Yeah true unknown is wrong. I mean underestimated or unheralded. Just seemed like one of those times a guy who hasn't fought here before gets made automatic underdog and turns out to be a nightmare. Seems to happen sometimes even in the age of YouTube.
I was going off the odds more than anything.
Sergio Martinez and Kiko Martinez were both underdogs when they first came over here I believe. Maybe even Winky Wright was.

To be honest, I'm glad this was the outcome as all the blabber about Butler winning a second world title and breaking some record in doing so nettled me; it seems like people generally decry the proliferation of titles but to me there is still too much focus on belts relative to opposition, and I don't think Butler has beaten anyone better than EBU-level at best. Tete was overlooked but he's a classy champion who has done it the relatively hard way, consistently mixing with good opponents and fighting his title eliminator against a Mexican in Mexico, winning the title against a Japanese fighter in Japan, and now making an impressive first defense against an Englishman in England.

I'm gutted I'm a big fan of Butler and his ability but he was totally out of his depth in there last night, thankfully for his sake there can't be many fighters in the division with Tete's style

I thought Butler would win on points, BN even went for a stoppage. I put him in a few accas. Silly as I had neither seen Butler or Tete fight. But Butler was highly rated.
It's easy to be wise after the event, but alarm bells started ringing when I read in BN that he had decent form and more importantly when I read he was 5ft9 and 72 inch reach. At that weight that is some advantage.
Did anyone put money on Tete?

Butler could obviously feel the power of Tete's punches from early on, that's why he was so tentative bridging the gap from long range to short range. Butler was content to stay out and seemed content not to get hurt; the final punch was a beauty. Tete is a very well schooled and talented boxer, I hope he makes some good money.
(What's happened to Richard Commey? He was very talented as well from all accounts).

Tete is tall for his weight. Surely that height he'd easily do lightweight or above

I initially backed Butler to win by stoppage before the fight @ 4-1.
But due to his insipid start I then backed Tete for the stoppage in play around round 6 @ 9/2.
I lost a few quid but don't feel as bad.

A master class & he brought the massively confident super hyped Butler down to earth with a crash. Not often Frank gets it wrong like that ( even the usually bang on Graham Houston picked Butler, tentatively ) but Tete just never gave him a look in.
Farnell & Butler must have underestimated Tete big time, as their fight plan never got off the ground.
Paul showed big heart to never stop trying though, as even from round 2 it looked like a nightmare prospect, and he went out on his shield. He'll certainly come back a better fighter.

i knew little of tete but have to say watching them weigh in and go head to head, i had a bad feeling about it. I didn't for one minute think it was going to be a shut out before a brutal KO. I didn't put money on tete, but wish i did. It briefly went through my mind to, but not close enough to where i was kicking myself.

Yeah both fights remind me that researching an underdog proper in big fights is worthwhile if placing a bet. I though Butler and Zou points because of the hype.
Retrospect and with more thought these were live dogs.
After 1 round I thought about a bet on Ruenrong but thought nah, Zou will pick up and get a decision.
Both underdogs were long armed tough, more experienced pros and world champs. Worthy winners

Yeah well said! I doubted myself throughout most of the Zou fight to be honest, but sometimes you just get a feeling if anything.
In the end won £4.22 from a 20p accumulator
