If they fight it will be where the money is. The USA is not the hub it used to be.Daniel Jamson wrote:Geale will need to beat Martinez in America to be gain the recognition that you guys believe he deserves.
In 20 years time who will be remembered more?

Hopefully a win over Mundine will help boost his appeal and drawing power
Re: In 20 years time who will be remembered more?
With all due respect A win over Mundine will mean nothing to the world of boxing, this fight should be a non-title 10 rounder, or an Australian title fight at best.thunderfromdownunder wrote:Hopefully a win over Mundine will help boost his appeal and drawing power

I didn't mean internationally, I meant he might become a bigger draw card locally, and get more financial backingCraigyid14 wrote:With all due respect A win over Mundine will mean nothing to the world of boxing, this fight should be a non-title 10 rounder, or an Australian title fight at best.thunderfromdownunder wrote:Hopefully a win over Mundine will help boost his appeal and drawing power

AFL is a great game.Daniel Jamson wrote:I lived in Melbourne for two years.... while Geale's win in Germany did make all the major news stories, it still felt very much a back burner to that mickey mouse AFL nonsense and rugby news.
I used to go to the pub occasionally on Sunday afternoons to watch the big fights from the US... outside of the Pacquiao fights where all the Filipinos came out of the woodwork, there was very rarely anyone taking any interest. Never felt like it was a country that really had a passion for the sport.. I could be wrong... maybe Melb just isn't the hotbed for it.
Anyway, since Tszyu retired interest in boxing sort of nosedived a bit in my opinion. The Green Mundine fight was big news but Mundine went on to do fornicate all and boxing slide back to being a second tier sport

I was over in Aussie for the Green-Mundine fight in 2006 I think it was, It was big news. I watched it in a pub in Brisbane and there was lots of fights breaking out between rival supporters. You getting to any fights in Canada?

Haha fair enough, different stokes. Collingwood have been one of the better teams over the past 5 years or so. Origin is terrific as well, it's my favorite sporting event, pity about nsw sucking so much recently though. The atmosphere in Sydney and Brisbane is far, far better than what it would be in Melbourne thoughDaniel Jamson wrote:AFL is like watching pigeons fight over bread... went to the ANZAC game last year... Collingwood and Essendon.. maybe they were just two of the worst teams in the league so I never got to see any quality? Just didn't find it at all aesthetically pleasing on the eye... not very fluid.
It's really big in Melb, people always asking who I "barracked" for... in England this means to hurl abuse... in Melb they've decided it means to support a team... never sat easy with me... that and 'mateship'... if mateship is a word then I'm a f##king crocodile.
Went to an Origin game at Ethiad... good atmosphere! Enjoyed that!
Anyway, would be great if Geale did beat Mundine, and in spectacular style so the Aussie public really sat up and took notice. With the strength of the Aussie dollar it would be feasible to get Martinez over there providing they get a large gate and decent TV support/promotion.

Not just Sydney mate, we in QLD outside of the mad lions fans that migrated with the team, have no idea what the hell is going on.
However Melbourne is a city of the world and beautiful, despite thier horrible taste in Football
