I think you've at least half a point there mickey. Brook looks really good when he's on form; I think it's hard for him to get to the weight and maybe a fair bit of a camp is just to get the excess off. I think Bundu would be a good test and a very good scalp; I think Thurman is a very dangerous fight for Brook and Porter was a very good amateur, is undefeated and took his chance with both hands - I think he'll take some beating and I agree with some other posters that it is presumptious to expect world champions over here to defend against our favourites (in their hometowns); some of the decisions lately may have made it a touch easier to refuse.
Brook found his level in the first Carson fight. If he finds it hard to make welterweight to the extent that it affects his ability to prepare properly for fights he should move up to light-middleweight. Brook never wins a world title.
Good call Robert. :OhYes: :OhYes: :OhYes: :OhYes:
It was a close, scrappy fight. Even Ryan Rhodes thought a draw wasn't out of order. Kell landed the tidier shots and did well to last with the pace Porter was setting. The issues with his stamina have obviously been addressed since the first Carson fight. Congratulations to him and the Ingles.

You are changing horses midstream.

What's with all the horse metaphors (I've seen your comments on the other threads)? Based on Kell's performance in the first Carson fight my opinion wasn't unreasonable. Brook has done very well to become a world champion and I hope he earns enough from successful defences and unification bouts to set himself up for the rest of his life.

Horse was quite agnostic about Brook being world class, the Sheffield posse are waiting for him to eat a slice of humble pie.

I've just shut the stable door but I fear that the Horse may have already bolted.

At 27 years of age he's had 32 fights, of which 22 he's won by way of knockout, and he's currently unbeaten.

What could be a possible road map for him at the moment? Who's next? :box:

Is it a step too far to suggest he takes on Maidana (post probable loss to Mayweather)?!
Brook and porter are a level above khan.

Brook stops khan .

I think people are writing Khan off to easily recently.
Yes he had a couple of bad results and has his obvious weaknesses,
but since working with Virgil, we haven't seen him really tested and he's only been out 3 times in the past 2 years.
he'll have put a lot of work into developing his style and we've seen some real changes to amirs approach in the ring, I think if he can adapt to what he's being taught by Hunter, then Khan could surprise a few at where he really stands in that welterweight division.

I still fancy him to have the edge over Kell, as impressive as he was last night

If khan doesn't get caught, he outworks brook. Kell won that fight throwing lots of singles. Complete congrats and all that, but I wouldn't put him levels above khan. Amir would've beaten that version of porter I reckon. And I can't stand khan :OhYes:

Diaz MORE than tested him.

jeej wrote:Well done to Kell for winning, but I thought the fight was a total stinker. One thing that was particularly unimpressive was Kell's inability to judge space and timing when pursuing Porter. He'd catch Porter with a good combo that sent him back, and then jump straight onto Porter's chest, which nullified the attack - felt like he was misjudging the space between them. Given Kell was rangy in comparison, he should have judged the distance better and followed up with combos from the middle distance.

All I know from this fight is that Kell can do enough to grind a win out of a fight. I have no idea where this puts him now with regards to how far he can go. He got the belt, which is a big achievement, obviously, but I dunno.

Also, regards Porter's attacks, was it a case of; 1. Kell's hard as nails, 2. Porter's punches are weak, or 3. Porter's punches just weren't connecting?
It's probably more difficult to do it though in the actual ring during your first go at a title. :TU:
All of it's bloody difficult! Doesn't make it any less frustrating to watch. But, yeah, Kell did well considering this was a very dangerous opponent, and as you say, his first title fight etc. Just hope he can tune up and carry on improving.
