Haye V Valuev (merged)
Re: Is Haye-Valuev really worth paying for?
Lewis vs Tyson and Holyfield 2 and hatton - mayweather would of been my guess.

Re: Is Haye-Valuev really worth paying for?
Yes, it is worth paying for. There is a chance David Haye will become WBA HW champion of the world, which would be brilliant for Boxing, particularly British Boxing. I think that's a good enough reason
By the way, if Haye wins, particularly if he wins by KO/TKO, I shall go berserk as I did when he beat Maccarinelli. I'm a big Haye fan, but I realise not everyone is. However, he is a risk taker & we all have to give him respect for being that way!

I think if Haye can avoid a bomb from Valuev in the first half of the fight I think Haye himself will smash a bomb into Valuev to setup a tko against the struggling ropes - Can't see Haye doing him on points though.....Rocky Balboa wrote:Yes, it is worth paying for. Haye needs a good fight plan to be spot-on in this one.

Thats what makes the fights exciting.mrrocco wrote:If David had a good chin, it wouldn't be contest - he would win easily.
But he has ben stopped in the mamateurs by Jim Twite, hurt badly by journeyman Lolenga Mock, stopped by Carl Thompson, put over by Lolenga Mock and put over by Monte bArrett who was taking a beating....
The conclusion is that Haye's chin is dodgy at light-heavy...let alone aginst a huge, if basic, 22 stoner. That is the enigma.
I think Valuev will win By KO, but I wouldn;t be surprised by ANY result. That's why this fight is so interesting and can't miss.........

are you joking?if this does a 10th of Hatton-Mayweather ,i will be shocked.Just because he is discriminated against on here, doesent mean he's not popular.I think he did a million buys for that fight,Mayweather-Marquez did the same in a country how many times bigger?and everyone was saying it was a great result for boxing...MightyWarrior wrote:I really hope this one breaks the UK PPV boxing record, could do, a real shot in the arm for boxing...let's just hope Haye puts on a good show.
Not sure what the top 5 UK PPV boxing event were, Naz & Hatton was it?

GEORGE GROVES ON HAYE/VALUEV

Excellent interview with The Saint over at the Sun, and some great shots of Haye acting out the famous Ali shot under water.

I would be flabbergasted if this did any kind of record buy. Despite recent PR events Haye has nowhere near the profile that Hatton had.MightyWarrior wrote:I really hope this one breaks the UK PPV boxing record, could do, a real shot in the arm for boxing...let's just hope Haye puts on a good show.

Hatton built up his profile over several years the hard way, putting bums on seats, and then translating that into PPV figures later on.
I think this will do okay, buany records being shattered - not likely.

I've paid for it, looking forward to a nice High definition picture of Dave Darts on Saturday night
Freddie Roach picks Haye by KO
The legendary trainer, currently preparing for Manny Pacquiao's stellar showdown with Miguel Cotto, is adamant the Londoner will be "flatten" the giant Russian on Saturday.
Haye will be conceding almost 10 inches in height and anything up to seven stones in weight at the Nuremberg Arena, live on Sky Box Office.
But Roach is no stranger to taking down bigger opponents having recently guided Pacquiao past Oscar de la Hoya and Ricky Hatton, and believes the Hayemaker will have too much for Valuev.
"Haye will flatten Valuev, he'll crush him," he told Telegraph Sport. "He's too fast, too strong, too aggressive.
"Haye will become the first man to knock Valuev out. Sure, the big guy has shown he is resilient, and I'm surprised he can go 12 rounds without getting tired because he is so heavy, but with Haye's power and speed he's going to get KO'd."
Roach also believes that Haye is the man to spark some much-needed life into the heavyweight division.
The Klitschko brothers currently hold three of the four titles, with Wladimir in posession of the IBF and WBO and Vitali the WBC belt.
Haye has seen fights with both of them fall through and having upset them both with the infamous severed head T-shirt, might struggle to tempt them into a unification bout should he beat Valuev.
Charismatic
But Roach, who will also join up with Amir Khan shortly for his December showdown with Dmitriy Salita, says he is just the man to breathe new life into the blue riband division.
"Haye believes in himself, he talks a bit of bull, but he's just trying to ignite interest in the fight," he said. "He's young, exciting, and charismatic.
"Haye's the best thing for the heavyweight division right now, because he comes to fight, he comes to win, and he's a puncher.
"That's what heavyweight boxing should be all about. The Klitschko brothers are great boxers but they are boring. They don't take risks. You've got to go for it in this sport, and give 100 per cent.
"Manny Pacquiao is popular because he comes to exchange with you, he wants to fight. Once in a while he gets hit, but that is part of the game. Haye is the spark the heavyweight division needs right now.
"I'm sure Haye is going to win this fight. (Evander) Holyfield got a bad decision last year against Valuev, but Holyfield won that fight.
"If a shot 46-year-old Holyfield can beat Valuev, a young David Haye with speed and power means he will be the first guy to KO Valuev."

Haye: i'll use valuevs head as a punch bag
DAVID HAYE has teamed up with The Sun to take you behind the scenes as he prepares to face Nikolay Valuev.
The Londoner is confident he can slay the 7ft 2in giant in Germany and bring the WBA title back to Britain.
Check back here every day for all the latest news from the Hayemaker.
I TOUCHED down in Germany yesterday morning following one of the best training sessions of my career.
I wrapped up my intense training on Sunday evening with a ferocious session of punching. I now feel more confident than ever of destroying Nikolay Valuev on Saturday night.
It's something all boxers say, but I truly believe I'm punching harder and faster than ever before.
I do not have to worry about losing any weight in the final week and am going to be entering this fight at my optimum weight. That means I'm going to be healthy and fit.
The final training session was actually enjoyable, as I could clearly see how I'm going to demolish Valuev on Saturday night.
All the pieces to the puzzle started to come together before my eyes and I had to stop myself from getting too excited.
I genuinely don't see how Valuev is going to be able to stand up to the explosive punching I plan to bring to the ring.
It goes without saying that I've never met an opponent like him before, but I also truly believe he has never met anyone like me, either.
With training all but wrapped up, I travelled to Germany in the early hours of Monday morning.
We were booked on the ridiculously early 7am flight and that meant I had to be packed and out the door at 5am.
Given that we train very late in the evening and didn't finish until midnight, I ended up getting zero hours sleep on Sunday night.
That was annoying, but nothing I couldn't handle.
The most frustrating part was still to come, as when I reached German soil I was guided towards a disgusting hotel, with a dingy room.
After a quick call or two, we managed to depart the rancid lair with our legs and arms still intact.
We actually ended up at a lovely five-star hotel, though we had to pay for the five-star privilege. Still, if it saves us from the guaranteed Black Death of the first place, it will be well worth the price.
These are the sort of mind games and tactics you have to put up with when fighting abroad.
They rattle some fighters, while others refuse to ever box on foreign territory. The foreign promoters are always looking to give their guy any possible advantage and they'll look to screw you around left, right and centre if they think it's going to unsettle you.
I defeated Jean-Marc Mormeck in his home city of Paris in November 2007, so I know what this fighting abroad lark is all about.
I was messed around back then, too, and mysteriously didn't have any luggage to pick up at the airport when I arrived in France.
I could have let that get to me. I could have been unsettled and agitated.
Instead, I used Mormeck's head as a punch bag and knocked out the world cruiserweight champion in seven rounds.
Valuev should be warned. He carries with him an even bigger punch bag....

Meantime, I think Haye can do this. To be sure, he's not cut out to give Valuev the lateral movement Holyfield showed -- even at 132 years old -- which clearly gave Valuev fits, because he couldn't set.
But Valuev is terribly vulnerable to being countered under the jab with a right cross -- good for Haye -- and Haye won't offer too many jabs from which Valuev can counter with his own rights or uppercuts.
Just depends whether Haye gets 'caught' or if his stamina holds up.
But I wonder, given that the big man looks slower of late, whether Haye can't go and stop him. If Valuev flicks with the jab and throws the right as slowly as he did against Holyfield, he might be in for a painful night.
PS, Arthur Conan Doyle is very popular in Russia. Really, that and Agetha Christie (especially Poirot). In fact, as my Russian friends never tire telling me, apparently the Queen likes to Russian film version of Sherlock Holmes the best.

That's not a great picture - the water's not deep enough so Haye is squatting really low. Looks like he is is in the process of being knocked down or taking a sh1t.
Also that whole 'ALi trains underwater' thing, whilst a great photo and good press was fraudulent - ALi couldn't even swim and was scared of water.
It was just (admittedly a very good) PR stunt
