That doesn't come as a great surprise.

But with your door-handle-post you have finally got to the crux of the matter by offering the all import words : "matched the risk/reward ratio"

My information, from a few people who worked with Mark along the way, is that he wasn't prepared to take the slightest risk unless the reward for doing so was way out of kilter high, and that is a large part of the reason why he declined a few fights along the way (not the ones you are referring to) and kept treading the easy path.

Does that come as any shock to you??? It shouldn't.

As a fan of Marks, I think the fight with Chauncy Welliver that never happened still stumps me to think why Mark turned it down to fight Troy Weida , Welliver at the time was rated by the WBO and WBC and ended up fighting Sherman Williams instead.

I think Mark should try kickboxing. Boxers normally go good with the switch. He could get a world title that way.

Maybe its just me, but from being a kid watching Tyson fight, saying I'm going to be a boxer, slogging away for 15 plus years being told you'll never make it to fighting in front of a sold out O2 area and in front of 3 million viewers at home with a chance to enter the Aussie boxing history books, Id say is a pretty good positive.

Yeah not the result or perfermonce he hoped for but you cant chase the highest of highs without risking the lowest of lows.

And talking about journey's, you see Damon Reed just took 16-0 Andrew Reeds 0? Not bad for an old fella.

As fitting as it is prophetic.

Mark has probably never been a top 100 heavyweight and in 12 years has rarely, if ever, beaten a top 100 rated heavyweight.

He had no business being in the ring with anyone half as good as Haye and the outcome illustrated that.

It's no secret de Mori was offered better fights that he turned down. It doesn't seem to suit the narrative of someone in particular to admit it though.

Funny how it's no trouble to list the 'better opponents he agreed to fight'. But the ones he chose not to have been oh so conveniently forgotten along the way

He got paid well I would imagine, so not all bad plus people know who he is now, so he should be able to capitalize on this defeat and get another good couple of pay checks? Before finally retiring to the sheep farm.

de Mori was saying prior to the Haye fight training had become a sickening chore for him and he had already seriously considered retirement. He also speculated he would retire after the Haye fight.

Assuming his artificially high ranking goes following the Haye obliteration, retirement would seem the most obvious outcome.

Taking money under false pretences is not a good look.
Conman Peter Foster goes to jail regularly for the same offence.
Usually for flogging dodgy slimming products.
Maybe Mark could be nicked for impersonating a boxer.

I think he's just pointing out that Lucas Browne, someone that is very limited - although not as limited as De Mori - himself, shouldn't be criticizing another fighter for making the Australian heavyweight division look like a joke.

Ah, I see. Although, TBF, as limited as Lucas is and Alex Leapei was, they actually, to some extent, had a few good wins on the international stage. Sadly the days of Jimmy Thunder and Kali Meehan are gone for now although I wouldn't write Brown off just yet.

I think Browne is a chance against Chagaev. But that's not because i think Browne is and outstanding fighter, it's mor e to do with how average Chagaev is, regardless of his record.

Browne isn't pretty. But he's pretty bloody effective and he has much better scalps on his record that de Mori has.
