Re: Froch/Groves II: How you see the fight panning out

For some unexplainable reason I want Froch to win, not sure where it's come from, or why, but I've started to realise deep down I do. However, you're right, I've been watching sky's extensive (somewhat too extensive) build up and my mind had erased the fact Froch was tagged easily, and worryingly, by likes of Tony Dodson and Robin Reid.The_Don1 wrote:All this Groves fought the 'worst Carl Froch' is bollocks, he was dog poo versus Andre Dirrell too, but that doesn't count apparently.
Groves wins this on points by pot shotting, conserving energy and sticking to his boxing rather than getting over eager like he did last time. Froch is too late on in his career to change anything, he may have tactics in the early rounds but will revert to type come the mid-rounds and Groves is the superior boxer, which will tell come the judges decision.
You've just made me remember I'm glad I don't have Sky. I was unfortunate to watch that complete and utter cringeworthy sh*te they did on the Ringside programme where they had them both in. Smith and Nelson just come over as laying it on too thick and Froch - and moreso the previously popular, understated Groves (in my mind) both got given a platform to come across as unlikeable c*nts - and didn't they both take it!Wales wrote:For some unexplainable reason I want Froch to win, not sure where it's come from, or why, but I've started to realise deep down I do. I'm not tactician, but surely Carl is best spoiling and ruining the fight as a spectacle? If he tries to fight an open fight the first fight point to nothing other than a GG win.
Great, isn't it!
I have a skybox f5, so whilst I don't "have sky" as far as paying £80 a month is concerned, I have sky, in the sense of channels. I've watched the build up, which has been at best a poor mans version of the HBO promotional material. However, the armchair fans have lapped it up. The whole point of a fight like this is that it captures the imagination and interest - don't spoon feed it any more than is absolutely necessary. Some of the "set-pieces" and stunts they had going on make me want to pen a letter of complaint in retrospect. No doubt this time won't be much different.

Murray is a big boxing fan. I think that's why he was given the platform.ILikeBeer wrote:Has it already been on?G0mez wrote:I was sceptic of Murray aswell but he was actually ok.

I must confess, I didn't watch it. So may be doing it a grave disservice. But it just seemed an odd idea for a show. Let's get any random sportsmen to come in and discuss the fight.
It might just be the fact that I hate tennis. Even if I did stall for a few minutes on Eurosport the other day when Sharapova was playing.
Froch will never get near to beating Ward. He was outboxed, outpunched, outfought on the inside and outside and was basically bullied by Ward the whole fight.Final round wrote:Taken from the Daily Star
Carl Froch said: "Since losing to Andre Ward two years ago, I have considered retiring if my career didn't go win, win, win.
"The next loss, I'm retiring because I can't lose. I am not in this sport to lose. I lost to Ward and it broke my heart."
He said: "Beating Groves will set that up for a massive fight in Vegas, potentially my last fight. We'll see how it goes and I'm taking it all one fight at a time.
"Beating Groves is not if but when. I am prepared to win this fight by whatever means necessary.
"Part of me says that if I do the business against Groves, I can tick the box of that other dream fight.
"That would, of course, be Las Vegas, the fight capital. To have my name up in lights in there, headlining the bill, and to be able to tell my little boy and girl, 'That's Vegas where I headlined the bill' would be the pinnacle.
"There would then be nothing else for me to do. The one thing I have not done is fight in Las Vegas.
"I am not interested in fighting Ward again. But it's a massive fight, and potentially one that could happen in Vegas.
"I would seriously consider it. That would be the ultimate, beating Ward and going out at the top in Vegas."
Yeah, I see Froch winning this fight.SamWise72 wrote:GG isn't going to try to stop Froch again; it's all big talk. He landed the punch of his career, couldn't end it, and got beat up. Groves plays cutey pie, Froch loses some early rounds, but comes on later and stops it in relatively straightforward style.
So they did.SNG wrote:He wasn't well ahead though! Two of the cards laughably only had Groves ahead by one point.
Froch just didn't look right in the first.I buy his explanations.I expect to see a faster more sharp Froch.look at how sluggish he was with ward than how fast his defence and reflexes we're with Kessler.I see Froch stopping groves in a 8 round maulingTopGun wrote:Is Groves going to try a different game plan?
I think Froch has to change his tactics from last time doesn't he?
One thing is for sure, Groves is still faster has better movement and can land heavy shots. Groves' stamina is still a little dubious, along with his chin.
Perhaps Groves should be in and out more, use his speed and combinations and win on points. Aka David Haye vs Valuev (kind of)
Froch needs to have a much tighter guard and be dominant on the jab more.
Its such a hard one to call.
How do you see the fight panning out? I think Groves can win this and probably will but it won't be such a one sided affair this time round.
