My point is that there are different levels of great. For example, Jake LaMotta was great, but Ray Robinson was greater.

Frankly I think LaMotta is pretty overrated. His legend seems to be based on beating Ray Robinson one time and little else. How would he qualify as great in your view? Is Robert Villemain also great? Joey Giambra? Holly Mims?

If your going to argue LaMotta qualifies as great an awful lot of guys generally not regarded as great would seem to also qualify. Like Robert Villemain for example.

Were you to rank the middleweights of LaMottas era he would probably come out 7th or 8th and that's being extremely generous and giving him every benefit of the doubt.
