That's good news, I think some fighters may have waited an awful lot longer (is Ricky still waiting ?) to get paid.

The channel should have some spare dosh, its overheads for August are considerably less than normal. I know its swings and roundabouts - we get Floyd vs Maidana 2 in a fortnight - but a bit more effort in trying to come up with some sort of new content at this time of year might not go amiss. In the previous 2 summers, they kept the Bunce show going, this year they've just all gone on holiday for the best part of a month, which still costs subscribers twelve quid.

On the other side, and in the interests of balance, this Sat night we have got "that was Sept 2013" repeated for the 76th time

I still wonder why they don't pick up the rights to some smaller division action. Footage of guys like Takayama, Koki Eto, Francisco Rodriguez Jr, Roman Gonzalez, Naoya Inoue, Giovanni Segura, Brian Viloria, Juan Francisco Estrada, Hernan Marquez, Carlos Cuadras and Akira Yaegashi wouldn't cost a fortune, could fill these gaps and get people to realise just how great the action is below 122lbs. Lets not pretend these guys demand big purses and investing in these lower weights does have long term potential to create interest in future bouts for guys like Paul Butler.

Agreed. I don't think they have yet to come to terms with running a 24/7 boxing channel. Their scheduling still follows the traditional boxing season. There's actually no need to just re-run old shows in the summer period and over xmas. You could create new content - that is pretty much the point of having your own TV channel.

If it was me, and my future depended upon subscribers staying loyal, I would plan ahead a bit more. You could spend all year shooting stuff to show in the quiet holiday period. Sky Sports have done that - they shot specials with Holyfield, Eubank, Benn etc to plug the summer gap. It's not as good as live action, and in many ways its a rehash, but I think they "get" the need to keep subscribers happy and some new content is better than nothing at all. Not saying BN doesn't want to keep its subscriber base happy, but the channel is run by old men set in their ways, who've done things the traditional way.

Just seems to me like the channel has shut down for the best part of a month. I suggest a new show that would be cheap to produce, and would get viewers switching on - its called "Frank spills the beans" and he gets on his soapbox for an hour and gives us a warts and all account of his time as a promoter. Nevermind writing your biography, that's what people without their own TV station do. He has the platform, use it !

They need a deal with BeIn Sport who are doing big things with their coverage of Mexican boxing

I think it's common for people to associate the lighter divisions with few knockouts and not as much potential for action and drama, because of the belief that it's largely in the heavier divisions where that happens due to the additional weight; it's as if anticipating or seeing two relatively big men fighting has a psychological impact that it doesn't in the case of smaller men. Ironically the fights in the lower divisions are generally, in my view, more brutal than those of the higher divisions, and there are loads of good knockdowns and knockouts in addition to plenty of skill.

The fighters in the lighter divisions are also less recognizable in the west and fans are more drawn by names they know, but of course a large part of those names not being as recognizable is the lack of exposure! I think showing more of the top action from the lower divisions would generate more support and demand for coverage of those divisions, which in turn makes additional coverage more likely.

Agree with every word. Give these guys a chance and their ACTION in the ring will generate more interest. Fights like Koki Eto Vs Ardin Diale (BRUTAL!) and Francisco Rodriguez Jr Vs Katsunari Takayama (AMAZING) from the last few months would have many fans automatically following all 4 guys. That's with out even mentioning the two up coming thrillers between Roman Gonzalez/Akira Yaegashi and Juan Francisco Estrada/Giovani Segura. All 4 men are great fun to watch and showing their fights, even on tape delay in a down period would fill the schedule, and give the guys exposure.

I never got the thought process between preferring the big guys to the smaller guys. The bigger guys tend to be slower, more cautious and less action packed. Sure the fights can change in the blink of an eye but many fights tend to peter out into relatively dull affairs. You don't seem to get the same level of dull action amongst the best little men who all seem to be trying to prove something.
