What makes me angriest about burglary is the stuff that never really gets talked about, it's not always just about your stuff, a lot of people (my then gf too) suffer a lot subsequently from mental health problems. She was okay eventually but she wouldn't sleep at the house for a couple of weeks, and no one should have to feel that way about their home because some cunt wants to rob your ps2.

The majority of officers are disgusted in the time restrictions they are given to deal with any one incident, and it really is true, for every 30mins of being out policing, there is hours of office work. This goes on behind the scenes.

As well as responding to incidents of crime, they are dealing with fatal RTC's where they have to deal with gruesome scenes, and they have to get themselves together and visit the family. These are people who have family themselves and have lost people.

Police officers also act on behalf of the coroner when sudden deaths are reported, that means visiting families who are terribly distressed, helping them through this time, dealing with the removal of the body (ambulance do not do this, the bodies are left in situ once life is extinct), helping the widow if they are left alone, contacting family members, undertakers, arranging the property to be boarded up if needed. Now this social aspect of it is done on a human level, not on a law level. As well as this, the officer must examine the body.... it is not a nice job. Especially when leaving this scene they can be verbally and possibly physically assaulted when making there way back to their vehicle - as they are "pigs".

They are normal people that have dedicated their lives to catching criminals, a lot get injured or killed in the line of duty. So it may happen to you once in ten years, an officer goes every day to these incidents everyday and see the anguish and distress that victims go through, and they are sympathetic, they want to catch the criminals.

The government recognise that officers cannot sit and have cups of tea with elderly vulnerable victims like in the olden days, even though an officer would want to, hence why they have invested so much in PCSO's, who do a lot of work with vulnerable people and victims of crime.

I am not saying that all officers have this mentality, like and job - the wrong people can get in. But the majority of officers I know are honest people with good morals from working class backgrounds.

I know I am going on about it, but the way society is, the pack mentality of people against the police who have no idea what it is like, is just sad.
Well said...

I know some proper toerags and even they have more respect for the job the Police do than the regular man in the street these days...
Oh OK.

So why didn't Anthony ring them then?

Because he knew, like most Mancunians - that they are not coming - at all. So, it is up to him to either do nothing or do something and it has nearly cost him his life.
Funny how quickly apprehended the little fuckers are when it all goes public. :TU:

And they won't be just charged with burglary, but with attempted murder.

You have your opinion.

I am giving you the truth, believe what you want.
What is the truth?

The truth is that there is a burglary epidemic in Manchester and there has been for the past 30 or so years.

This little scrote has been born into a world where burglary will have been seen as an occupation of medium reward and little risk. If you live in Gorton then you know it's true.

Also, Anthony did what he did. Yes fair play, if someone was in our neighbours garden, most of us on here would give it a go, we are all interested in or part of a sport which is based on macho-ism, ego and pride. A lot of us are current or ex fighters, that's why Anthony did what he did.

He ran after them as they were running away. He acted on instinct, and out of young bravado he has give it chase, that is most probably why he didn't call the police.

We hear stories of the local hard cases catching criminals, giving them a slap, being the hero.

The reality is what happened to Anthony. The people who are desperate enough to commit these crimes are not bothered about going to prison, that is why they do it, they would of been desperate to get away as they need to sell what they have stolen to get their drugs. So that desperation makes them dangerous. Anthony would have handled them one on one man to man I am 80% sure, but they are desperate. That is why the police use their protective equipment.

Was it worth it? Would you put property which is replaceable over your life or career in Ant's case.

Look at the bloke in reddish a few years back who got stabbed and killed when he heard someone stealing from his shed.

It is ideal to blame the police mate, but it isn't the police to blame, it's the lad living 3 doors down whose never had a job, or the 15 year old's that are raising kids and don't understand society and how it works. They are the ones who are breaking into the cars and houses, so they can go up to local hard lads in the boozers or audi's to buy their drugs. It is a massive circle which the police are blamed for whilst they are just playing catch up.

I know.

I am sensitive about the police mate, I apologise.

I'm trying to put across that they do care, my point was regarding the victims of crime, burglary.

It isn't just manchester that has this problem, it's just more condensed area and as we know it is a poor area, we hear about it a lot and see it a lot.

The truth is it isn't the police fault, it is the way the country is run, and certain families who live amongst us who have no morals and train their kids to go out and commit crime.

From what I understand from older coppers, the modern, young policeman is a feminized, feeble, politically correct wet fish.... More obsessed with quotas/pursuing easy targets (ie tweeters, FB posters) and pushed into finding, Inventing and prosecuting 'racism' rather than actually nailing genuine criminals who ruin people's civilised existence.

If someone reports that they have suffered racial abuse, the police have to take action pal. Trust me, no officer looks at the screen and says "Nice one, a facebook battle, easy I can't wait to solve this" it's a load of bollocks.

For every case of this you hear about, thousands of calls come in "She called me a slag lock her up", these people mostly gt words of advice to delete facebook and to grow up.

What utter crap. You think young policemen are nancy boys now do you ?
What your older coppers dont understand is the pc world we now live in and have to live by .
Young cops I know would cheerfully do a Clint on the scrotes that infest our cities .

5 year stretch. Hard time with an above average chance of ass rapage for any burglar, would soon put a stop to it.

Hardly anyone gets raped in prison, you watch too many films. I do believe there's a certain kind of lag who look down on burglars though.

You cannot blame the police , Its all to do with a 101 reasons , lack of repect , lack of discpline , generations going back 3-4 generations of unemployed ,, no pride and so used to social security they cannot be bothered getting a job , thieving will do instead . ITS GETTING WORSE AND NOT GOING TO CHANGE . Parents who blame everyone except theselves and there kids , , the list is endless

So what do you do about it , I suppose that depends on the individual .

Now myself when i was younger , i said Fack em they don't want to let me catch them , But times have changed and mob handed with weapons you take a big risk confronting them , So what i've done is a few things

1--- INSURANCE ---- INSURANCE ----INSURANCE ,, now thinking if they want it bad enough they will get it so i make sure i will be compensated ,

2--- Alarm ---- Sometimes enough to scare them off sometimes its not .

3--- Camera , Had one installed in certain parts of the house , its activated with the alarm when i go out . Hopefully either robbing me or hurting me they will be filmed doing it .

4--- Now if some asshole decides to come in at night . I have to admit , even though i'm big enough, and fit enough ,to handle a lot of unfit junkie thugs , there could be 2 or 3 of them they could have weapons , or they may well be bigger and stronger than me , so i have my best mate , living in the house with me

Zac --- My best mate , the biggest facking Rottweiler you have ever seen , and mean has fack , he's been trained to attack on command and loves to do it , If your going to have a dog like him , you must be resposible and have him trained properly by experts , .

THIS IS A MUST ,, no joking my grandkids ride on his back, but when on patrol he will sink his teeth in big time ,but i stress they must be trained by experts .

If 2-3-4 don't work , i will resort back to num 1

If we were allowed guns , well a magnum 44 or a machine gun fully loaded would be nice to have ,, but until then its unfortunate but a sign of the times that you have to resort to alarms , dogs , and cameras . This case is high profile so everyone has read about it , but there are hundreds no thousands each year hurt in there own homes that we don't read about .
