True mate but Askin was very unfussed and composed and concise in doing so. His control of distance and the ring were excellent.

I think they had a clear game plan based on Kennedys flaws and he was very confident in carrying it out.

All things considered, Kennedy is lucky Ovill retired. Ovill would have absolutely destroyed him in the first round.

Askin looked very good tonight,best i've seen him.He's a very tough man and the improvement in his punching is really showing now.

Been a long road to get hold of the title,well happy for Matty and the Jennings boys

Great win a and a superb KO for Askin, he always looked like winning after the 1st round knockdown, Kennedy was too tentative and Askin was outboxing him slightly but it was Askin's power that was too much for Kennedy, the right hand that Askin landed to finish Kennedy was always in the post

Anyone else think the standard of commentary and presenting was pretty good tonight?

I don't recall them annoying me at all, which in boxing and history on tv is rare

I'd go with that but add the caveat that on occasions Woodhall can completely misread fights.

That's how I saw it to be honest gave Rosales the 1st & 7th but nothing else.

Watched Selby last night. Made it difficult at times though Rosales was game. That fight was not a final eliminator for the WBC belt.

Just looked at the rankings there a few fighters ahead of them. Daigo Higa won the WBC flyweight belt last weekend and on my first time watching him he looks the goods. you would have to favour Higa to knock Selby out based on last night.

If you've not seen much of Higa other than his win over Hernandez worth watching his fight in Thailand and his fight with Diale (who Selby also fought) :)

fair play to selby getting the job done after that first round. for someone that doesn't like boxing it must be torture putting the work in to get to a fitness level that allows him to box like that. he is good to watch but as others have said there are too many bigger punchers in the division that will walk right through his punches once he moves up in class.

Askin - Fair play to the lad, he's been around a while and could, maybe should have won a British title by now. But persistence has paid off and he deserves it. He was a level above Kennedy and he knew it, you could tell he knew he had his number from sparring, took his time with it and got the finish eventually.

Selby - Lovely to watch, Agree only had 2 rounds to his opponent but Selby will get taken out by big punchers at the top level. Quite a revelation for him to say he doesn't even enjoy it, but I've known a few lads like that who have a real talent for something but not really the enjoyment for what they do. Shame but that's life, hope he still gets some reward out of his talent and doesn't use lack of love for it as a background excuse when he loses.

Fair play to Channel 5...they've always stuck by boxing and I quite enjoyed the show last night.

Not sure what to think of Selby......clearly heaps of special talent, did not panic when he got hit hard and early and also dealt with a big, aggressive flyweight who had more than a bit of ability himself......

...but at the same time Andrew can clearly be swarmed and taking those little timeouts could cost him dear further down the line. He's not the first fighter to say he does not love the sport but his demeanour/comments suggest that he is totally sincere in that opinion and one wonders how he would rebuild after any kind of setback.

I'd like to see more small hall shows on Channel 5. Not sure they've got the budget to make a decent fist of World Title fights, or bigger shows.

Which is why Higa vs Selby will end up in Japan. Higa seems to have a working relationship with Fuji TV who are looking likely to become the #1Japanese TV network for boxing and have the money to run with it.
