Didnt bruno have a rep of capitulation against known punchers?

I still David Price being a world champion.

But fair point he is going to have fight more defensive in future.

Bruno did seem to capitulate in his losses.

I think that was a stamina issue more then chin though.

You saw all of this in a fight that didn't even see the end of the 2nd round?

fair point.

I can't just jump off the bandwagon because of one freak defeat. But Price's confidence is bound to be affected. But again this can only be a good thing. This may cause him to become more cautious. Which at the top level, when you dont have the whiskers, is the only way to fight.

I do hope Price isnt one of those inbetween guys....too good for domestic, but aint good enough to be in the world title mix.

Time will tell.

Not knocking Price, but that was not a finishing punch unless the recipient has a weak chin.

What's to say its a freak defeat though Byino?

It's the first time Price has ventured in to a higher level and he got taken out ( not by much either )

What's to say it won't happen if he fights at this level again?

He wasn't exactly letting it all hang out either last night. Price was pretty cautious.

No. I had my eyes shut for 5 minutes and 17 seconds :o

Did you think Thompson was winning the fight?

Because i think that although thompson had mixed at higher class. He had one eye on retirement. And I don't think even he expected to win. Price was the outstanding favourite to win the fight. And as many have already said, the punch itself was a nothing punch. But he found David Price's self destruct button. If they were to fight again, the result would be totally different.

The first round was a feeling out round.

Very little happened in it. The commentators noted this too. (and on that note, thank goodness we weren't subjected to Jim Watt in the commentary box.)

The second round saw Price start cautiously, then try a cautious offensive, which Thompson weathered well. Indeed, he was always looking for the counterpunch, again as noted by the more insightful commentator of the 2 in the press box.

He then took the opportunity when presented directly after David came forward again.

Not trying to be argumentative, but it's a real stretch to say: "He was winning the fight and looked like he would KO Thompson soon enough."

The fight didn't even last 2 rounds, with the first round a very cautious "feeling out" session from both fighters.

Not a stretch, just my opinion on how the fight was shaping up. What the commentators say/think doesn't come into it. David was winning though it matters little now and seems pointless to mention.

David lost concentration, was in an awkward position bodywise and got punished. He'll recover and come good again from this. If he is as chinny as people think he is, surely there would be more signs in sparring. The occasion just got to Price. It might actually be a bit of a relief now that the weight of expectancy has been lifted.

Good post. Seems like a lot of people predicted this on here given their joyous, self satisfied posts after the event so it shouldn't be too difficult to muster a few links to previous topics in which they said Thompson was going to win very early.
Woe betide anyone doing that on an online boxing forum! Yeah, not many predicted Thompson - who'd had thought a fat, 41 year old who was semi-retired would knock out a future world heavyweight champion with a punch to the ear?

Had to laugh at Thompson's post fight comments about the drug testing afterwards -

"I wasn't overweight," said Thompson. "I have been heavier in plenty of other fights.

"I didn't mind them drug-testing me. All they were going to find was doughnut juice and fried chicken. How can you look at my belly and tell me I am on something?"

It was a 'nothing punch', that's the worrying thing about it! If they fought again chances are Thompson would land another 'nothing punch' and Pricey would be doing the chicken dance again.

I don't think Price will be in any rush to go in with Thompson.

Think he will try and slowly rebuild.

Although we were subjected to John Rawling trolling 'WHAT A SHOT BY THOMPSON' twice, trying to make out anyone would have been felled by it, then going all silent when the replay revealed it was nothing of the sort.

By the way, Thompson managed to take a couple of monstrous body shots flush on the flab without flinching, that's got to be impressive.

Flush on the flab without flinching. I'm the Aristotle of alliteration.

I never thought about the result to be honest, I never analysed the fight and looked through the record of Thompson. However, I knew soon as he met a good Yank he would be found out. I don't get the lucky punch angle, he threw that punch and it landed end of. That's how fights are generally won. The problem is and ive said this before we do not have quality in this country anymore, what quality we have just dodge each other and keep fighting imports. They should fight whats in the division rather than thinking pound signs, get to the top of the league then venture out and see if they have it. Its not surprising at all, Fury will go the same way next fight.
Well said that man! :TU:

Who said I did? Again - I will have to reiterate it - it was a surprise that a fat, 41 year, old, semi retired fighter KO'd a world championship prospect with a punch to the ear - however - Price was going to get beat very very soon - that dog was barking to anyone who knows anything about boxing. :TU:

That you thought he was the next coming and was going to take the reigns of the Klitsckhos - don't be sore - you have learned your lesson now! I learned my lesson back in 1984 at the age of 12 with Frank Bruno! I feel like my dad now,

Anyone who thinks Thompson needs to flush out the flab is flagrantly fibbing. He took Price's flurries and flabbergasted all of us when his flamboyant hook had Price flailing around the ring, looking flummoxed.

Price looked like the Heavyweight version of Khan in this fight, including the press conference to be honest.

Talk of Doing a better/ quicker job than Wlad was naive, and that carried through into the ring. The minute he caught Thompson with something he got excited and started to rush in with shots, *not the accurate, crisp, thought out shots seen against recent foe's* but silly and reckless.

He can come back from this, as i believe on the whole he is a far more level person than Amir, and my general opinion is that he is a smarter boxer... but my next move would be to show him Khan videos day & night for 2 weeks as a warning that even the brightest of talents can fail at the top level through naivety.

And not as a bigger puncher too as Naven Pajikic was only 16-0 with 5 knockouts on his slate going into that fight. So if Pajikic can drop him what the hell is one of the Brothers K going to do to Tyson Fury when he gets his go at one of them as both Wladimir and Vitali have knockout percentages that puts them up there with all time greats.
Fury was caught flush, knocked down and got up and then finished him off

The flaccid flab , flabbergasted me the way it flagrantly flanged away Prices flanneling fists.
The fleabite that flogged Price to the floor left me flatulent.
