I'm up to about 410 RAW, but touch and go rather than competition style with a pause.
I'm hoping to hit 385-400 for my third lift in my meet on March 13. Still have 4 pounds to lose as well.
Mate i so wish u would talk in KG
Great lifting tho buddy

6 days out. I'm not really nervous at all this year. I'm dealing with some bad forearm pain that I'm having looked at on Monday. Wish me luck guys! I know I will PR my meet lifts, but I'm hoping to PR over my gym lifts too.

Good luck and hope the pains gone soon

So it turns out the forearm pain I've been having is caused by a torn muscle. He can feel the detachment point, but he says there are two to three options as the which muscle it is. He wants me in a brace, but said if I still want to compete Friday I will just have to deal with the pain.
I'm sure you can guess my decision
Wish this one arm bandit luck as I go for my third state title! Feel an awful state right now, but heck, I'm a live and still capable of throwing up some good numbers

Just won my third state title; 165 KG was the winning weight for me. Hurt like balls with my forearm, and I know I could have gotten more if I were healthy. But all in all an amazing night!!

Thanks Palooka, it's taken a good while. I copied this post from earlier in the thread.....
I've been boxing training 9yr old till 15yrs old, had a break to be an idiot and do nothing training wise till 19 got into weights and managed 98kg at 58kg body weight but I injured my sternum doing dips at 22, took 4 years off, got into climbing as it didn't hurt the sternum and gradually built up till I started the weights again 29 months ago, during that time I've had 5 months off total due to niggling injuries in my neck and shoulder. I'm feeling good just now. P4P my buddy is a lot stronger but I'm getting there or trying hard anyway.

Forearm is still nagging me a lot. Bench day today. I'm hoping to move some weights around, unlike the last two weeks

Well I've had an interesting series of events...
I'd been having some shoulder pain and went in to see a doctor. I have a big buildup of scar tissue which has been limiting my mobility. He recommended rest and some soft tissue manipulation (graston technique...very painful).
I decided I would take a little break from benching and try to heal.
And then I got home and found I had received an invitation to compete at the national championships this year
Had a quick sit down with myself and decided to compete. It's late august, so it gives me some time to heal as I continue to train.
Hit 365 (165.5 kg) today pretty easily. Then had some graston done.
And now I begin the road to nationals!

These kids at my job that go to the gym are funny. When i told this guy i do alot of pullups , he was like, "Oh,they just work lats".
I was like "No,its a compound exercise that works ALOT more than Lats. You get ALOT of bicep, forearm, delts, and even abs as well providing you do them while you're legs are in front of you while doing the reps. Its like that with Bench also. People think bench only works Chest because thats the main big bodypart its known to work so thats what you see it advertised as primarily working but obviously, Benching works Triceps BIGTIME ! The arms are what is actually lifting the weight off the posts and then off you're chest. Triceps get just as sore as chest following a heavy bench workout,at least this is the case with me.

Triceps and front delts are the un-sung heroes of bench press.
Check out the triceps on Eric Spoto, current world record holder.

Some strong lifts on here.
I wold appreciate some advice - I am a recreational trainer coming back after a layoff of a few years (injuries include herniated and torn discs and I have also had surgery on both shoulders).
I have decided to restrict my "benching" to dumb bells on a slight incline only in order to prevent further injuries, only to find that I am now getting pain in my elbows and wrists ! (probably a sign of getting old !).
What is your warm up regime ? - do you do any specific mobility drills etc. to warm up / warm down ? Also, any comments on rep numbers and set numbers etc. would be interesting.
The internet is full of people giving advice and it is difficult to get through the bullshit - any tops / links / websites etc. would be appreciated.

I've been extremely busy at work this week, but I'll throw some info at you in the next few days. Make sure to thoroughly warm up the shoulders before you do any kind of chest work. Lots of internal and external rotation with bands. I'll get you some more soon!

About 5 months ago I quit my job and felt depressed. I went a whole week eating a meal a day and lost over a stone in weight.
In that time I also found out why I couldn't lose weight in the first place. My metabolism can't process bread and chocolate. I knew about the bread before hand but the chocolate was something I was addicted to. I've since forced myself to give it up. In it's place I use malt extract.
I went to the gym for the first time in months a few days ago as my new (temp) job had me doing 60+ a week.
The hours at work are now reduced to the point where I can go to the gym.
I found out I can't lift 100kg any more. Even for 1 rep. I struggled with 90kg, but was ok with 85kg.
As I'am a vegetarian it means my diet has to be supplemented. I have been taking a powder called supergreens. It works for me and I feel healthier now than I have for a long time. But my vegan housemate has talked me into trying spirulina and chlorella powder. Not that I need much convincing these days.
The read up for spirulina claims it has on average 12 times more protein than beef!
I got to admit I feel more energetic and less fatigued after workouts.
My housemate who is training to be an MMA fighter has said his secret supplement is beta-alanine. I haven't tried this yet as he said it's best for cardiovascular exercise. As I write this I'm reading an article on it beta-alanine, which claims the force amateur boxers used when punching was increased as much as 20 times with beta-alanine. This alone is reason enough for me to try it. But the article did suggest using taurine supplements in combination with beta-alanine. Since both compete for uptake within the body.
Does anyone on here use beta alanine and can give their own verdict?
