Thanks again Freedom2013 for sharing these links, and the many others that you have so generously informed us of in the past.Freedom2013 wrote:Indeed it was.Tanzio wrote:Thanks (you too lefty). Sounds like an excellent scrap.crusader wrote:5th round

That was a Russian language interpretation. The English version sounds like they will give a rematch if the WBA belt is also at stake.Killer Blow wrote:That sucks.boxing_rocks wrote:Gassiev's promoter says that they will not give Lebedev rematch, because he removed the WBA belt from the stake.
It might not rank as THE fight of the year but that was an awesome fight. Lebedev never disappoints. He is one of the best boxers of his era. I still am in awe at the shots both absorbed last night. Gassiev is a living breathing Rockem Sockem Robot ffs. Lebedev getting up and making it through round 5 was reminiscent of Maidana getting up from that early liver shot from Khan but Khan in no way hits like the ton of bricks Gassiev his hurling.lefty wrote:Lebedev is still one of my favourite fighters despite last night's loss. He was the more skillful fighter of the two last night Gassiev was like a tank that just wouldn't stop coming forward. He's a beast. Most fighters wouldn't be able to walk through Lebedev's punches like that.
Especially when you take into account that Lebedev is 37 and Gassiev is 23!!! Lol.Tanzio wrote:It might not rank as THE fight of the year but that was an awesome fight. Lebedev never disappoints. Amazing performance by both fighters, especially Lebedev.
I think Gassiev would KO him in a rematch. There's a lot he could have done better whereas Lebedev couldn't have done much more.boxing_rocks wrote:That was a Russian language interpretation. And Lebedev is getting old, he's been in a lot of wars.Killer Blow wrote:I think Gassiev would KO him in a rematch. There's a lot he could have done better whereas Lebedev couldn't have done much more.

Yea I thought their age difference was the difference in the fight. Gassiev was able to shake off the punishment faster and push forward constantly I due to his youth. I did not score the fight round by round but thought Gassiev dominated after the 4th or 5th round. I think Lebedev was lucky to get out this fight with his health intact. Lebedev definitely a skilled operator and gritty as hell, but the younger guy was just too strong for him. I also think although Lebedev probably has a few more fights in him he should start to consider retiring.lefty wrote:Especially when you take into account that Lebedev is 37 and Gassiev is 23!!! Yeah. I'm positive that Lebedev has a broken jaw aswell. He had some pretty bad swelling on the right side of his jaw. Probably from all those left hooks he was eating! Very tough guy though.victor-romeo wrote:Yea I thought their age difference was the difference in the fight. When hit with a good punch, Gassiev had the same facial impression and was doing the same gestures as Golovkin.victor-romeo wrote:Yea I thought their age difference was the difference in the fight. I like the notion of boxers and promoters owing something to fans. That concept is not understood by boxers like Ward, Lara, Rigo, Saunders, and then they are surprised that they can't sell tickets.Рябинский Андрей @Ryabinskiy 3h3 hours ago View translation

It goes without saying that Usyk is the far superior boxer- that said, I'd like to see how he would cope with Gassiev's power. I know he's elusive but Gassiev is good enough to land something significant throughout 12 rounds. I don't see Usyk stopping Gassiev so I'd see it going 12.victor-romeo wrote:I would like to see Gassiev vs Usyk, Although I think Usyk to mobile and dynamic for Gassiev I would like to see that fight. Clear things up in my mind as who is better and could be very competitive fight.
I love the shows Ryabinsky puts on. Aside from the genuine 50-50 type bouts he tends to put on- the production is really good. That stream last night was really great quality aswell. There was no buffering whatsoever aswell which is somewhat rare for a live streamed event.boxing_rocks wrote:Ryabinsky apologized to fans via twitter for yesterday's losses of his guys:

He seems more like a physically strong grinder than a massive puncher to me, though he clearly has enough power to KTFO lower level opponents like Shimmell.ValMar wrote:Gassiev is a decent boxer with lethal power. He would have punchers chance against anyone (not only CWs, HWs too).
Saying that though- I think it would be unfair to include possibly Lebedev, when evaluating Gassiev's power; purely because Lebedev is abnormally tough. Lebedev looked more uncomfortable than usual last night aswell. There was a few rounds where it looked like Gassiev could have possibly stopped him if he put his foot on the gas pedal.crusader wrote:He seems more like a physically strong grinder than a massive puncher to me, though he clearly has enough power to KTFO lower level opponents like Shimmell.ValMar wrote:Gassiev is a decent boxer with lethal power.
