace and Dolan wouldn't allow that..I think he should look at the English title and take it from there, He's proved 1 thing though..he can do 12 rounds and that's a thing that is always at the back of a fighters mind and now he knows he can do it maybe he'll be a bit more adventurous??
Good luck to him anyway and credit to him also as he didn't have to take the fight with Norton..He is awkward him to be fair and makes the most of his southpaw stance..Good luck to him too!!

Definitely, I do think he can win a British title if it's held by a right hander.
Sad that he couldn't win after scoring 2 KDs in a single round.
Expected a bit more of Dolan. Hobson dealt with Norton pretty convincingly, and some were saying Dolan could've been the next big thing.

Francis v Norton next perhaps I read he was moving back to cruiserweight.

Yeah, full credit to Dolan for giving it a try. It's good experience and I'm sure he'll have learnt a lot from it.

Francis is down on Boxrec as fighting at Light Heavyweight next week, against an old Cleverly foe. It looks like Warren is seeing whether he wants to put them (Francis & Cleverly) in against each other.

I thought Dolan was a bit unlucky. All the knockdowns against him were dodgy to say the least and Norton bent the rules a fair bit through out the fight. Dave Parris is a poor ref IMO.
With a bit more experience Dolan will beat Norton next time. I have to confess I really don't enjoy watching Norton. It's often said he's avoided, but no wonder, he's not good viewing and doesn't come to fight.

.....does anyone also believe the 2nd KD for Dolan to be a bit dubious?....i only saw a couple of replays but i couldn't tell if it was a punch that landed, or a clash of heads that sent Norton down
I thought it was a decent fight, but not much more than that.....Sky went a bit over the top by calling it a 'thriller'.....the majority of the knockdowns were incorrect.....Dave Parris was on poor form

Agree mate it looked like a sure fire head clash as Dolan came up and accidentally seemed to nut Norton, I didnt see a big punch land that could have caused such a big knockdown. A big well done must therefore go to Norton for his powers of recovery as it did look a hurtful knockdown.
Overall, Norton is a very annoying fighter, I was rooting for Dolan to spark him out to shut up his in-ring talking and annoying stance/antics. Unfortunately Dolan did look limited in there which is a shame, I had it very close and as I didnt like Norton's style I had Dolan up by 1 round due to the fact his first knockdown was decent in ROund 4 and that he was working harder in the earlier rounds. The actual judge's scorecards were absolute shockers.

Norton it is then.
It looked a bit like the judges had all had a bet on Norton to be honest. One of the closest scraps in ages and they somehow turn it into a walkover!

I certainly think that Norton's third and Dolan's first were pretty weak. Having said that the first two that Norton went down to were good shots, and arguably he could have been stopped after the second one.
