So what is the end goal? Trump didn’t think about how this was all going to end when he began this war. No plan, no strategy, nothing. He just thought that threatening Iran would work and it hasn’t.

Petrol 1.52
Diesel 1.82 this morning, guy in the shop said wait another 2 weeks and you'll be wishing these prices were back, also said there will be a drought on diesel soon.

Perhaps things have changed, but when I worked in the petrol station 20 years ago on the night shift (when we would do the petrol changes) - we would get a very quick phone call - "no change today" or "unleaded = blah blah, diesel = blah blah " - but nothing fancy as in a long term petrol forecast and we would have to do that price or they would come down on us like a tonne of bricks.
Manager didn't say any longer term petrol prices also. Just go on that phone call.

It is definitely great news for Russia, who by all accounts have been getting whupped by Ukraine and are losing territory rapidly.
It is my understanding however, that most of the oil that comes through the strait of Hormuz is bound for Asia?
Asia is bearing the brunt of the price shocks so far, but inevitably, it will push global prices up.
I am definitely not looking forward to 500/month energy bills, which is what happened at the start of the Ukraine war.
Unfortunately, prices fo electricity generation, are calculated using the LNG price basis, so if that goes up, then everything else goes up with it.

Replacing an evil regime with a non evil regime probably wouldn't work even if there were US boots on the ground. Frankly, I don't think it's worth American or European lives for that matter even if it did work. I'd be willing to take a financial risk on it working, but lives are paramount to money.
Let some of the other ME countries provide boots on the ground like Israel or Saudi Arabia. It's their region, not ours.

Well, no other administration decided to go all out on Iran, so I would expect, if at all possible, whoever gets in afterward, or certainly more so if a democrat wins, will try to normalise relations with Iran, though that might prove difficult depending on how long this goes on, and how much long term damage is done to Iran's infrastructure.
