Accusing Groves of faking the threat is just as bad as saying Kenny had sumthin to do with it.
It's worse.smoggy7188 wrote:Accusing Groves of faking the threat is just as bad as saying Kenny had sumthin to do with it.

The call came prior to the fight, but it has only just come to light now the fight is off. So we're dealing with criminals who phone the police to notify them that they're working on a high-profile crime that is going to take place on a specific date (that is no longer in place), at a specific venue and using a specific weapon. Did these chaps sign off the call by giving their full names and addresses?
As for The Sun, the threats pertain to a fight that is no longer taking place, so they felt it was their duty as a pillar of our fine, upstanding society to release this story as it is their civic duty to let people know that they've foiled a crime that had lost its single window of opportunity and now looks unlikely to take place unless the would be shooters manage to a) help smooth the way for Stieglitz-Groves b) get a gun over to Germany c) get past George's tripod wielding 6' 3'', 210lb somewhat deranged best mate d) manage to shoot their target from a ridiculous distance without hitting one of the other two men in the ring e) find a way of preventing Adam 'The Dark Lord' Booth from reading their thoughts and stealing their vital life force using his cosmic mind rays.
Is there any synergy between this news story, Chisora and Haye's recent loving attempt to give the sport a profile boost and the fact that The Sun is desperate to run stories that don't include the words, 'phone hacking', 'corruption', 'Wouldn't it be great if we could smear the grieving parents of this dead kid', 'Oriental trophy wife attacks foam pie wielding nutter while her mummified husband tries to remember how many wars he has started'.
No one is getting shot, stabbed or even punched with a boxing glove in this one. Groves will ditch the British belt, talk about how he is going over to Germany draped in the Union Jack to give British boxing a boost because we have all seen how Chisora single handedly dragged it through the mud while squaring up to an invisible man, who later used ESP to hurl a tripod across a room, it was spooky, and our reaction will be, 'Wow, he's challenging for a world title, that is awesome - I'm stoked. I'm going to book flights and find the world's only non-refundable hotel booking site.'
Anderson will probably fight Paul Smith in a fight that will feature some of the bluntest pre-fight talk of all time, and possibly a riot between the Scottish and Scouse, who will then fall into each other's arms and go for a beer.
Groves' first defence will be against James Obede Toney in order to make amends.

I`m not so sure about that. On short notice Anderson gave Groves all he could handle for 5 rounds and then ran out of steam in the first fight. It was also stopped a bit early for my liking, although given that Anderson was out of gas, Groves would have got to him anyway.yiddo14 wrote:Pasting? Not sure how much truth people can put into these claims about shooting in the ring etc, but something has obviously happened to scare Groves out of the fight. Most likely he knew he was looking at a pasting at the hands of Anderson.
Tough ask, perhaps, although I don't subscribe to that. But initially you said pasting and that was never happening.forcefraser wrote:I`m not so sure about that. I would say a fully fit and focused Anderson would be a VERY tough ask for Groves.

I promise you no phone call was needed- a lucky punch after a competitive opener against smith and a glorified spar against degale hasn't changed groves into the wrecking machine people make out. He's good I sung his praises no end before the Anderson fight and will do so once their situation is resolved but I'm no fan now.Final round wrote:If true the threat was obviously made to throw Groves off his game they didn't want Anderson getting done over again. Maybe it contributed to the 'injury'.
Anderson v Paul smith would be a decent scrap

I was looking forward to watching you take on Sam Webb, hope you get a chance like that again soon and you're rightfully pissed off but that right hook on Paul Smiths chin was a beautiful thing, a result of work in the gym more than luck perfectly timed and pin-point accurate, I think if your left hook in Prizefighter had been an inch or so lower he wouldn't have got up.Jeff Thomas wrote:I promise you no phone call was needed- a lucky punch after a competitive opener against smith and a glorified spar against degale hasn't changed groves into the wrecking machine people make out. Very let down as a fan and a boxer on the card. I can see why he's done it but it's no consolation to kenny who worked his ass off and spent 7-8 weeks away from his family. Frankly it's disgusting and yet another poor show from booth and co who I used to have a great deal of respect for.
Boxing sickens me at times it really does.
Thats one way of looking at it. Wouldn't it be very sad indeed if the real story went like this....Final round wrote:If true the threat was obviously made to throw Groves off his game they didn't want Anderson getting done over again. Maybe it contributed to the 'injury'.
