Celtic is an ethnicity. English is a mish mash of Celts, Roman, Saxon, Danish (& Scandanavia) and now many many others.
Are you saying only white people can be English or is there some other explanation to your ridiculous statement?
If Joshua wants to call himself English, he has every right to do so.

And I did notice you swerved mine. Is Froch British or English? If you consider him British not English then that's fair enough.

Ah ha - but what if Reg grew up in a parallel community of English people who barely assimilate to the ancient Pitcairn ways and who in fact often seem to resent the culture & ways of their kind host? Seems like no one wants to answer the Froch British or English question too. If your do think Froch is British rather than English that's this discussion over. I'll get your point. But if Froch can be English despite recent foreign ancestry then why can't Joshua?
I know that Joe Calzaghe considers himself to be Welsh, even though he was born in London to an Italian father. One of you two should tweet him to let him know his new status. I'm sure he'll be well chuffed

I'm being glib, writing on a phone, only half interested in the subject. I know nothing of Froch and Calzaghe's racial makeup, but your argument is weak nontheless. English in its modern sense denotes those of the country, look at the England football team or Commonwealth Games team it's about nationality not ethnicity.reggaereggae wrote: Also, Joshua can be regarded as 'British' (which is a nationality) but he can't be 'English' (which is an ethnicity.....)

You've tried attacking my vocabulary, talking about fables & trans gender when no one else has been.
All I'm asking is if Joshua can't be English because of foreign ancestry then does that mean Froch can't be. You don't need to know much about it. Everything is there in the question.
I know you're not going to answer & will instead talk about language, Miss Merkal, fables Manx cats or attempt another childish attack on me or maybe something not relevant to any of this. And the more you evade it, the worse you look.
All the best, mate.

You say Calzaghe considers himself a Welsh man. Great. But does that London-born son of an Italian have one drop of Welsh in him? I don't know. Maybe he does. I'm not interested enough to research.
Froch, likewise, I know nothing of his ancestry, zilch. But your question to me, as I understand it, and assuming your facts are straight, is: does Carl Froch not being a full-blooded English man mean he is not a full-blooded English man?
I don't understand why you require Dr. Jim's assistance in answering this question.

What I am saying is dead simple, don't go around hyping them to the gills, especially after only 16 fights, I was like you with Frank Bruno AND Errol Christie, except I was 12 years old.![]()
In fact, you remind me of how I would have been if boxrec had been around in 1984.
Here's a tip. Forget the hype and assess a fighter on their merits, not on the white noise that comes with them. Just because a fighter is built up to the full capacity (shock horror, imagine the thought of marketing a prized asset!) doesn't mean you should automatically discredit them. Try and enjoy the boxing rather than enjoying bashing the publicity that comes with it, it might work out for you.
I don't take much notice of all the waffle that comes with boxing, never really did, even when I was writing about it, I found all the preamble stuff pretty boring.
Boxing and the hype has got really boring now, you can tell with the quality of post on this very forum how it has gone downhill all over the board. AJ has just won a quarter of a world title in his 16th bout by beating a very lacklustre opponent, if that switches on your lights, well, what can I say? I am happy it makes you happy but don't be getting all upset because others don't buy the same shite as you do.
And Riddick, you will probably never be like me, I hope you get to enjoy boxing in its present form for the rest of your days, some people just cannot see the woods for the fornicating trees.

It's funny how a bit of logic and common sense will send someone with a weak argument onto a flurry of labelling, name calling and more. These people (I'm not even sure how to label them myself - faux liberals?) get their knickers in a twist, try and present a flawed hypothesis and then start crying when you question their simplistic argument. Taansend and other leftist sheep try and simplify things to suit their agenda (in this case the extremely flawed leftist principle that wherever you are born that is your background, regardless of any other consideration.) So according to simpletons such as Taansend, a Nigerian who has deliberately flown to Ireland whilst heavily pregnant, gets deliberately induced once there and shits out a child to get residency for her and her child is just as Irish as someone born in Ireland, whose ancestors have always lived there as far as can be historically noted, who have built that nation and whose relatives are from the same background! What utter nonsense. I was born in Spain, of English descent, left after a year, but according to Taansend I am Spanish!
![]()
pathetic! I am about as Spanish as Taco Bell and would feel ridiculous claiming that...... Leftists have an agenda, decide what's 'right' regardless of facts, try to make the facts fit, when one points out the dubiousness of their argument, throw the toys out of the pram, throw facile labels such as racist around, and refuse to talk further.
I like you. Why are you lying?
"I was born in Spain, of English descent, left after a year, but according to Taansend I am Spanish!"
Please tell me where I said you were Spanish.
You also keep referring to "Leftists". I've only ever voted for the Tories. I am open minded though. I don't trust any of them.
Nothing you say is going to change my mind. I doubt that I am going to change yours. The big difference is that I will not lie to try to change opinion - whereas you already have.
Sad, but I still like you, mate. You're a funny bloke when you don't lie.

It must pain you to admit it, but boxing actually needs the louts, the laymans and layabouts like me to be 'fed this shite'. The problem is the feeling you have to 'buy the shite' like it's peer pressure or something. You can make up your own opinion without needing to feel you are being told what to do. Would the opinions of many people like you be any different if Joshua was quietly rising through the ranks under an obscure promoting outfit without much noise? Yes, they would be. They would be saying 'Have you seen this powerful and impressive heavyweight looking the business? Best kept secret in boxing! He has already beaten Dillian Whyte who looked handy himself. Seems to have the tools to handle the Pulevs and Tepers of this world and mix it with the other emerging stars of the division!'Fat Git wrote:

But instead, because a big promoter is, you know, promoting, like they have done since the beginning of the sport by the way, we get the good old sour trademark British scared of a winner mentality, and the fence-sitting sages that have 'seen it all before' and are desperate for it all to fail so they can look superior. That is a problem.
Also, I can assure you people have been moaning about the quality of posts going down since the dawn of Boxrec. Like always, there will be good posts and bad posts. And much like the hype, you can usually ignore the bad ones if you choose to
