That sort of thing could be used a lot more in boxing. People buy into fighters/their stories as much as their in ring activities. Look at Benn/Eubank, of course they were in great fights but people enjoyed the rivalry/back stories.johnnygreaves wrote:Obviously , I've spoken to loads of people on this. I'm a real easy going bloke so do think people have been honest and not tried to be polite . All said boxing at times seems one sided. Some non fans reckon they don't watch coz its fixed. Of course that complete shite but everyone has said they would watch a genuinely open fight or tournament. If they showed a bit of our boxing background. And history. People would tune in for sure.

Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
Christ Johnny I wish you got this excited about every fight
Truth is mate you are a lot better fighter than your records suggests and if you put this much enthusiasm into it you would be be winning a lot more and getting better pay days anyway, I think you and all Journeymen are the life blood of the sport and it would not survive without you lot. That said I have seen you fight many many times and you could have won a hell of a lot more with the right mind set.
I for one would love to watch this happen and may even chuck some money at it

Cheers taffy. Truth is mate , took so many short ones and not really been match fit. Boxed a lot of ticket sellers and close decisions never go my way. Got into the habit of just making fights easy for myself. Took a long hard look at myself and I really think I can get a few wins this year. Set out to get to my hundred , and need to keep the board from looking at me. I really don't take much clean & with extra motivation can do myself justice

This tournament should happen. And if Glyn and I don't get a good drink out of it, there's something wrong.Glyn Leach wrote:When Ian McNeilly suggested such a tournament in last month's BM he was obviously being a bit tongue in cheek, but the more I think about it the more the idea appeals.

Im definately up for it if it ever comes to fruition.if all jourymen box for is for money then i cant see how people think we'd go in to survival mode because with Prizefighter there's that magic ingredient i think boxing lacks the most.(INCENTIVE TO WIN).Believe me and i think i speak for all the others when i say this,if winning a fight means im getting a few grand more then i'm giving it 110%.Everyone always bangs on about how boxing wouldn't survive without journeymen so i dont think it would be too much to ask for one night for the lads.
P.S "Greavesy" i'd piss it anyhow so dont get too confident if it comes off lol

That is all very well, but remember why people hate Audley Harrison - because he has the tools to win but he doesn't try. If you lot all give it loads in your proposed prizefighter and become household names - do you think you will all go back to dropping 60-54s twice a month and collecting regular paypackets? That will be a thing of the past because the fans will not put up with you all coasting whilst doing the minimum against the 'flying machines'.danboxer1 wrote:Im definately up for it if it ever comes to fruition.if all jourymen box for is for money then i cant see how people think we'd go in to survival mode because with Prizefighter there's that magic ingredient i think boxing lacks the most.(INCENTIVE TO WIN).Believe me and i think i speak for all the others when i say this,if winning a fight means im getting a few grand more then i'm giving it 110%.Everyone always bangs on about how boxing wouldn't survive without journeymen so i dont think it would be too much to ask for one night for the lads.

Carlos, what you talking about mate. With this prizefighter, were in competition against boys with the same ability . Most boys we box every week are unbeaten , top amateurs, Sharp as fornicate, and sell all the tickets, any close dicision always goes against us. We try mate. Make no bones about that. They prepare for months, we get two days. Most are backed by the warrens & Malone,s. We don't get a fair shout, at least very fuckin rarely. Thorpy son, your class, but big johnny wins this thing son, ha ha.that's the spirit tho Dan , let these people know it would mean the world to us!
Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
I'd pay to see a blue collar, hard working, blood and guts, journey man eight man elimination tournament!

Well , matchroom would insist we don't take any jobs for a while before hand . But Yeh is swerve any offers I had to fight in order to win it. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity so I'd treat it as such.

Would DEFINITELY be up for this, York Hall would be packed to the rafters too I believe.
I'm a Canning Town resident too so my support and money will be on Mr Greaves for sure.
I've said on a thread before (especially after reading the article in BN) if I ever see you in Canning Town Johnny (I live close to The Princess Alex) the beers (or soda water if you're training for this Prizefighter) are on me.
Hope this happens.
