As for Povetkin. He's had his day. When Price nearly knocked him out, only to have the referee step in, I figured Povetkin would not beat Parker, Joshua or Ortiz.
That was no "novice referee". See my post above and the accompanying link. He was an experienced veteran referee. Bought and paid for that's all.

The ref didn't step in to save Povetkin. The round was over. If you want to see a ref step in to to save someone - and another bent referee - watch the Wilder - Ortiz fight again.

the ref gave povetkin a count because he ruled that he wouldve gone down without the ropes there, thats a perfectly legit call. price wasnt following up anyway, watch it again, he just stands there, showing no finishing instict

btw any card for parker is a truly awful score.

As i recall the round ended so how could Price follow up? I thought Price looked better than hebhas in years, even tho it ended badly for him.

Yeah...Price has a proclivity of looking like a deer in a headlight, but as for the perfectly appropriate standing 8 count, it was the end of the round, if I'm not mistaken.

the round wasnt over as soon as price landed, there were some seconds left, but price didnt hardly even move forward at all

after the 8 count the round had ended

Clearly, but exactly a chance to bull rush the guy. I can't hold that against him. I can say he shouldn't have stopped punching, so I guess it's the almost same thing. Ok...I agree. (thought that one out as I typed)..lol!

Huh? How could Price move forward when the ref was giving povetkin the count? And then the round ended. Price did great, the very best he could.

and then next round didnt press at all

he just has no killer instinct. he gave counts to thompson and hammer too but didnt finish them. he continually shows hes got top of the line power in all his power shots (hammer down from uppercut, thompson from right, povetkin from left hook, etc), but the mentality is awful. hes terrified in there.

so i dont think the ref saved povetkin at all, even if the ref hadnt stepped in and even if the round was a minute longer, price probably wouldnt find it in himself to attack much, plus tbh i thought it looked like povetkin wasnt all that terribly hurt and maybe part of it was being off balance to start with

povetkin stumbled all the way across the ring and there were a few moments before the ref stepped in to give the count. but price just pretty much stands there in the middle of the ring well far away the whole time, instead of smelling blood its like he couldnt believe what was happening.

It did remind me of Tami Mauriello's reaction to knocking Louis across the ring! Stood there with his mouth open.

I don't recollect anything unusual like that from Price. As i recall it was all very quick and the ref then made the count, and by the time the next round started Povetkin was fine. Unfortunately the full fight doesn't seem to be available online.

Once hit, he did stumble several metres to the corner, so Price would have had to travel a significant distance to get back on top of him. Price isn't the fleetest of foot, so even if his reactions were quick enough, the referee would likely of got there first (which he did).

I was more disappointed that he didn't put the pressure on in the first minute of the next round, but he himself had to lift himself off the canvas in that round, and I'm not actually convinced that Povetkin was that hurt. Probably more off balance and stunned.

Wow. You mean the jab which failed to land 85% of the time? Joshua has a much more effective jab throughout the fight.

Excellent jab? Did a single jab even land?
