LOOK!!!! Iran Barkley knocked Hearns down 3 times and 2 fights and beat him twice... but every time he found Tommy's chin it was a lucky shot correct?
Thing Is...Iran Barkley couldn't do that to James Toney.. Michael Nunn.. Nigel Benn.. or Sumbu Kalambay ... Hearns ducked all those fighters and Barkley fought them all...taking his 4 ass-beatings like a man ... instead of a ducking candy ass like that tall, skinny kid who couldn't hang with The Blade.

Hearns ducked Benn?
I'm *fascinated* to see your explanation for that.
Pay particular attention to the timeline.

Tommy by fairly wide decision. McCallum would have lost to Leonard, Hagler and Benitez too. His best shot would have been Duran.

Mike McCallum would have blown Tommy Hearns away in 2 rounds... He would have done a Marv Hagler job on him -- only faster... Watch McCallum rip the stomach out of monster hitter Julian Jackson, who was 29-0 -- and that will give you an idea of how long Hearns would have lasted.

I don't know what it is you ever saw out of Mike McCallum to suggest he's a better fighter than Marvin Hagler, and would have an easier time with Hearns than Hagler did, but I sure never saw it.

Yeah, cos it isn't as though Hearns was any more skillful than Julian Jackson is it? If you can hit Jackson you can hit Hearns just as easy. Lmao.

I guess you never saw Sugar Ray Leonard come off a 3-year-layoff to beat Hagler for the Middleweight Title... That set up some potentially tremendous fights: Leonard vs Michael Nunn or Mike McCallum... Leonard abandoned his Middleweight Title Belt a la Canelo -- rather then fight them.

Iran Barkley WASN'T a superfighter and he beat Hearns twice with ease... McCallum would have beaten Barkley with ease -- and Hearns even easier.
Barkley didn't beat Hearns with ease the 1st time. He caught him and won by KO, but he was getting his ass handed to him prior to that. I've never seen the 2nd fight between them.
It was a great fight that could have went either way. Nobody ever beat Hearns without a trip to the ER, save Grant when he twisted his ankle.

McCallum??? Nobody ever knocked him out or could knock him out... Julian Jackson hit him real good... James Toney hit him real good. He ate it up.
How do you square McCallums loss to Tiozzo, who was beaten by Hill, who in turn was beaten by Hearns? Surely this piece of clever BoxRec research indicates that Hearns would beat McCallum don't you think?
I brought that up earlier.....I think I can quote him "no comment".
McCallum was good...very good....but he wasn't feared or overly avoided by these guys in my estimation. It was just the way the business ball bounced.
He wasn't avoided at all. Duran skipped the mandatory against an unknown McCallum to fight Hearns in a fight everyone wanted to see. Then Hearns fought Hagler. Leonard wasn't even fighting then. Mike moved up to Middleweight after Hagler retired. If he wanted Marvin, he could have moved up, secured a mandatory and got his fight. The ducking claims are akin to saying someone ducked the chicken pox for cancer.

Yes he's my favorite fighter, but Thomas Hearns wouldn't duck a 5 foot doorway.

Hearns' attitude doesn't even need to figure, he departed 160 before Benn was relevant, its that simple

I know, just ridiculous to say about anyone. He went from 54 to 75 for the hell of it. He's beloved and underrated at the same time. Beating Nate Miller in his 40's at Cruiser was a hell of a win.

Explaining these things to Kalan is a lost cause. If you notice he doesn't even seem to grasp that fighters age and lose the ability they once had. He acts as if losses fighters suffered past their primes prove they couldn't beat fighters of that level in their prime. Even if they already did several times before.
As an example ask him about Terry Norris vs Sugar Ray Leonard or Ali vs Spinks or anything else of that matter. He'll refuse to acknowledge that Leonard or Ali were past their prime, and just go on and on about how fantastic Terry Norris was against Leonard. He's not worth arguing with.
He seems completely unable to grasp very basic concepts in Boxing.

For us Brits Benn has a similar stature, took risks and risky fight, was in exciting fights, went for the ko and took his defeats like a man when they happened. I grew up to his boxing generation really, and consider myself lucky

I loved Benn here in the states. Probably my favorite Brit fighter. If Haye could have backed it up against Wlad, alas.......

It's similar though, some fighters are divisive figures, but i don't know any boxing fan who doesn't love Benn.

His post-hagler interview was classic.
Hes got this, bemused smile on which sortof lights up when he's trying to express himself, 'nobody...nobodys ever done that to me...ive been boxing since I was eleven and nobody's done that to me...' He tries to encapsulate why hagler is so good and he struggles, he says 'hes got long hands, fast hands... Its not that he punches so hard, he just hits so...correct. I was.... I was well licked, by a master'
The combination of disbelief, admiration and honesty was fucken fantastic.
