Utterly tragic how this sport has allowed two celebrities to talk themselves into a multi million pound fight through their vocal ability.

Both are current/former world champions. They are both quite talented boxers.

Meanwhile others go about their business with self respect, dignity and pride- risking their health and well being in order to prove themselves to be the best- but are ignored.

Then they should stop being boring.

Haye was a great cruiser and an ok heavy. He's done nothing and fought nobody since 2011.
Bellew is a bog standard, unremarkable boxer with absolutely no business being at heavy- he's a fat cruiser as it is.

Boxers should be exciting in the ring, their talents and ability should sell fights-not their WWE acts- that's not exciting- that's just acting like a fool to appeal to morons.

While I agree that Haye has hardly set the world alight as a heavy to call Chisora a nobody is a bit wrong. He's a tough bloke who was in an exciting fight with Dave.

As for Bellew, I have to disagree about him being boring in the ring. I've been enjoying his fights lately. I don't care too much about their out of the ring 'beef'. That's not that important to me although it's fun to watch. And I do rate his win over Makabu.

He was also the first to stop BJ Flores although I would not be 100% surprised if that was part of a major set up & Flores got a pay off from Haye to dive

So basically, I'm not that upset, I can be cynical & I'm not going to worry too much about things. The fights will come & the fights will go & we'll enjoy some & all get older.

Nothing bellew has done in his career warrants him being PPV. Nothing Haye has done in a ring since 2011 warrants him being PPV.

They can do it all they want- they don't care about legacies or testing themselves I don't expect to be taken seriously or get any respect from boxing fans- milk the temporary adulation of ill informed fools that will be back to watching football a day later.

It will be a big win for the winner.

This fight is good for their legacies.

If David Haye wins it will be no more impressive than mark de mori.
If bellew wins then it will demonstrate then it will be David Haye in name only he has beaten as even at 50% of his former ability he would destroy that light heavyweight.

Oh hang on, I think I'm thinking of the European belt, you have to relinquish it to fight for a world title, or certainly used to have to.

I think if you win a title at a higher weight, you have to relinquish one of the titles, I think you can choose to vacate and move back down to your former weight, or relinquish it and defend your new belt.

I know BBBoC had to introduce a rule that world champions can't hold British title as well, titles were potentially going to become inactive for longer periods. Heaven knows what EBU rules are, seems to be made up as go along, some champions don't fight for ages others get stripped for a couple of months without fighting.

.. but a lot of the comments on this thread are negative.

Personally I've no axe to grind with either fighter, but I think if Haye smashed up Bellew in a couple of rounds then there will be a punter-uproar not witnessed since the A-Farce Stonebridge Adventure Playground fundraiser !

Yes, that's my biggest problem with the event, the undercard will be either virtually non existent, or literally non existent, so aside from whatever other lame entertainment is laid on, this will be a very brief affair almost certainly.

Haye basically chins most people who he holds significant advantages over physically, very quickly, it's only against men significantly bigger than him (or in the case of Thompson, way more experienced) that the fights tend to go long.

It's a poor value proposition, but I suppose if people are entertained at spending 70 quid minimum to watch someone get knocked spark out in 2 rounds, then fair enough - not my cup of tea.

Nope, I'm with you. Bellew's eyes were rolling badly when the 5 7" 12 stone 7 Stevenson clocked him, it was only the quick actions of the referee in that fight that saved him from some severe damage. As soon as Haye connects this is over, at least there is some money to be made if there are some decent odds on Haye inside two.

I saw also that Haye has been made mandatory for the WBO? Some of their best work since they moved a guy up their middleweight ratings who had been dead for 6 months.

It's the worst PPV event ever. Johnny Nelson had the nerve to say he was more excited for this crap than Joshua/Wlad. The beef is about as real as the meat in a Big Mac.

Nope, it's brutal. The main event is a foregone conclusion, Bellew looked very apprehensive against Stevenson, he'll be firmly planted on the back foot here and I cannae see it going past 3 rounds.

The worst bit is that Haye will have made a small fortune from three fights of zero significance in his comeback and have become WBO mandatory by then. He's a skilled, dangerous guy and a good watch but he's also smart enough to negotiate the fractured boxing landscape with the absolute minimum risk. Fair play but as a result he'll never truly achieve what he maybe could have
