Many may loath Mayweather. But that's irrelevant.
He was the biggest PPV draw in boxing history.
Many of his fights are at or near the top when it comes to sales.
Mayweather-Pacquiao. Mayweather-McGregor. The 1-2 punch in PPV history. Box office magic.
Mayweather-Canelo. Mayweather-De La Hoya. Two other bouts that cracked the 2 million buys barrier.
So, it's hardly a matter of American boxing overcoming the Mayweather era.
It was Mayweather's presence that at least kept the sport on life support here.
Without him, it very well may flatline.
