Absolutely correct, ray. First time I've seen all 3 in one shot.raylawpc wrote:"The Joe Louis Brain Trust" (l to r) John Roxborough, Julian Black and Jack Blackburn. Circa 1940.Collins2000 wrote:Who are these 3 old timers?
Well done.
Re: World Title Trivia
Who was trounced into submission in a first fight by his opponent, yet entered the rematch as a 5/1 favourite?
Re: World Title Trivia
...there may be others, but joe louis is the only one i can think of...
Re: World Title Trivia

Lewis vs McCall?bennie wrote:Who was trounced into submission in a first fight by his opponent, yet entered the rematch as a 5/1 favourite?
I know Wlad was a big favorite vs Brewster in their rematch.

Re: World Title Trivia

Woo hoo, I've found a good 'un! None of the above are right I relish to say (because I've been outclassed so far on this thread).

Basilio is correct!
Re: World Title Trivia
yep, marciano 7-0, tunney 3-0 and roy jones 1-0. it's hard for me to believe that this is the list after almost 125 years of heavyweight title fights under queensberry rules.jaclem2 wrote:..perfect records in heavyweight title fights...don't know of any besides marciano and tunney...and if it's one of those alphabet guys i don't count them...

Re: World Title Trivia
That's if you count Jones. Personally, at that weight, I don't. Lewis was the champ at the time. If Jones had beaten Lewis, & only Lewis, I would list him with Marciano & Tunney.bjermaine wrote:yep, marciano 7-0, tunney 3-0 and roy jones 1-0. it's hard for me to believe that this is the list after almost 125 years of heavyweight title fights under queensberry rules.jaclem2 wrote:..perfect records in heavyweight title fights...don't know of any besides marciano and tunney...and if it's one of those alphabet guys i don't count them...
Of course, I'm racist

...jones was one of the alphabet boys, and as i said i do not count them.
so...as 99.99% of boxing followers would agree...it's tunney and marciano...period.

How about Jose Napoles vs Billy Backus?
Guess it depends how one interprets the first part of the question. Napoles was very badly cut which isn't really trounced...

The guy retired on his stool in the first fight yet was still a heavy favourite for the pathetic rematch....

sorry my question wasn't up to jaclem2's and irene's standards.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Indeed. LOL @ Jones' inclusion.jaclem2 wrote:...jones was one of the alphabet boys, and as i said i do not count them.

if you don't count jones that's up to you but i guess that means you don't count holy-tyson 1 & 2 as title fights either since they were just for the wba title.
since you guys' standards are so high, marciano should really be the only answer to the question. tunney never crossed the color line so he probably shouldn't count either.
Re: World Title Trivia
Who would you have had Tunney cross the color line against? He tried to cross the color line against Wills, but Wills turned him down . . .bjermaine wrote:sorry my question wasn't up to jaclem2's and irene's standards.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Indeed.
