Bellew's cut was one of the worst I have ever seen, and he should have been pulled out as it could have ruined his career. He was only fighting for a trinket belt, and getting pulled out wouldn't have jeopardised him getting proper title fights.
Ward will never get a world title shot again.

If he had fought 12 rounds and won with that he would never be able to fight again anyway.

Pretty even stevens, Hall bigger and pressing and Ward clotting counters in. It looked like it'd be a good, fast paced bout. Both seemed confident, Hall a fair bit bigger and on the front foot. Ward looked capable and wasn't shy of throwing punches, he'd not come to lay down.

But he would have won a world title and he's never going to get another shot, at least give him the chance to try and knock Hall out, unlikely I know, or to protect the cut for a few rounds. Fighters have come back from worse cuts than that before.

TBH I thought Ward handled the stoppage well, apart from a few expletives after the ref waved it off he was pretty philisophical about the whole thing,i'd imagine other fighters would have been in tears after getting their dream snatched away like that, its never a good way to see a fight ended like that

At least give Ward the chance to show he can still see the punches coming and box without the cut causing major problems, or try and get through the round without taking too many to give the corner an extra minute to work on it, whatever happened the doctor should have been allowed to take a look at it.
curtis wood wrote:I agree 100% with horse, if it's a world title fight, if you can see then you can fight, ward won't ever get another chance like that, let the man fight

Enzo Macc injury was 100 times worse than Ward cut tonight, he gave it his all tonight when he could of gone home after the 1st round

Is it me getting old or have the rules changed, it used to be that when a fight was stopped to have a cut checked and the fighters corner shook their head to the ref they were pulling their fighter from the fight which is what happened. Ward's corner shook his head to the ref and then and only then the fight was stopped, wards corner called it so where's the technical draw.

Look in the rule book with the ibf state s any accidental cut in the first four round is declared as a technical draw and the corner man didn't say nothing he was asked if he could stem the bleeding he shook his head and said no was that bad of a cut to work on mate

Its the ref's decision, in making it he can take advice of either the corner or the Doctor.
I was ringside, the cut was deep and in the worst possible place for Martin.

Seen recent fights with cuts just as bad, fight wasn't stopped.

Not in the UK. If you're judging the cut from the TV footage then the cut may not have looked as bad as it wasn't bleeding profusely at he time of the stoppage, but letting that fight go on would have risked Ward's future career, it was unfortunate but the right decision. I was ringside and the wound was deep and in a terrible position.
