How can you read I am being gullible there? I just more or less showed the leading evidence to put to rest the entire story to begin with. It's 95% certain it didn't take place at all, if the Ray Pearson's story was in fact in the Chicago Tribune on December 4th, 1921 BEFORE the Brooklyn Eagle article of December 11th. Find it Buzz, and be a hero.

I read this article years ago and then forgot about it. No way Jack Dempsey fought Jack Johnson and nobody knew it happened.

What about this scenario, though?

Kearns and Dempsey want to pick up some spare change. They take Dempsey's chief sparring partner, George Godfrey, with them up to Canada and fleece a bunch off local yokels who don't know a left hook from a heel-hook by telling them Godfrey is Jack Johnson and charging them to see a private fight between two heavyweight legends, whereupon Dempsey and Godfrey duke it out.

I don't believe that happened either, of course, but as long as we're discussing flights of fantasy ....

If you look up my posts over at ESB, you will find somewhere there a link to the article you are talking about. They are work for word, but the first one says clearly that it is a fictional account up the top. I presume that it was as simple as not having enough space to print this headline. I would change your 95% to 100% unfortunately.

I reckon I will have to track this down and repost it here for BoxRec. Jesus bless.

Read it and weep. The greatest fight in heavyweight history.... never took place. It's a damned shame, but it's all there black and white clear as crystal when you read the very end of the article and it says it was a work of fiction by Ray Pierson. Jesus bless.

If you like that one,you may want to get the DVD of Superfight,Rocky Marciano vrs Muhammad Ali.
On the bonus disc they have the Superfights radio bouts of Murray Woroner from 1967,
The winners that were picked by a computer.
Max Baer vrs Jack Johnson is one of the bouts.

Already got it lmao and I will say I dont think that is in any way how Marciano would have fought Ali and vice versa.

He fought that way because he probably wasnt as flexible as he once was to
bob and roll away from punches and because of the toupee he was wearing
would have kept coming off in addition to Ali's constant jabbing at it.

That is one possible factor in why the film was shot that way, but the computer script was wrong in alot of aspects. I don't see Ali doing what he did, or Marciano doing what he did, as the computer printed out the script. It would have been an entirely different fight altogether. The ending is speculative to anyone, but as far as what happened from round one onwards, I dont think the computer quite had it right.

The fact is, everyone who threatened to produce real evidence of this event, have been killed in horrible indescribable ways. Which is why it has successfully remained a secret.

Just last week, the last living son of one of the former "secret keepers" had his bed pan filled with red hot chili peppers. The staff of the nursing home who were paid to punish him just laughed as he writhed in pain from the jalapeno juice that his johnson ended up being "inadvertently" dipped in. He has now once again retracted his earlier statements which seemed to indicate that this match actually happened.

A classic if ever there was one. And a reason to give thanks to a small section of this forum that industriously captures and disseminates history, fiction, and the fusion of each, in ways that keep the sceptic mind, as well as the imagination, healthy and alert.

Quite a trip down memory lane.
