Well that's what we had to find out.

Yeah. But he's still losing one sidedly.
Yeah but people were saying he was gonna get destroyed in a couple of rounds. That he was a bum and he didnt deserve being in there. Well he looked more dangerous than Macklin or Rosado ever did.
Just no. Although I thought GGG would spark him out in 3, I believe that they wanted him to get a few rounds of light sparring in.

I hope no one questions Golovkin's chin after tonight.

How's it just no? That's JUST your opinion.

Round 8: Very clear 10-9 Golovkin
Golovkin builds an early lead with numerous mediocre punches. Stevens starts closing the gap with some good blows, then Golovkin undoes the comeback with decent blows of his own, and continues to build a lead with numerous slaps. Golovkin dominates the final minute quite decisively.

The referee stops the fight after the bell rings to conclude round 8. Seemed early, as Stevens very much had all of his faculties still. The fight seemed headed for a Golovkin victory, but Stevens was still capable of ringing Golovkin's bell has he had periodically done, and of course he has one-punch power.

Triple G if he doesn't get the KO just methodically beats his opponents down into submission.

Yeah. That was the educated pick though. I thought it was going to end in the 2nd as well. We are all wrong at times. G still has showed that he is The Force to be dealt with.[/quote]

Oh I agree GGG looked very good. Have you ever seen him box as cagey as he did tonight in spurts though? He normally goes at people like a bull. Against Macklin, he had Macklin running round the ring like a headless chicken.

That last round was heavy and easily a 10-8 round for GGG.
GGG lands a mean and nasty hook to the body, he did all night.
That has to be one of the hardest punches in the sport today.

Stevens is terrible. The guy lost to Brinkley. What else did you expect?

And yet he still fared better than Macklin and Rosado did. Give him his props man.

Man, the naysayers are going to cry that G should have taken him out sooner. But he is the truth. Why you gunna go all out on one of the most dangerous punchers in the division.
Load of crap. I love GGG, but who was Stevens'' biggest knockout victim coming in? Saul Roman, a junior middleweight who had been KO'd 6 times previously? Ayala, who had been previously been KO'd by Lemieux in 1? Stevens was a C-level fighter who put up a good fight. Good for him. And good for GGG for doing his job. Don't make more of this than that it's another stay-busy fight

When did he lose to Brinkley? You don't think fighters can improve from a loss?

Sure he lasted a few rounds but he was getting carried. GGG could have had him out at any time.

That's BS. GGG was hitting him with everything and he was standing up to it. That and the fact that he was coming back with fast left hook counters which were catching GGG on the chin. Golovkin showed he can take a punch aswell as everything else tonight but he boxed a lot more cautiously because he was wary of Steven's power.

Had it 79-71 GGG (scored the 8th 10-8)

Even though GGG dominated the vast majority of the fight, going on that id pick Stevens to cause some of the other champions some problems.

Even though I only gave Stevens 1 round he stuck it out as long as he could, many others would have bailed a lot sooner.
That last round was pure mean from GGG, I'm glad Stevens corner saw sense and stopped it.

it didn't look to me like the fight was waived off until the ref asked steven's corner something after the end of the round and they answered "yes" and then it was stopped. I thought they were going to rule it RTD instead of tko

I think because GGG has gotten so much hype people are expecting perfection. Stevens had his moments, but he got dropped hard, lost nearly every round, and was battered into defeat.

People who are critical of GGG will be focusing on every moment when Stevens had just a bit of success.

It's funny you say that as it's surely indisputable that he destroyed his will? Stevens in the corner was the personification of a fighter who'd had it beaten out of him. It wasn't a spectacular KO finish, but in some respects I was more impressed by the way GGG patiently, methodically took Stevens' heart and left him and everyone surrounding him looking for an out.

a) You're exaggerating pretty egregiously. Stevens had some swelling in his left eye. If you call that "completely disfigured," then you sound pretty reliable.
b) Maybe it was the effective punches I mentioned that caused the swelling, not the mediocre punches. Ever consider that possibility? The damage Stevens sustained was probably inflicted by Golovkin's most effective punches, not his least effective punches. Does that make sense to ya? While we're at it, the damage to Curtis's face was probably inflicted by the blows to his face, not the blows to his body. I just thought I'd mention that, in case you felt like supposing otherwise.
