Round-By-Round - Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
Was sure he’d come in lighter for this fight - 18st 2 seems huge again.

I keep getting this feeling we'll have a Bert Cooper moment.
We won't, but it's there in my head.

Running order has just been released. Do people think the Buglioni fight and / or Yafai fight will go the distance. Trying to gauge when Taylor is going to be fighting.

I thought he looked massive in the public worked, proper body builder chest under that t shirt.
Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
I haven't seen Takem since the Parker fight, but at yesterday's weigh in he looked in super shape. Better and more defined than the Parker fight. I know that does not mean anything in real terms, but it does say he is taking it seriously.mimmy123 wrote:Takem says he is going to surprise AJ, does this mean he will be doing some Paul Daniel tricks, or wearing his wifes knickers?

joshua has the abilities to do well even if hes overly bulked. his success doesnt really tell us bulking = working good though. who knows, maybe hed have done even better if he werent so massively muscled. plus hes gaining more and more even though stamina problems already created struggles.samwbr wrote:It's working out quite well for them so far.Oiky wrote:Too much oxygen being wasted fuelling those muscles

He's literally got a perfect record as a professional.jamamb wrote:joshua has the abilities to do well even if hes overly bulked. his success doesnt really tell us bulking = working good though. who knows, maybe hed have done even better if he werent so massively muscled. plus hes gaining more and more even though stamina problems already created struggles.samwbr wrote:It's working out quite well for them so far.Oiky wrote:Too much oxygen being wasted fuelling those muscles

Yes, perfect, but he's only had 2 legitimate challengers, and twice he's been in the firing line. He's due a bad knockout accident waiting to happen. Don't think Takam will do it. Wilder might though!samwbr wrote:He's literally got a perfect record as a professional.jamamb wrote:joshua has the abilities to do well even if hes overly bulked. his success doesnt really tell us bulking = working good though. who knows, maybe hed have done even better if he werent so massively muscled. plus hes gaining more and more even though stamina problems already created struggles.samwbr wrote: It's working out quite well for them so far.

i know mate. but thats not the whole picture. beating everyone doesnt mean you dont have holes. him being undefeated doesnt mean his bulk is optimal, and it certainly doesnt mean gaining more isnt a bad thing. he does have a perfect record but he gassed very badly and was almost kod last fight because of it. he could have won much more comfortably if he had a better engine. he was very tired the first time he really put many shots together and was in major trouble just about a minute later.samwbr wrote:He's literally got a perfect record as a professional.jamamb wrote:joshua has the abilities to do well even if hes overly bulked. his success doesnt really tell us bulking = working good though. who knows, maybe hed have done even better if he werent so massively muscled. plus hes gaining more and more even though stamina problems already created struggles.samwbr wrote: It's working out quite well for them so far.
i think that creates an opportunity for opponents (esp if he gets bigger), even though most wont be able to exploit it. still the best by quite a bit but i think losing some bulk could cut back on chances of an upset.
Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
Just seen the Joshua weigh in for his first pro fight...compared to then he's massive. Even a big difference between his amateur days and that first pro weigh in.
You ve got to wonder how he's bulking up and yet seems to be getting faster. Also don't think he's got a stamina problem...its more of a chin problem. His staminas not going unless he gets rocked. Without getting rocked my moneys on him doing the 12 no problem.
He's either a complete freak of nature or some things afoot.

he became exhausted in the 5th against wlad before he really started getting srsly tagged. he stopped punching and started getting hit because he gassed.
Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
Well it's not his cock according to the Bruno v Joshua threadbbjc wrote:Just seen the Joshua weigh in......

Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
Still think people missed it...but klitchko tagged him just prior to him gassing. Not a lot noticed at the time but pretty sure Carl froch does in the commentary. Exactly the same thing happened against whyte. Both fights we,re fought at a great pace for big men ...his stamina was holding up just fine...till he gets tagged. Then he sort of shuts down.jamamb wrote:he became exhausted in the 5th against wlad before he really started getting srsly tagged. he stopped punching and started getting hit because he gassed.
Guys with stamina issues don't tend to fight a pace like Joshua set in the fifth against klitchko.

Ha ha. Well played sir
Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
guys with stamina issues can fight at that pace for short periods, they just tire bad and cant keep it up for long, exactly like the case with joshua . it wasnt at all a high pace fight till that burst and aj was so tired he took like 4 more rounds to seriously throw again. also he was quite visibly exhausted in the 5th. it would be strange if wlad hurting him made him that tired almost immediately. no doubt in my mind he gassed mainly cus of his burst.
Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
I think there were a combination of things there in fairness. He was tagged before he dropped Wlad, and when he did he seemed to think, (certainly based on a premature celebration), that it was game over. The adrenaline must have massively kicked in only for him to completely crash when Wlad refused to be beaten.jamamb wrote:guys with stamina issues can fight at that pace for short periods, they just tire bad and cant keep it up for long, exactly like the case with joshua . it wasnt at all a high pace fight till that burst and aj was so tired he took like 4 more rounds to seriously throw again. also he was quite visibly exhausted in the 5th. it would be strange if wlad hurting him made him that tired almost immediately. no doubt in my mind he gassed mainly cus of his burst.
I think he'll learn from that. The questions over his size probably won't be answered tonight given the fight will probably be over inside six, but I don't see that much of an issue. I'd obviously have more concerns if he was overweight for the Wilder fight but we don't really know what overweight is for Joshua. He evidently isn't fat.

Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
Think the AJ chin is sound enough, no wildly alarming collapses on view & surely we’d have seen em by now. And by that I mean going 10 with a heavy puncher like Wlad - sure he was hurt and caught with a bone jarring shot by a world class giant, but recovered brilliantly.
And he walked onto a big shot he didn’t see v Whyte, who ain’t got much about him, but maybe he can just hit pretty hard ..from what I’ve seen of Takam ( that’s not a lot admittedly ) he looks like he doesn’t hit hard enough to trouble AJ in the slightest.
Another demolition job I think ~ Josh KO3

Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
The Whyte shot has been brutally overrated. Joshua looked wobbly for about two seconds, recovered, didn't lose a single round convincingly and knocked his opponent out a few rounds later. Jim Watt screaming 'IT'S CRISIS MODE' doesn't mean it actually was.
Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
His stamina seemed ok in the late rounds v Wlad. He'd been caught flush with a world class shot by a huge puncher, I didn't think he was getting up tbh.

Can Takam go five rounds with AJ tonight?

Re: Anthony Joshua (c) vs. Carlos Takam - October 28th 2017
How does a fighter completely gas in the 5th only for then to comeback a few rounds later and go on to stop his opponent in the 11th?
He wasn’t gassed. He got involved, punched himself out a bit and got tagged in the process, then went in to a sort of recovery/time off mode. Regained his composure once he realised he’d taken Wlads best shot and applied the pressure when needed. He seemed to be enjoying it from rounds 7-9 weirdly, smiling and talking to Wlad. If he’d have simply gassed he’d have lost that fight.
Too heavy at 18 stone imo but that’s modern heavies I guess. Takam is a short arse relatively speaking yet he’s over 17 stone. Can be argued both are too heavy!
At 6’6 I think Joshua should be just over 17 stone. Maybe he feels more comfortable being heavier?
