except for the part regarding my "perpetual clarity" And I must say that I feel that statement was spot on....and possibly the highlight of this thread.

However I can't imagine a day where Spinks gets up in the moring, faces Tyson, and ends the day as the winner of said fight.

Moore and Olson is the essence of distilled biblical honesty. The sort I'd like to see more of within this thread if that is possible. Good shout jaclem!

I have a dvd someone sent me of Bobo Olson going against Johnny Persol at MSG back in the '60s.

Speedy, artful Persol boxed circles around Bobo. Kind of felt sorry for Olson. He tried hard. Actually, I think the ref scored it a draw, but Persol won.

Definitely hope you will do a thread on Bobo.

Spinks lay down against Tyson? Insanity.

It's hard to countenance, I agree. but I can understand why someone might think that, judging by the way Spinks looked.

Maybe it was more of a passive lie down, rather than an active one? :-?

Spinks laid down like a scolded dog. It was painfully transparent.

YAWN.

Knockdown number one. HUGE body shot.

Knockdown number two. Big uppercut - Spink's eyes in seperate orbits as he tries to get up.

Nothing fake about it.

Go back to sleep, Keith. Let the forum know when next you need a history lesson, though (ala Foreman vs. Holmes in the 90s).

You're the one who needs the lesson if you think Spinks lay down.

While the punch didn't look like much he went down hard with his head bouncing off the canvas. I don't think you can fake the way he went down.

Spinks didn't lie down. He's a career light heavyweight who took a clean shot from a renowned heavyweight puncher on the chin. He also bounced his head off the canvas, hard. No way it was a dive.

You guys certainly know how to ruin a thread by not letting a subject die. Spinks got knocked out by Mike, he always would....can we move on?

Amen to that brother.

Anyone who thinks SPinks wins that fight even one out of ten is either Butch Lewis or a Tyson hater.

ANyway, next up.

Larry Holmes vs Ray Mercer. I think Holmes would beat him everyday of the week - and I'm talking about the Holmes that fought Mercer, not prime Larry.

I think Tua would win if Lewis didn't prepare properly and took him for granted, but I think you're right.

I also believe that Emile Griffith beat Benny Kid Paret in all those 3 fights.
Ken Norton beat Muhammad Ali all those 3 fights as well.

..elmer..thanks for the sugar ray/bobo olson listing. i did it quite a while back and this reminds me that i have a bobo olson thread planned.

charles/maxim is a good one. ezzard beat joey five times in three weight divisions...middle, light heavy and heavy. the middles are sometimes referred to as a light heavy matches, but both were middleweights the first two times.

For that matter, Liston vs. Frazier & Foreman vs. Patterson would be similarly reliable, IMO.
